Body Odor....Old People Odor...

Isn't the OP the one who once threw an outdoor party where people went to the bathroom in a bucket?

Yup!

It is bad that people can't show a little empathy. There is clearly some reason why this man was unkept. I don't know anyone that would purposely have a bad odor.

As a nurse that works exclusively with the Medicare population this story makes me sad. Many of my pts have no family support and many have varying levels of dementia. If it was as severe as you report it's likely that APS needed to check in on him.

It disgusts me how this country does so little for its senior citizens that have worked their lives and paid into the system. If they don't qualify for medicaid (have to bring in less than 937$ a month!) they often have to choose which of their px to refill. That should not happen here!

That is truly sad. But very true. I work in healthcare and see it a lot.

I've smelled rotting elephant in the sun in Africa and I can not imagine that he smelled any worse than that. We actually stopped for a lecture about why the carcass was left instead of cleaned by the hyenas and vultures. You seem kinda skittish OP; going outside to be sick and still feeling sick an hour later...pretty dramatic. The guy is a human being and deserves to be treated with respect.

This is sad on so many levels. I'm sad for the OP and sad for the older gentleman. I would wish that if I ever see someone like him in a similar situation, I have the presence of mind to do what another poster suggested and request a wellness check by the police. And I also wish that we all double check that our empathy gene is tuned up and running!

Awww, poor thing. He probably had no idea. I agree with PP's who said that the police should've been called. Sounds like the poor guy needed some help.

Well thank heavens it wasn't a stinky, pregnant 15 year old because that would have been much, much worse!

Op maybe he just lost his wife and doesn't care if he smells?

Next time maybe you should smile and talk to people that look or smell bad.

Gee, sounds like you were lucky to escape with your life:sad2:

It appears as if you're either looking for a reaction or have zero compassion, empathy or feeling for your fellow man. I hope it's the former.

OP, I hope for the rest of your days on this earth, you have someone who is able and willing to care for your every need. And if you don't, I hope someone looks upon you with compassion instead of disdain. You never know what the future holds and one day you just might be "that stinky old person" while someone makes fun of you from behind a computer screen.

:( I work as a speech language pathologist with this population. He may have been depressed, lost his sense of smell, have some form of dementia, not have the mobility to get in the shower right, not be able to afford hot water . . . so many reasons he could have been dirty. Makes me sad that what I consider "the greatest generation" (LOVE my WWII era vets) doesn't always get the care they need.

There, but by the grace of God, go I.

DH an I went grocery shopping this afternoon there was an old man in store that was very stinky in desperate need of a shower an some clean clothes. DH an I passed him once, then the old man caught up with us I had to leave the area because I had to go outside an be sick.

DH decides lets kill some time read the ad again go back see if we missed anything trying to let the old man an his body odor get way ahead of us. NO such luck every where we went in the store there was the stinky old man.

We been home an hour an still feeling ill. We did notice there was no crowd around the stinky old man NO one could stand to be within 20 feet of him.

My own grandfather only bathed and changed clothes once a week had no a/c an in the summer could get pretty stinky. Mom did his laundry for years an often would sit his laundry outside in the summer.

This old man in the store made my grandfather an his summer time laundry smell like the best perfume ever.

I feel sorry for the cashier who had to ring up this old mans order as they did not have the option the rest of us in store had of running away.

You talk about going outside to be sick and feeling sick an hour later. Your post makes ME sick. As a nurse working with geriatric population I feel blessed and honored to be able to contribute to the lives of so many who have been through so much in their lifetime. Keep in mind what these people have seen and lived through. Show some humanity, as in act like a human being!!! p.s. OP I'll be feeling sick about YOU and your post for much longer than an hour.
