women in your 30s or older - clothing question

Are you kidding with these comments?? You have never seen this person in that clothing, you dont know their body type, yet here you are judging and scolding? Amazing!

I'm not kidding. :confused3 I personally believe it doesn't look good.

Are you feeling defensive because that's what you wear?

I don't understand why women don't wear appropriate clothing? It doesn't make you look any younger to be wearing these things.

I was wondering the same thing! How can you even tell where the jeans came from, unless they had an obvious tag like Levi's or something. Honestly! Where should someone over 40 shop??? Something outrageous like a $500 pair of jeans? Or even walmart??? Jeez. Not too old at all in my opinion!!
What is not appropriate? How would you even know where they came from short of looking at the tag?

Really?? youre assuming im getting defensive because thats what I wear? FTR, no, I dont shop at a lot of those stores anymore. I wear dress pants at work. Not jeans. But i have friends who do shop there. And they look great! I just think your comments are harsh.

"Stuff" like what? Jeans? Shirts? The outfits that many of us posted seem perfectly appropriate.

I'm thinking the people who don't have a VALID reason as to why the clothes are inappropriate do have a reason..... They don't look good in them. That has to be why...I mean, otherwise what's the problem with good fitting jeans no matter where they are from?

It's cringeworthy when a mom and daughter dress alike. It's not attractive when 40 year old women wear stuff like that. It clearly isn't made for them.

I never said I dress as a twin to my teenager..:rotfl2:

But your post reinforced what my point was.. I am 44, and am confident in my clothing choices.. I would never bare anything, NOBODY needs to see that (myself included)..

I would hate to show you my shoes.. I am more a shoe person than anything else, and I really buy them and wear them for myself. Same goes for my clothing..

We have a winner!!! I didn't want to be the one to say it. :lmao:

I just have to say as a almost 49yo woman, I am going to wear what I want.;) Right now it is a lot of Wal Mart Yoga Pants, tops, and outlet Under Armor. :rotfl: I am exercising and getting in shape.

I would LOVE to shop White House/Black Market, Talbot's, and all the other high ends shops but that is just not going to happen at the moment at least not until I lose 15lbs.

I do like NY and Company and Dress Barn for getting some clothing.

Bottom line, I could give 2 hoots what anyone wears.

As a 46-year-old man, I disagree. There is nothing ridiculous about the way Scoutie (for example) is dressed. And I find women in their 40's who dress like that about 1,000X more interesting than ones who dress like little old ladies.

Now, obviously there are some outfits that only look good on kids. But, those stores sell a LOT of clothing that a confident 40-something can totally pull off :thumbsup2

Ugh! A 49 year old woman wearing yoga pants?!?!?!? HOW INAPPROPRIATE!

***this is sarcasm.

This is it... It really only matter to yourself, or so it should.. IMHO..

I am on disability, so practically live in lululemon clothing, and jeans..

To me it is a confidence issue.. If you are confident and comfortable, then rock it!

If they think they look great, kudos to them.

It isn't because I don't look good in them. I choose not to wear them. I can walk into Express and Banana Republic and find many cute things. I haven't set foot in AE or A&F in over 3 years.

I think your getting caught up on the "old" part. You aren't old!! But, there are stores out there that make clothing that can give you the look that you are going for. You just have to look for it.

BTW, I'm not suggesting you all go out and buy "mom" jeans. ;)

None of these answers you've provided have said why you insist that's inappropriate. It just says you prefer the styles the other stores have.

SO you haven't set foot in the places you are dissing for more than three years but have a strong opinion on whether or not their jeans are too young for anyone over the age of 25? Figures.

Yes. Exactly. Dressing like an old lady will make you look like, well, an old lady! :rotfl:

Mom jeans! :lmao: Now thats cringeworthy! I just pictured Jessica Simpson in her famous mom jeans.

And btw, im not 40 yet, so youre right, im not old. :rotfl2: :teeth:

I'd really love to see some examples of what some people find so inappropriate in these stores for anyone over 30. :confused3

Because the posts are kind of making it sound like you're picturing this:

When what we're discussing is things like this:

I just don't get it. Clothes are clothes. :confused3 We're not talking about minidresses covered in rainbows and unicorns.

They haven't changed one bit.
