Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

I was amongst the crowd cheering for all who ran. It was exciting to see so many having a great time. Can't wait to see some photos of what characters were on the course.

Again, Congratulations to all!

Another interesting comment from someone on that board not injury, but sweeper related......she said she was doing a 14 minute mile in the last corral and she looked back before going up the cloverleaf to the overpass and it was a crowd of people behind her, not packed but people were there......then after she got to the top and on the bridge.......ghost town down the road, no one was there.....just alot of buses... That would freak me out!

Huh. We were in the last corral, our pace was just under 14 minutes per mile, and when we were at the top of the bridge, it looked like the crowd behind us still stretched almost all the way back to the MK parking lot. No balloon ladies or busses in sight.

THANK YOU for being part of the day! It was so motivating to see people cheering along the runners.

sorry if this was brought up and i missed it, but does anyone know when the pictures from the race will be up? last year i thought they were up the day of the race, but i haven't seen anything saying when they will be up this time.

thank you!!

It usually takes a couple of days for the photos to go up.

SaySay I was ona bus around 3:30. My DD and I had on matching headbands and tanks with red, green and yellow, and our "capes", blankets to keep warm. We were about 2/3 to 3/4 way back on bus and when traffic got slow our bus driver was trying to tell us stuff on but we could not understand a word.

DIS-OH Where did you come out? near the potta potties at the back of corral a-d(?)?

Did you have to jump over the fencing? next year I want to stay at POFQ and just walk too!

JOAN...I think we were in the bus after you. We were in the front and our driver was NOT happy about the traffic and how they route buses and cars the same direction!

Non race but disney trip related....Amy and I were watching movie it shake it celebrate it at MK after the race. She commented how Mr Incredible was really getting down on his float which stopped on the far side of the hub from where we were standing. After the street party as the parade was leaving........we noticed he was not on his float and didn't see him, I will forever wonder where he went. hehe

I heard on another board from someone who stayed with a runner somewhere around the Pirates a lady fell and broke her shoulder - they were in Corral A....I am pretty sure we saw her when we ran by. One of the ladies on that board stayed with the poor princess for a while...and she was ok that she had tripped and broken her shoulder.

Good to hear she's OK. Of course I thought the worst and was really hoping I was wrong and it wasn't life threatening.

It was Sherry Feathers - she posted this on the FB RunDisney page: (hope it's okay to share, I know there were several people that saw her and were worried about her!)

was so ready to defend my first place title from 2009 ...my nickname is pitter patter...but it now is changed to pItter splatter...I tripped only two miles in ... awesome medical help, nice ride in the ambulance..sweet celebraion emergency room...have a fractured shoulder/humerius bone, checked the disney results...darn, i would have placed if i finished...oh well....SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!!!!

Just looked on the Brightroom photography web site and there is a form you can fill out so they will email you when your pictures are up (which they say will be "soon" - the most recent event they have posted is 5 days ago).

Yeah I noticed they didn't have the Princess listed which is kind of freaking me out. Normally they at least have the event listed even if they don't have the photos yet.

yay! First half marathon is in the books :goodvibes I am so sore today, but I have been stretching, rolling, and tried a bath with epsom salts. It's amazing how I have to strategically plan going down the stairs :lmao:

I had a great time on the course, but could've done without the porta-potties on the narrow lane. If runDisney feel they're needed, why not face them away from the lane so the lines don't run into the lane? I thought the weather was absolutely perfect too. Lucked out and the rain stayed over Daytona instead.

Anybody have an update about the runner who was down around mile 2.5? I was hoping it was just a collision, but heard it was medical. I really hope she's OK.

My friend was there with the fALLen runner. I was told she broke her collar bone, near shock. Disney ambulance arrived 20 minutes later. Too long of wait in my opinion.

No need to freak out. They exist. When I went on to set up a reminder for myself yesterday, I was surprised to see them already up and over 100,000 photos. I put in my bib number, and 13 of my pictures were already up! I was able to quickly save them, but by the time I posted they were up on the facebook group and people checked, they had been hidden again. Now they are even more hidden as you can't even see that there are 100,000+ photos, just a coming soon. I'll see if I can post a picture from it so you can see what it looks like..

Here is a very small one. It seems I can do either big or small. This is the castle picture, obviously.

Hi princesses! What a great race! Although I have to say when I saw my chip time (2:55) I wanted to bawl. Then again, as I went through the race in my mind, I realized that I had stopped for about 5 minutes each at 2 bathroom breaks (TTC and porta potties....lines at both, but I drank a ton!) and probably another 5 or so minutes between a couple of character stops. So subtracting that gives me around 2:40, which is a bit better than I hoped for. I did feel like I finished strong, that mid-race Tylenol really helped a lot, although my feet started killing me a few minutes after I stopped after crossing the finish line! I did laugh that it was probably the fastest I've ever gone from the MK to Epcot - your two feet are faster than Disney transportation!

Sunday afternoon my feet and ankles hurt a lot. Yesterday those felt fine but I had some muscle soreness, and today I just feel a few tight spots in my quads, so I'm hoping I can take a gentle run tomorrow.

Lessons learned: Don't stop at the potties just after the bag check tents. I proably stood in line for close to 30 minutes! Remember to take the banana and all the other treats at the finish line. I only got the box, I was so out of it, and as we walked back to Epcot my husband wondered why I hadn't gotten a banana! Oh, and buy the white jacket at the Expo. I didn't, then wished I had, and DH tried to surprise me with it at the finish line but it was sold out. Oh well.

If I do it again, I'd really like to do it with a friend or DH. I was kind of lonely although I did chat with a couple of people on the bus and walking to the start. It would have been great to experience the whole thing with a friend.

Now I'm wondering what's next! :lmao: I'm feeling sad today that it's all over. On the bright side, I'll be back in Disney World in about 17 days for spring break with the kiddos.

Oh, and does anyone know about the princess who was on the ground screaming at the finish line with medical people around her? It looked scary. :guilty:

DIS-OH........
Did you have to jump over the fencing? next year I want to stay at POFQ and just walk too!

No fence jumping required!

After we crossed the bridge, we took a right turn and walked towards the start line. When we reached the start line, we just walked across the road and then walked down the corral entrance side. There were plenty of officials/volunteers that were pointing to where we should go.

There was a steady stream of walkers coming over the bridge...we even saw some walking up the road from Old Key West. Also saw a large group in the parking lot of POFQ...suspect they drove there and parked just for the race as they were parked in the section closest to Bonnet Creek Parkway and furthest from the resort buildings.

I'm so sad that it's over and I can't wait till next year. My experience this year was 100 times better than last year when I struggled with everything from a broken toe to a head cold to 24 hours with no sleep. I almost didnt sign up this year but thanks to a pesky sister in law, I decided it couldn't be any worse than last year.
I finished 16 minutes faster than last year. It was so worth the days of training In the heat and the cold. Disney makes this race so fun and special. The whole atmosphere is just great. Even when I had to wait over an hour in the rain for my bus to get back to the All Star Sports.
Walt would be proud.

I am loving reading all these posts - wish I could have gone! But planning on next year. What did you guys get in your goodie bag? I haven't seen any pictures of the swag! Would love to see some pictures of the expo as well.

O_O How did you find that out? Whenever I go on brightroom not only is the race still not listed (had to finally search it before it popped up) but it says the photos aren't posted yet.

Nothing in the bag. They had a vertical bag online to signup and win stuff. They had quite a few giveaways at the expo. Best of all four years. Luna bars, apple slice, little hand crank flashlight, two rice stations to spin for stuff, I won rice at both, free yogurt cup...
