Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

Yeah, I'm going through a phase that you might call "retirement" or a "radical sabbatical", or even "fun-employment" ... it certainly makes it easy to do things, especially when my husband can work from anywhere. That's why I gotta pack in as much fun stuff as I want before I figure out what I want to be when I grow up.

I don't want to be a grown up most days. Gotta enjoy life which you totally are doing! Enjoy it!

I was just thinking as I am making dinner that two weeks from now I will have a week of no cooking:) Boathouse two weeks from tonight!

I love Boathouse! Its our new favorite restaurant!

I'm flying out Wednesday as well! Dinner at Morimoto that night - SO EXCITED.

Morimito is also awesome! I got to meet him our first time there in October :)

Can we go back to shopping talk? I have never run with sunglasses before, but watching video of the half marathon makes me wonder if I am going to want some. Does anyone have a brand they can recommend?

Call me the bourgeoisie Princess; but I run only in Oakleys. Hell, other than one small detour to Maui Jims (nice glasses, but coming from Oakley not enough coverage for me without a hat or visor) I literally own no other sunglasses. Okay, I take that back, there's a pair of Fossil in my Owner's Locker; and a pair of Guess in my "Disney Bags" at home- both under $20 from TJMaxx. And those are only in case of emergency glasses.

Otherwise? Strictly Oakley. I own 6 pairs, two polarized- one red iridium that has become my daily go to's and one that odd golden brown that I wear only in snow. The other 4 pairs are all the regular black. Nothing else sits that well on my face without sliding/pinching/rubbing.

Did I mention I trust only Oakley?

I'm trying to make my FP+s and pretty much EVERYTHING is available - but nothing is really speaking to me!

So - two questions to pass the time until we get official race related news from rD:

1. What FP+s are you MOST excited about?
2. What ADRs did you make?

Not doing FP's for this trip. No park time. But in terms of ADR style things:
1. Wanyama Safari (see below)
2. After YEARS of DVC Ownership, I finally managed to snag a 1BR Club level at AKV. I've managed to do all manner of 'hard to get' ressies (looking at GFV standard view studio less than 3 months after opening, and you BWV during F&W festival over a weekend and NOT as a home resort booking) but have NEVER managed to get this one. Then saw it open up one day and promptly switched half my stay to accomodate it.
3. Sports Massage with the BEST masseuse ever at GF
4. Brunch at Cali Grill
5. Trader Sam's- even if I'm alone
6. Being at Disney. Oh wait, how did that get there?

I mean, it's not my thing - but I can take one for the team and go to Trader Sam's with you. I'd hate for you to be alone!

* It's really very much my thing *

I am so happy that it is time for all of the packing talk to start up. We are going for 4 nights this time so it is easily doable with a carryon wheelie and a large purse. I wear my half marathon shoes onto the plane and pack the spare in my wheelie bag. I carry the full half marathon attire in my large purse. I learned also.....as I have seen mentioned here by others....to pack few shirts because half the fun is wearing the official race shirt to the parks after the race.

The biggest challenge is the toiletries because of the hair products. I have made it an art form to pack all liquids jels potions and products into the single quart bag. I bring special blue shampoo (only shampoo i will use) and heavy duty conditioner. Three different forms of leave in conditioner. Tiny hair spray, iron guard spray and perfume spray. Travel size mascara, extra vaseline, foundation in one of those 10 day sample containers from the department store. I have travel size blush, face powder, curling iron. My friends that I usually meet up with think my toiletry bag is a scream.

It is all possible with the tiny containers that I have amassed. The no name dollar stores around here were great for finding just the right size travel containers. For some of the creams and things i have found containers as small as about a half an ounce. It is just about time to top off all the containers I brought out to the Star Wars Races. Yay. I love the packing talk! And these Rundisney boards have been so friendly and fun to keep up with.

I mean, @Keels I'd hate to put you out! What kind of person would I be to drag you to a place where apparently volcanoes explode and magical things happen just by ordering a drink? Plus, It's my first time- I've never been there. But apparently, it's a drag. Bad drinks. Boring. No fun. No one else should really waste their time with going.

:rolleyes1

TWO SHOTS OF RUM!

How have you never been?!?! I don't even know about this world anymore.

Adulting is highly over rated.

I wear sunglasses for nearly every run. I have prescription sunglasses and the frames are Coach. They stay on really well, never a worry about them falling off.

What is this Trader Sam's with exploding drinks? Where can I find this magical place?

It's a fun little bar at the Polynesian Resort- Downstairs by Captain Cooks. It opens at 4 and has minimal seating. The original is at the Disneyland Hotel (in CA). I love it.

I need to wear prescription glasses all the time. I wear a pair of very lightweight frameless RayBan transition lenses. They are perfect for the races because we start running in the dark and finish in the light. Before I bought these I'd carry a cheap pair of prescription sunglasses and switch off when needed. It is much easier to not have to fuss with a second pair of glasses.

I was planning to go by Thursday right at 4, before I go to DHS for the fireworks party if anyone wants to join!

Oh, I need to pack my spikey ball. So much easier to put in luggage than my spikey log.

I actually pack my big roller in my checked bag and a small one in the carryon, just in case. Fun fact about me...I'm a huge overpacker.

It's now less than 2 weeks until I fly to Florida!

I've never done a runDisney race or a 'racecation' before. Does anyone have anything they consider a 'must pack' item?

Again, I over pack. I take anything I can't replace in my carryon. All of my race stuff, any special snacks, toiletries I can't find just anywhere, etc. I so bring an extra pair of running shoes.

1. No parks, no FP+!
2. I have 1 ADR for Ohana! That's it. This is a plan free trip, other than that, a meetup, and the race.

We fly in Wednesday as well. We will eat somewhere at DTD, probably Wolfgang Puck, and then go see Yeehaw Bob!

I have definite plans to collapse. It takes me all day to get there, so I grab food and go to bed.

Same here. I actually have prescription sunglasses that I prefer to run in, but I don't want to carry glasses that are that expensive and necessary to my being able to see.

Maybe! I'll probably be having a Diet Coke though. lol

This is a wonderful thought! Two weeks from now I will be getting into Orlando late-ish, but have a pre-park BOG ADR the next morning! :D :D :D

I am so excited about Splash Mountain. That was my favorite ride growing up at DLR, but last DW trip (Feb. '14) it was closed for maintenance. I can't wait to ride again!

This is my DH right here: only Oakleys! I don't trust myself to keep track of expensive sunglasses, so each summer I buy 2 or 3 from Target. I would like to find that perfect pair that stays secure but is still cute for running though. I should probably invest in a pair.

i'm thinking I'll be there! Have never been and would enjoy meeting fellow disers!

How will we identify each other?

So, a bit of wine while catching up on disboards and a bib #leak makes for a late night! I am so excited, we leave 2 weeks from tomorrow-family trip-my kids are doing the one mile as well as me doing the GSC. I know I have not run as much as I probably should have to train, but not worried at all-I know I can do the distance.
I admire all of you who can only carry on. I am such an overpacker too!!

2. What ADRs did you make?

Wave breakfast Thursday, Sanaa early dinner or late lunch (can't recall) Friday, brunch at Raglan Road Saturday.

We aren't doing parks at all, making it a relaxation weekend. My cousin is a mom of 3, one of whom is turning 2 very soon, and never gets to get away alone, so I'm hoping she gets some serious down-time. (I'm also hoping we can keep from talking politics because that would get bad VERY quickly)

I finally managed to snag a 1BR Club level at AKV.

Wow, nice. I'm not the biggest AKL fan, but I do like a Club level.

Trader Sam's- even if I'm alone

I already have TS on my list. I'll have room somewhere to pack my Polynesian Pearl cup. :) Expensive drinks, but oh well!

I was going to shoot for carryon only, but then for my flight home I managed to snag a first class seat with miles on Delta. Which means free bags. Well, that means I might want to check a bag on the way out. Just another $25 and I can pack more than just in carryon...OK, they've twisted my arm.

I'm taking my first red eye flight since I was a brand new 18 (not counting the two trips to Ireland). I get in on Thursday around 6am. The hope is that I get *some* sleep, but I end up so sleepy that I get to bed at a decent hour for the early morning on Friday. My cousin is taking some sort of shuttle out from the coast and we'll meet up at the airport and take DME in. :)
