Naveen Ain't Playin: My Glitteriest, Princessiest TR Ever! (FINISHED 4/13)

Great pic with Indy!

Cute pics of Donald and Daisy!

WOAH Cinderella's slipper, that's awesome!

Congrats on applying for the DCP. Sending pixie dust your way!

Awesome pics at Tusker House :)

Thank you so much!!

Seeing Cinderella's slipper out and about was super cool.

Thank you- pixie dust received! :tink:

Tusker house was a lot of fun!

Glad you enjoyed Tusker House! The next time I go to AK I want to try it. Everyone always has good reviews for it here on the DIS.

Your character pictures are adorable! Love the shirt too!! Where is it from?! I am always looking for new stores to buy Disney shirts in:teeth:

I was TOTALLY not expecting it from Tusker House, either- it was always a turn-off because I'm not too adventurous when it comes to eating new things. I booked it on a whim this trip so that we would have a TS meal but wouldn't have to go back to AK for dinner, and we really enjoyed it.

Thank you... it's from Wal-Mart! :rotfl: we saw it as we were about to check out and threw it in! We got an Ariel one, too. They have a cool selection of Disney stuff!

Oh cool! I knew that Wal-Mart had some Disney shirts and stuff, but that shirt is above my expectations for Wal-Mart - in a good way of course!;)
It's funny, I was never a Wal-Mart shopper before, but since there is one like 5 minutes away in the mall by my school, my friends and I go all the time! Wal-Mart becomes the new thing in college!:rotfl:The next time we go there I will have to check out their juniors/women's clothing!

Any plans to see any broadway shows soon?! I am, dying to buy some tickets with my friends soon. I am shooting for the summer!::yes::

See, I used to visit the Wal-Mart with my family once in a blue moon growing up. But now that I live in NYC, it's all about Trader Joes, Duane Read, and LotLess... so I guess those are "our things" for NYC college students :rotfl2:

I just saw Fiddler on the Roof with my family on Saturday. It was pretty good, aside from some weird things the director chose that I didn't agree with. I'm going to BroadwayCon on Friday, other than that, no shows planned right now! Once I get back to school, they start up the "Broadway Show Series" again, so I'll see some stuff with that!

I cannot believe that I've allowed myself to fall so far behind again, but worry not, I am all caught up once more. For the sake of space and time I'll just comment on the 3 most recent updates.

First of all, I feel your pain of not getting picked for Indy I tried so hard and also failed to get picked.

However, getting to meet him is super cool and the photo came out great.

40 minutes to get seated? Oh no. I would not have been happy. I get so hangry and it smells so good in 50sPT.

However, it seems like the whole meal was worth the wait and that you had a great waitress.

I am definitely sending you lots of pixie dust for your interview. You can rock it and you'd be an amazing CP.

I agree that I'd have turned around after hearing that announcement for Fantasmic. Like, that ain't happening.

Breakfast looks delicious and you had tons of great pictures.

Plus, I love your Lion King shirt!!

That's okay! Welcome back!!!

Not getting picked for Indy... #justdisfanproblems

He was a cool guy!

Right? Thankfully, we were seated at the bar and drinking things the whole time, so at least we were livin' the life in an air conditioned bar.

The meal was amazing and our waitress ROCKED!

Thank you for the pixie dust!!! :teeth: fingers crossed!!!

Right?!?!? Like, Disney World IN GENERAL is SRO. No way am I gonna stand around for Fantasmic. And could you imagine the crowds that evening??? Fantasmic is, like, not small. If it was SRO I could only imagine what it looked like that night.

It was a great meal!

Thank you!!! I got it for cheap at Wal-Mart... they had some cute clothes before we left!

The Obligatory Kilimanjaro Safari/FotLK Update

I'll make the first half of this update as quick as possible, since everyone takes a lot of Kilimanjaro Safari pics and I assume we all want to get through them as quickly as possible. I didn't take a lot of safari photos this time, surprisingly! And I'm posting even less here.

After we completed our short Pangani Forest trail, we sat down near the FP+ entrance for KS. The FP+ workers were SUPER excite about something this morning, so they were like, "COME ON, COME ON, YOU GOT A FP+??? WE GOT MAGIC THAT CAN TURN BLUE LIGHTS GREEN!!!" so we scanned our magicbands and they let us in 15 minutes early!

Elephants!!!

IMG_2991_zpsu65qgnft.jpg

Ostrich? Emu? One of those.

IMG_2993_zpsvstggqcq.jpg

After we got off our safari expedition, we had a FP+ for a showing of Festival of the Lion King waiting for us. We went to the bathroom, got a drink of water, and then queued up for FotLK.

IMG_2994_zpsv8juppyg.jpg

IMG_2995_zps8aactfyf.jpg

Everybody I've spoken to said I needed to catch FotLK on the last trip.

We were waiting outside for aaaaages. What's the use of a FP+ if we're all going to be standing outside in the humidity for 40 minutes after our MB is scanned?

We sat in the Elephant section!!!

Everyone in my family LOVED it!!! It was tons of fun and full of all the Lion King songs we love. There were a lot of cool stunts and the costumes were so pretty! Plus, how cute is that Simba animatronic?!?! Do they make a stuffed one?!?!?!

We definitely agreed to see it again next time we visited.

After we got out of the show, my family decided they were going to go back to the hotel for a swim. Of course, I had other plans. Plans that involved me meeting a few people I missed on my last trip...

Wal-Mart in Canada doesn't carry as many Disney shirts, which is sad.

Sounds like the CMs that morning were in very good moods and going in early is never a bad thing.

Yeah, the FP+ for FOTLK does mean waiting forever outside. At least you've got a chance of sitting in the lion section, since that's one of the first areas that FP+ people are sent.

Ooh that sounds fun! Is BrowayCon like Comic con - just with Broadway shows/stuff?
Also with the "Broadway Show Series" do you get discounts on Broadway tickets and stuff?

SO TRUE! If this is the bridge I'm thinking of, the one that makes a lot of noise when you go over it, my friends were so scared and had hilarious faces as we were going over!:rotfl2:

I think you get better/closer seats.
Yeah those are awesome seats! If there are young kids sitting towards the front of the arena, I believe they have a better chance of being chosen by the stars of the show to participate.

SO happy you enjoyed it! Looking forward to finding out who you saw...I think I have an idea...:thumbsup2 Explorers much?!

Hey Kaitlyn,

Loved the new update:D. Kilimanjaro Safari is such a great ride, it's unique every time you go on it. Can't wait to see where you go next!

~ Marina

Great TR so far! I'm glad your first year is going well and hope things go well with the DCP. I only hope they have that photo op with the shoe when we go. I'm a big fan of the Cinderella movie. And your Little Twin Star notebook is great! I didn't even know they still had LTS around. I still have LTS pencils (that still smell like apple and stuff) from when I lived in Japan for a bit with my family ** mumble, mumble ** years ago.

They were! And it never is!

Right? We ended up in the elephant section this time, but I'm determined to get into the lion section next time.

It was a ton of good fun!!! It was just like Comic-con. I'm gonna post about it in the Broadway show thread in a little bit. It was honestly amazing. The "Broadway Show Series" works a little differently than most student discount tix-- instead of everyone using a discount to buy a ticket to a show whenever it's convenient for them, Pace buys a block of tickets as a group for one date. That's how I saw Hamilton for $60 in two days notice. Tickets go in sale a month in advance, then we all take the subway to the show together.

IT IS the bridge you're thinking of and it's CRAZY.

Everybody looook left everybody looook right

We do, but still... so much waiting. So much heat. Ick.

The wilderness must be explored!!!! caw-caw!!!!

Thanks Marina! That's so true, and why it's so appealing: It's always a different safari! Can't wait to keep you updated!

Thank you, welcome aboard! College is a lot of fun. The shoe seems to be a random happenstance, so I hope it randomly happenstances to you! I hadn't ever heard of LTS until this trip, but they're super cute and I gotta buy more when I go back to Epcot.

Great update! Glad you loved FOTLK :)

Thank you!!

Has your second semester started up again? Or do you go back Monday (I'm not being creepy lol - I have a friend that goes to school at the Pace campus in pleasantville lol)
Either way - I just wanted to wish you good luck! I'm hoping this semester will be easier and go by quicker.::yes::

It started up this morning, despite having only about 65% of on-campus residents actually here. Jonas cancelled everyone's flights I still had to be at computing this morning, 10 AM sharp. Good luck to you too!!! Hopefully it'll be easier and quicker because we know the ropes now!!!

Yeah, it's a really fun thread!!!

You can have... um... a virtual hug? As a prize!

A Characterriffic AK Afternoon

After my family and I said our goodbyes, I started looking for Tarzan's M&G location. He was a newer regular addition to the park, and I wasn't sure if he was gonna last, so of course I had to see for myself what he was like.

I walked up to him and said "Hi Tarzan! How are you?"

He was all, "Tarzan... good. You... Good?"

I was like, "Yeah, I'm great! Can you sign my book please?"

Then he was like, "Jane teach Tarzan how to write name... Jane give me banana when I do good..."

And I was like, "Yep, sounds good."

And he was like, "... You have banana?"

And then I was all, "Nope, I'm... I'm sorry buddy, I don't have any one me right now. Next time?"

And he nodded and smiled and was all, "Next time".

IMG_3039_zpsccyfserm.jpg

IMG_3041_zpsyg8go4ey.jpg

IMG_3042_zpsabyzom93.jpg

He was... quite interesting. Quite a meet and greet.

Then I moved on to a certain princess who paints with all the colors of the wind.

IMG_3049_zpsyvzzatba.jpg

I started off at the very end of the line and it was UGGHHHH so far away from her but the internet was right-- I barely waited 15 minutes before I was up close and personal with poca.

IMG_3052_zpseurfswes.jpg

We had a very standard conversation. We spoke a little bit about Meeko, a little bit about the riverbend, a little bit about the colors of the wind. You know how these Poca-convos usually go.

IMG_3054_zpsely18qer.jpg

Then I went on Expedition Everest TWICE. I thought about going on it more than twice but ultimately got hungry and decided to move on. Not before stopping by the gift shop, though. I saw these little babies:

yeticat_real.jpg

(Photo from Parkeology)

And oh my gosh, aren't they the cutest? I decided not to drop the $15 on one, but ugh... next time for sure.

I got some Flame Tree BBQ. It's weird because Flame Tree is something I've wanted to try since, like, I first saw the Unwrapped Disney Special when I was 8 years old, but something I only got around to this trip.

IMG_3057_zps0ie60gir.jpg

As a mediocre DISer, this was the only photo I got that includes any sort of ribs.

The meal was... eh, standard. Ribs can either be really good or really bad, and they're usually the latter when it comes to QS BBQ.

Cheers with my chocolate mousse (also standard)

IMG_3058_zpsyvyycv1n.jpg

After lunch, I headed over to Russel and Dug's M&G location. It was, like, 5 minutes until their posted time and nobody was around so I was like :confused::confused:

I had to ask a CM who was all, "Yeah get in line now because once everyone sees them they come flocking".

I got in line, was first, and sure enough everyone flocked to my location when they saw these two!

IMG_3062_zpstksxloyg.jpg

These two actually weren't... the best? They were kind of boring, Russel more so than Dug (who gave me a big hug and was very sweet), but we got some great pics.

IMG_3063_zps6rhwcdhf.jpg

IMG_3067_zpsk3zqkjuq.jpg

So when I was done there, I headed back to the front of the park. It was getting super hot and I was ready for a swim.

But first... I stopped at the AK souvenir shop. They have the most unique stuff on property, wouldn't you agree? And I had barely bought anything for me this whole trip, sans my mini Epcot haul.

I got a Duffy keychain and a princess pouch.

IMG_3069_zpsuifhudnd.jpg

The princess pouch was actually a MASSIVE disappointment. It was too small for my iPhone!!! But, you know, buyers beware right? It was only $10 and super pretty, so I wasn't too sad about it, but still...

Duffy is the love of my life and resides on my dorm desk.

IMG_3070_zps1wmmi174.jpg

Au revoir, AK! Anyone see Mickey ears peeking out of that cloud on top?

Dole Whips, Pixie Dust, and a Purple Mickey Balloon

(So this update is gonna be kinda short-ish. But I just gave you an update and I'm gonna update after I take a shower, which will take out the rest of this day, so just keep calm and power through this tiny lil thing and I'll BRB)

I went to the pool for an hour. It was very boring and I subsequently don't have pics. I took a shower and got dressed again and my family didn't know what they were gonna do for dinner, so I told them they knew where to find me when they got it figured out.

IMG_3074_zpssowpe6ih.jpg

It was a little drizzly. So I headed over to Adventureland for the first of several this trip...

IMG_3075_zpshlld3lic.jpg

The LOVE of MY LIFE!!! Have you ever seen anything so beautiful???

Well, maybe except for this...

IMG_3076_zpscteaeqok.jpg

The bunnies and duckies, unlike us humans, rather enjoyed the wet weather.

I caught them out and about after I had taken refuge underneath a Frontierland porch for a bit. It cleared up as soon as I had finished my Dole Whip. How's that for timing?

IMG_3077_zpsruxfoi5z.jpg

I decided to take a rest at the Philharmagic, because, why not?

IMG_3078_zpsvdhc6lz3.jpg

My faaaaaaaaav. So good.

Then I popped into Castle Couture for a bit because DUH. There were so many AWESOME cast members in there having a good time that I just had to go up to one and ask for pixie dust. Then, when he was finished pixie dusting I asked for a photo and he was like "OMG YES ABSOLUTELY I did a great job this is like prime" and I was like "ur perfect"

IMG_3080_zpstzs7dxru.jpg

He was NOT wrong! He did an AH-MAZING job. And it was the first of a LOT of pixie dust that stayed in my hair for like a month after I came back from the trip. My mom would be all, "there's still pixie dust in your hair!" and I'd be all, "You say that like it's a problem".

IMG_3079_zpsobchwu4p.jpg

IMG_3081_zpsh3d5lep9.jpg

IMG_3082_zpsuknnwrcx.jpg

I walked around for quite a bit, taking a few photos and just enjoying Main Street.

Then I figured... you know what? What better way to commemorate such a lovely day then with a balloon?

IMG_3086_zps1re91ktk.jpg

This was, without a doubt, the best $12 every spent on a balloon in the history of balloons. I fell in love. Growing up, as I may have already told you, I never saw Disney World. I went once when I was 5, once when I was 13, and then the past two years. And my parents would never drop that kind of money for a balloon growing up, so this was kind of a right-of-passage for me. I felt like I wouldn't be able to move on in my life without at least experiencing ONE Mickey balloon.

Did I just spend a whole paragraph describing a balloon? Yes.
Was it worth it? Absolutely.

IMG_3087_zpsbkb16ii0.jpg

Then my parents requested that I met them outside by the buses.

Except they weren't at the buses yet, and I waited a full 45 minutes for them to meet me there. I could have probably met Aurora and gone on BTMRR twice before they showed up. But I didn't want to risk it, because I was hearing thunder and storms + balloons = no bueno.

Finally they got to the bus stop and told me what they were thinking for dinner. So we got on the bus to yet another first for us...

World's Okayest Night At The Boardwalk

We got on the first bus to the Boardwalk Resort!

IMG_3089_zpshblzfdou.jpg

My dad has always wanted to go to the Boardwalk, so this night was really for him. I guess I can't blame him-- it seemed like a really pretty and interesting place from the travel videos we've seen!

IMG_3090_zpsyuggnklt.jpg

As a family from Jersey who has gone to the Wildwood Crest boardwalk every year for the past 18 years, we agreed that the design of the area hits the nail on the head. While most of the current WildWood boardwalk is reflective of the new age (airbrushed T-Shirts, "casino"-esque arcades, and more modern rides and mazes), the Disney Boardwalk captured the essence of the old Jersey Shore circa 1900, which is still reflected in much of Cape May today.

Plus, look at this view!

IMG_3096_zps02onrrbv.jpg

We decided to put our name in for a table at Trattoria Al Forno.

IMG_3097_zpsq6e2c8pv.jpg

We were told it'd be an hour wait, and ended up being about 35. It wasn't bad, Grace and I walked around a little bit and soaked in the Disney Boardwalk air.

We were seated and ordered our drinks. I got one of these beauties!

IMG_3102_zps84fea5cl.jpg

While it was originally a treasure to behold, I must admit that it is no longer in the glory it once was :( I brought it to college and let my room mate use it once, who forgot to clean it out. The result was that it became moldy and gross. The cup was salvaged with some cleaning (though I probably won't drink from it ever again), but the straw... ick. Had to go. Anyway!

First we had a bread service and calamari, both were wonderful. The bread was served warm. There was a balsamic reduction over the calamari which was perfectly sweet and just how I like my calamari.

The rest of the meal was not.

Grace and I both ordered the chicken parmigiana, which was awful. At first our dad was like, "you guys are just too picky!", but then he had a piece and agreed with us. It was nasty. The chicken and pasta were fine enough by themselves, but the red sauce was awful and the cheese on top of the chicken was very chewy and obviously not fresh.

You win some, you lose some.

When we were finished with our dinner, we went next door to the Boardwalk Bakery.

IMG_3106_zpsoh9gjxmf.jpg

Okay, so last year, my dad ran into a friend of ours from NJ at the Magic Kingdom totally by coincidence. That's a running joke in our familly-- no matter where we go, our dad always seems to run into somebody he knows! So we get to the bakery, and the SAME friend we met last year was standing in there. How crazy is that???

We get inside and my eye immediately falls on one of these little beauties:

IMG_3107_zpsuutvofxj.jpg

The Minnie Mouse Tart. We get our desserts packaged up to go and then do a little more walking around on the Boardwalk.

We were disappointed to find what looked like mostly clubs on the other half of the Boardwalk, but we did do a little snooping around the resort itself. The pool is RIDICULOUSLY cute and the stores are, too. My family wants to stay there once, but, eh... it reminds me a little too much of New Jersey. If I want to go to Cape May, I'll just go to Cape May, you feel?

Then we had to take the bus to MK (which was the longest bus ride ever) and took a boat launch back to the Wilderness Lodge.

The verdict? It was a very okay night at the Boardwalk. Not very eventful, not a great meal, not much got done.

I dug into my dessert, journaled, and went to sleep!

IMG_3108_zpsys1kfpmm.jpg

It was a pretty good tart! The crust was a little hard for my liking, but the chocolate ganache was perfect and the white chocolate was also lovely.

I was very excited for the next day, which I had dubbed "Kaitlyn day" beforehand.

I also want to stay at the Boardwalk. Or the Polynesian. I love the theming at Boardwalk but I love all the restaurants at the Polynesian.

I hate bad Italian food and generally refuse to order anything with red sauce at a place I don't know. I am a little nervous because we are going to Mama Melrose's at DHS on our next trip and the reviews have not been awesome, but my sister in law really wants to go there.

Loving your trip report:love:

True! Poly is my dream resort!

As of now, I refuse to eat anything with red sauce anywhere but in NYC/NJ. We have a great place in Little Italy that we love, and a couple local places. Other than that, I'm gonna stick to steak/beef when I go to Italian places anywhere other than up here. Bad Italian food is the worst! I wish you luck at Mama Melrose. Just pick a "safe" dish and if you like it, you can always go back and be more adventurous :smokin:
