Having it delivered to the room is the easiest option. Yacht & Beach Club's pastry team does a great job. Just know that they can't do fresh strawberry filling (like, with chunks in it) in mini cakes, only strawberry-flavored filling.

Ok so a bit of an update. I heard back from Pat and the reason for the two tier mini being $70 is because of the design I want on it and the writing/drawing on the plate. It frustrating that the mini cake is costing more than the 6inch I'm ordering at the contemporary for my DD birthday but I will pay as I really want a mini cake. Just wish they would do red velvet but she is being firm on only vanilla or chocolate.

I will post pictures with a review when we get back.

I want to really thank everyone on the thread, especially Lurkyloo for all of the help and advice I've needed over these 2 cakes I'm ordering

Thank you

Andrea

Hello All,
I've read all the info on the first few pages and think I understand but just want to be sure!
We are going to be having dinner at Be Our Guest in September and I would like to have a cake for dessert.... in order to this I contact the magic kingdom cake hotline correct? They will give me the options as far flavors and fillings? hoping to do a 6" buttercream cake like this: Ours will just be one layer and I'll give them some creative freedom but my little one loves pink, purple, and rapunzel!

Cute cake! If you want flowers on it like that you'll need to have fondant over the buttercream. Also, you'll have to do some back and forth with the MK cake hotline first - they'll start by telling you they only have 2 design options, and then you can send photos and tell them you want a 6-inch version of that. You'll also need top provide your own figure for the cake.

Just wanted to thank everyone for all the info on this thread. I just started working with Chef Amanda at AKL on a cake for hubby's 40th birthday dinner at Jiko next month. He had a lovely cake from Yvonne at Yacht & Beach club a few years ago & I'm hoping for something equally as good.

I sent Amanda the following inspiration pic

She sent me back 2 pics of Donald theme cakes (Hubby's favorite character) that she said they did recently.

I am thinking of a combo of the 2...no white chocolate Donald as that was on the cake I got previously. Hoping she can do something in smooth buttercream versus fondant....we'll see.

I'll report back on cost & final result.

Thank you all again:

Need some advice - as I mentioned a few posts back I am working on a Tinker Bell cake to be delivered to POR. The last 2 years I have had sheet cakes - this year I need to feed less people (around 25) so I was thinking of doing something a little different.

I heard back and I have 2 options - I can do the sheet cake for same budget as last 2 years $150-$160ish - which means a great cake - but was hoping to shake it up a bit :-) Or I can do a stacked cake - a 10" and a 6" but the price would be $225.

That seems like a lot more to spend to shake it up a bit. But I really would love to see something different. While money is important - it is not a main driver - but $65 more - am I crazy for even thinking about?

Welllll... I'm probably the wrong person to ask because I am crazy for Disney cake and happily buy minicakes at prices that would get me 8-inch cakes or larger anywhere in the real world! Also, in the Disney wedding cake world, $225 is a GREAT price for a two-tier cake. And I can tell you that cake will feed way more than 25 people, which maybe is not a great selling point because, I guess, why not buy a smaller cake in that case? BUT, it will look cool! :teeth:

Yes - we went back thru guests and could be as many as 28-30. And about 12 of them will be kids. I would gladly pay $225 for a wedding cake - but this is a 5 yr old bday party! lol And she will also be having an Ariel cake at CRT on her actual bday. But I am def leaning the way of the tiered cake!! That would be great!!

Just in time to resuscitate this thread.... here are photos of an Incredibles cake my cousin and his wife had at their 32nd anniversary party at Epcot.

  • Price: $195

  • Date Received: 3/4/2015

  • Location: Private IllumiNations dessert party at Epcot

  • Cake info: 10-inch red velvet cake with buttercream frosting. They basically just told Epcot's pastry chef they loved The Incredibles and asked him to come up with something. Their planner ordered an Edna Mode toy from Hallmark and gave it to the pastry chef to put on the cake. The light-up elements were the chef's idea.

I know this is not exactly what you are asking but I'll throw a curve ball at you. Look at " Its Tasty Too!" Her cakes are amazing and she did a "Frozen" themed two tier (fed 20 and we had 1/2 cake left) last year for me that was $50 and it was beautiful and delicious. Our server @ O'hana even said we didn't make this did we? ..it's too pretty! She does charge a delivery fee of $30 but still $80 vs $225! I can think of a million other things to do with ~$150 @ WDW besides a cake.

hmmm - so this does throw a curve ball...I think I will call Monday...I do love a Disney cake - but that is a large difference!! I googled and her cakes look delish! Thanks for the info.

She's very easy to work with. I can VERY highly recommend the chocolate cake with Reese's Cup filling. That's what we had this year. Last year my DD chose birthday cake with a layer of cookies and cream and a layer of fudge. It was good but a bit too sweet for me (I don't like sweet icing though) However all the kids loved it. I've also read some great reviews of her almond cake. If you have any other questions please let me know.

Has anyone here have recent experiences with having a cake at Akershus? For the trip I'm planning with my best friend I'd like to surprise her with cake on our last evening there. We will be celebrating her birthday, but we are on a budget. Not anything fancy, just something fun to end our trip with.

As my friend's favorite movie is Sleeping Beauty, I would love to have the cake look like her messed up dress on the outside, but have 2 flavors (something basic like half vanilla, half chocolate) on the inside. It's just the two of us, any ideas what I would need to budget?

TIA!

Even for a 6-inch cake, I think Epcot will charge you at least $100 for that design, because it will have to be executed in fondant. But the only way to know for sure is to talk with the food and beverage department contact and get a quote. Tell her what your budget is and see if the pastry chef can work within that to get the look you want.

Did you have it delivered to/served at O'Hana?

Sad news. They can't approve The Great Mouse Detective. I'm asking about Boba Fett from Star Wars or a Jack and Sally themed cake from Nightmare Before Christmas (pretty sure someone's had this one done before).

Is it possible to pay for your cake prior to the meal, so it doesn't show up on the bill?

Dang... that's a drag! Any chance you have some figurines/toys of the characters and they could just decorate the cake as a setting for them?

People have tried, but most of the time, the charge ends up on the restaurant bill anyway. If you'll actually be at the restaurant, you could ask the server to put it on a separate check. I've done that several times.

OK - I spoke with "Its Tasty Too!" and she can do a great cake for me. I am just going to send her some figurine's. Including delivery she is quoting $135!! I am thrilled. Party not til May - but I will post pics after! Thanks for the curve ball!
