Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

The 10K was awesome (although super humid and boring first 3 miles) and the 1/2 was okay. I had a B bib but started back in N with my mom and think that had a lot to do with the difference in experiences. We struggled with the congestion and although I didn't see any really egregious race etiquette, I was behind a group of girls getting their GSC medals actually laughing about how they had to shove people out of their way in places. I didn't say anything, but it was pretty disgusting.

I am happy with the experience, but also think I am one-and-done on the Princess. I'm proud to have finished it with my mom, will C2C at the Dumbo Double Dare, and then see if it's time for a runDisney break. Congrats to all the other finishers!

That is awful that those people were saying that. However, for some reason I just feel the need to defend the GSC people as a group. I know you weren't making a sweeping judgment of all of us, but in case anyone read it tht way. Not all of us were not taking the races seriously or not all of us are rude. Even though I had to walk some of the races this weekend, it wasn't because I was going for my GSC. I had all intentions of running a normal pace for me for both races, but with the humidity I slowed down intentionally, as is wise, and with my knee hurting so much I had to take walk breaks. So even though I had a GSC bib on, please don't think that I thought myself superior in any way or like I wasn't trying my best. I think that anyone who completed, or even attempted their own race this weekend, no matter the distance, is a champion! I have been at the starting point of learning to run. I literally was hurt so badly 5 years ago that I didn't know if I would walk again. So no matter what distance, I'm so proud of my fellow princesses for getting out there this weekend! Remember its not just about the destination, running is a lot about the journey too. Try to brush off the rude people (there are rude people everywhere not just at races) and try not to let that ruin your memories of today.

I hope everyone has a good rest of their trip, and safe travels home!

Congratulations everyone! My wife and I had a great time yesterday and we both finished. Because we have two little ones we actually only got the chance to practice together once, so we discovered about a half mile in that our styles and paces are verrrry different. But hey, it all worked out and we didn't take pace too seriously.

Is it just me or were the lines for characters much longer than in the past? We were only able to stop for two pictures (Atta and Sofia) because we knew the long lines would cost us too much time.

Does anyone know the name and backstory on the princess (I assume) at mile 12 inside Epcot? She was wearing a pink dress and had a microphone, cracking jokes.

I had a blast at the 10k!!! I can't wait to do the ToT 10 miler and I am even thinking of going bold and signing up for wine and dine. Eek!!!

I was in corral D for the 10k. The first half mile or so I was able to jog, but did move on the grass a bit. I never felt overly crowded, but there was still a consistent amount of people throughout the course. I did run into a little trouble getting around people but I don't think it was intentional. Speaking personally I had a lot of trouble moving from left to right as a run/walker because there was just a ton of people. Sometimes I had the opportunity to stop on the left or run on the right and I took it. I tried to move out of the way as soon as I could. I didn't encounter anyone rude, but I am pretty sure I hit several people because they got a little too close to my arm swing. There was usually plenty of room to pass, so that was really odd. Overall I had a blast. The voluntEars were amazing, and I loved that the theme in the race retreat was Alice in wonderland since she is my favorite. I can't wait for my next run. :)

When will photos be available for viewing? And where will they be? Will we get an email announcement?
If you go to marathonfoto.com you can enter your name and the race and there will be some photos. Don't worry if you only see a few and think there should be more--it will sometimes take a few days for them to post them all. :)

Sounds like you caught the Disney Running Bug!! Go for it!! I told my hubby last night I was through and don't talk to me. Some food and a good nights rest, he was like "you are already planning for the Glass Slipper next year". I grinned and said YES!!!:rotfl2:

Hahaha!! I was initially going to make PHM 2015 my first half, but so many people rave about wine and dine so I figured why not. :)

I am a GSC finisher and I did not take it lightly. I did 3 training runs starting in Jan. that was a 5k, 10k and 12 miler, back to back to back...I did that every other week taking me into Feb. I also continued my other running and cross training. I was actually a bit slower this weekend than my training runs. Funny thing...my 10k split on Sunday was 2 minutes faster than my 10k on Saturday :confused3

I think it is a shame that people don't put enough effort into training and it effects others. I traveled alone this weekend and talked to a lot of ladies that were trained to run but it was their first half and no corral placement. Some didn't even know you could use a 10k for placement. They were placed far back. Did anyone notice they said 250000 runner but results list less than 20000?

Soap Box...we need to think of others and how our actions effect them. I am no way perfect (except for princess) and I screw up all the time but I know I am always reminding myself to put others first.

Wow - great weekend!!! This was my first half marathon and first runDisney event at WDW. Did the 10K at DL last year. I absolutely loved everything about the WDW runDisney events, except for the weather, which they certainly can't control!

The weekend started earlier than expected due to weather conditions at home. We received a weather advisory from Southwest on Wednesday that our Thursday flight may be cancelled, and four hours later, I was on the plane with my three boys! Fortunately, we had already packed quite a bit, and it was easy to get a room at POR-Riverside with the AP discount for Wednesday night, change Magical Express and make dining reservations and FP+ for our bonus time at DHS Thursday morning.

We transferred to BWI on Thursday morning. We booked standard CL at BWI, and I requested a boardwalk view. No boardwalk view available . . . but BWI upgraded us to a 2-bedroom suite!!! It was perfect - the space was wonderful and based on the earlier reports here regarding the boardwalk view, our garden view definitely worked out for the best. (My husband joined us on the last night, and he said he prefers garden.)

As for the races . . .

Cinderella Family 5K - we dressed as Beast, Belle, Lumiere and Cogsworth - had a ton of fun! What a fun course, great organization and great energy. We couldn't believe how easy it was to get around using Disney transportation and we never felt lost. And everything moved so quickly that we didn't have all that confused down time that we experienced at DL last year. Loved it!

Kids' Races - another great event! Again, well organized and not too crowded. Absolutely loved the entertainment for the kids. Our youngest son was in the 400 meter and he enjoyed all the music, Simon Says games, etc. Always something going on for the kids in the corrals and we had a great time. Again, huge difference from our experience at the DL kids' races, and a definite repeat. He wants to do the 1-mile in January.

PHM - Wow! Really glad I purchased the race retreat because this was my first half marathon, and because I was on my own. I'm not sure I would purchase it again now that I'm more familiar with the WDW runDisney events, but it was perfect for this race. Also think the shirts are perfect - best race shirt I've ever received. Not too flashy and a good fit - something I'll actually wear! The actual race was far more difficult than I expected, due to the humidity - I trained at a 8:20 pace and my race pace was in the high 8's. Still came in at 1:57, but felt like I stayed safe throughout. Loved Corral C!!! I was at the front of Corral C and it was a good spot for me. So much space, never crowded and encountered only polite runners. Apologies for the smallest bumps, and "to your lefts" every time. I couldn't believe how uncrowded it was in that corral. I ran through the castle all by myself - seriously, there aren't any other runners in my photos. As for MK, I'm sort of different because I've always been an Epcot girl and thought running up Main Street and through the castle would be fun, but not amazing. I was wrong - it was amazing!!! I didn't feel the best given the weather conditions and the fact that I've been training on a treadmill at the gym since early January - but I still loved the race.

Next time: I'll try the full marathon, and I'll expect to slow my pace for the weather. I'll also stay one more night after the race so that I don't have to get on the plane the same day. By the time I arrived home, I had been up for a full 24 hours - too much after running 13.1!

P.S. Loved Magic Bands and FP+. We're usually at rope drop, but not this time - too many runDisney events. FP+ made it possible for us to run, get to the park on our own time, ride a few favorites and head back to the resort for break/swim time. Definitely makes it possible to combine park time with run time and down time!

Totally agree about how well FP+ worked with this weekend. I really didn't feel like spending as much time in the parks as I usually do-- and I'll be back in 5 weeks with my daughter and GDG anyway. I changed my ride times more than once when I realized that I wasn't going to or didn't want to get to the park at a certain time or stay so late. Worked great.

Phew! I appreciate your post! I knew it was safe to say how much we loved magic bands and FP+ here!! :)

Home.
Can't believe photos are already up.
Uploaded run data..looks like a nightmare. I was all over the place with pace. Sometimes I know why, for example stopping for a character, but it looks like a crazy zig sag line on a chart. Don't think I have ever been that inconsistent. I think so of that is due to all TM running and no outdoor runs.
I am so glad I did all three races, but don't think I will do it again. I will stick to the half. The Princess was my first half ever and I haven't missed one yet. It is also a good time of year for me as DH is very busy with high school basketball and it gives me a little extra push to keep exercising through winter. I think I will just have to suck it up and do some runs outside for next year…hope it is not as cold as this year.

Pixarmom :worship::worship::worship: on the sub 2 hour.

I'm quite sad about the pictures. I have one from the 10k and one from the half. That's all. A few more from the 5k. Because I was so worried about the time I didn't stop for any pictures anywhere. I can't believe that I only have one from the Half; I was really hoping for at least one decent one to buy and frame. If I ever do this again, I have to learn to play to the cameras, I guess. I don't even have finish line pictures-- how does that happen?

I'm sure they are not all posted yet--it's only been a few days! After Tinkerbell, it was at least a week until "all" my photos were posted. I put "all" in quotes because there are still many that didn't make it up (and oddly enough, some of the group photos I took with my sisters in law, only got on their picture site and not on mine, even though my bib number is clearly visible).
But yeah, I wouldn't worry about not too many showing up yet...

keep checking, I found for the WDW half last month that more photos were added over the course of a week or so:thumbsup2

I did get the email-- but will cross my fingers that at least a few more show up. I was photo bombed several times by people leaning in front of me in front of photographers--maybe I just never showed up.:(

Ok, yeah the photo bombing was annoying!!! I hope you get more photos added soon especially a photo line finish. My first princess the look I had on my face crossing the finish line has always been my favorite race photo.
