Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

I've drank around the world a few times, here are some of my favorites...

Canada: La Fin du monde (makes a good argument to start drinking around the world in Mexico and ending in Canada with a drink called end of the world)
France: Grand Marnier Slush
Japan: Toyko Sunset
China: Cantaloupe Loopy or Tipsy Ducks in Love (probably one of the strongest drinks you'll get while DATW)

I don't think La Cava makes drinks to order anymore (all pre-made) so its not as good as it used to be :(
We did not get to do most of the world showcase the last time we were there. We are planning our date night to drink around the world. Our self inviting friends have extended their stay so that they can "be there for our date night" and will be with us.

Who else is using Kids Nite Out as a sitter? I asked them to arrive at 4 am for the 5K. The woman said that many others had booked that time. Does this seem ok? Also, what time does the race officially end? I know it starts at 6, and I figure the 4 of use may take up to 90 minutes (not really, but with trying to navigate around people, better to over estimate.) Anyway, point in this, what time do you guys think we would get back to our resort? Once we are done racing, how long do we have to stick around for? Also, we will have our car, should we drive to race, or will monorail be running? Thanks for any advice!

Bumping this... still looking for advice. Thanks!

Also, did they change the kids race times this year? We booked it for our toddler after seeing it started at 9 am in Epcot last year. I just looked again and noticed its at 11 at ESPN this year. Totally bummed, we will have to skip it now :(

We've never used a sitter at Disney, so I can't address your first question. But I am with you on the kids' races disappointment. When we registered our youngest for the 1-mile, it was based on our previous experience - kids' races at Epcot, with the 1-mile going through Epcot at 9ish. Now, it's 11am at WWOS and the one-mile could be as late as 12:30, if it's anything like marathon weekend. Our youngest usually runs the 5K, and if we knew all this in advance, I would have run the 5K with him. But he was interested in seeing how fast he could run the 1-mile in Epcot. But now it's not in Epcot and far later than anticipated. He loves running and it's his only run of the weekend, so we'll still do it.

Wow, they have a serious misunderstanding of what date night is. I say either pick a fake fight with your spouse OR be so smoothly that you drive them away lol.

Anyone have ideas for alternatives to those handmade tutus for someone who might be having body image issues? There's concern over how they will look. Sigh. Has to be inexpensive too. Thought a party store tiara and a simple tutu would be fun but the latter might not work. Thoughts?

I have been reading some of the posts on the run disney run fb page and getting all mushy inside. @Panikim you are definitely not the only one!

Yesterday I posted on my FB that I had done 6.75 miles before 10:00 a.m. and thought I had earned some bacon. My friend who never works out, and is very overweight commented "but no stairs." Um, really?? I can't be the only one with clueless friends!

So I am I the only schmuck that gets teary eyed watching and reading other peoples' experience at the run?

You're not the only one. To get me through these last few weeks before our trip, I'll watch videos of past years' PHM races on YouTube, and it gets me all misty-eyed remembering each mile. And this will be my 5th PHM! LOL

I also get misty-eyed while I'm waiting in my corral and they sing the national anthem and when the fireworks go off for each corral's start. Even to this day, so many races later, it still gets to me. I think I just get so overwhelmed by the comaraderie and runner's spirit, along with the immensity of just how big this race is and the culmination of so many month's hard work...it truly is a magical experience.

I made a skirt to go over the tutu I have out of satin. Could try that.

I have body image issues and I found that the confetti dot skirts (along the lines of a sparkle skirt) are my best option. If you make it yourself (can be hand sewn but better with a machine) it costs between $5-10 depending on if you have coupons for your local fabric store. I use this tutorial: https://daisyfrancesca.wordpress.com/2013/03/14/running-skirt-diy-style/

Not sure exactly what you are working on, but if it is the no sew....you could made the "ties" longer. Most I have seen are pretty short, but making the skirt part longer help elongate the body.
I also saw some great elastic at Hancock's the other day...about 2 inches wide (think waist band) and several colors.

We've always been able to leave our kids home with grandparents, luckily. But we've always wondered how it would work during a race weekend. Are they able to watch kids for the time of a half marathon?

Please let us know about the experience when you get back!

I just deferred my GSC entry to 2017 due to injury. :( I want to wish you all luck in your races, and have so much fun!
I'm sorry to hear this, Ariel. Hope you have a speedy recovery and will see you at DL for Tink!!

I highly recommend the citron slushies in France and the Grapefruit beer in Germany. I'm not a huge beer drinker, but that grapefruit beer...La Cava is on my to-do list this trip!

I've just discovered (within the past month) a huge love of grapefruit, so even though I'm not really a beer drinker, I think I need to try that for sure!

Awe I'm sad to hear that about La Cava! Do all the margarita places use pre-made? We are having dinner at La Hacienda so maybe I can get a legit marg there?

Wow, this greatly changes our plans! Thank you for posting this! My daughter is so excited for the kids race. Where did you find the time as late as 12:30 for the one mile? Guess we did out when we get there. I have an ADR for akershaus at 9:45...

Anyone heard of extra 5K bibs anywhere? I know it is a long shot, but I would love to get two more so that my Aunt and Cousin could join us. They decided to join the trip well after registration was ended.

Thanks for that. Might be the perfect solution.

That's what I thought too. But I think some pictures were seen that made people worry about the hips.

I saw one especially fabulous r2 themed tutu this morning. She used a ton of tulle and it made me want to make one. and for the waist of the tied-tulle she used the button-front waist from her old jeans. Neat idea!

I was reading the 2016 Marathon Weekend event guide (missing the 2015 Marathon Weekend, so was just reading it, considering the 2017 Dopey.) The Marathon Weekend event guide states the kids' runs start at WWOS at 11am, with the 1-mile starting at 12:30. The PHM website still says 11am for kids' run with a rolling start, and, "The One Mile will have a separate start location and time." So I'm not sure what the "separate time" will be, but thinking it could be as late as 12:30pm based on the Marathon Weekend schedule. I guess we won't know for sure until they either update the PHM page or release the event guide - but at least we'll have the information a couple weeks in advance.

Most definitely not! I LOOOOVE reading and watching others' run Disney experiences. I have been checking instagram way more often these past couple of weeks with WDW marathon and now this weekend's Star Wars half at DL. It seriously is getting me through the agonizing waiting!
