Increased ticket prices coming soon?

I'm a Disney travel planner and we do not get much notice either. Sometimes, we get notice on a Friday or Saturday that the price is going up on Sunday. The past few price increases I believe have been on Sundays. I do not know why, just is. Other times, we find out the same time as the "public". I'm just as curious as everyone else. I did, however, tell my clients who are considering trips this summer to think about buying their tickets soon. If you have a deposit on a package and the ticket price increases, your price does NOT change. Hope this helps.

So I am trying to book my vacation tonight for August and it won't let me add the park hopper nor change anything in my cart for that matter. I hope the prices aren't changing tomorrow....

More likely a technical glitch.

It could be your browser. I have noticed that if I try to use Google Chrome with MDE, I have had similar issues. I was trying to price out tickets and it would not allow me to add any extras to the base ticket, so I switched to Internet Explorer and did not have the same issues.

For as long as I've known they only change prices effective on a Sunday, after uploading them Saturday night. Even the cast members don't generally get a notice before Saturday...

I went ahead and purchased my tickets today.
Luckily I had a large giftcard I was saving for food during my trip...I really didn't want to put $700 on my credit card.

I just hope they don't switch to tiered and change the upgrading capabilities of the MYW base tickets. If they make it impossible for my to add an extra day or to add hopper, I guess I'll spend more time at the resort! Which won't be a bad thing!

I also went ahead and bought our tickets for a future trip. If you can't add a day, you could take a side trip offsite.

I have too. I have four 4-day base tickets in my MDE. If we want to add a day to them and are able to, whenever we go, we might. If not, no biggie.

You can always add days to multiday tickets up until their last day of use...if I remember correctly. You can also typically retroactively "upgrade" them to an annual if you do it within the 14 day window that starts after the first day of use.

This by far remains the major customer friendly policy still offered by Disney...all others have gone away. And also it's $10 per person per day after a 4 day base ticket. Pennies in the grand scheme of all the other costs.

The question will be how they will handle adding days to original MYW tickets, if they go to a new type of ticket that has different restrictions? Will it require "upgrading" to the new ticket, and at what cost, before then adding days? Or will they treat existing MYW tickets as the new "Platinum" (or whatever they call it), and allow adding to them as they did under the current rules?

I have no doubt that they will allow it, I'm just wondering how they will structure the cost.

I haven't the foggiest...

But knowing that the Disney computer systems are always held together with duct tape and chewing gum...I'd advise them not to push it ;)

This will sound probably worse than I mean it, but in a way I wish we had never gone to Disney. Because, the children fell in love, and even now, 8 months later, it's all they talk about, and they want to go back so badly, as in they were actually crying when they learned we weren't going back this year. And I want to take them back, so badly. But between the Canadian dollar plunge, and the probability that tiered pricing is coming... there's a very real chance we won't get back, which makes me sad. All I can do is hope, hope, hope that they don't implement tiered pricing, or do a substantial price increase until after summer 2017. But, deep down, I also think that the likelihood of that, is slim to none. :(

I totally get your sentiment...and not in my normal playfully sarcastic way.

We miss it when we are not there. The current 9 month hiatus is the longest I've had since 1997...
But I hate the place in a way too...it's diminishing returns and has been a rather tragic slow slide of overall amazement of the place and quality from where I sit in the cheap seats.

It stinks that "recreation" comes with so much red tape

Not just one billion, two plus billion!

You know...I've softened my stance on the program and Iger In regards to it...

I think he fell on a grenade for wdw on this one.
Remember when the rumor mill was all about "enhanced" and "customized" experiences?

Well...that was never really in the cards from what I can tell...it's just too big/crowded and the days are too short.

Wdw...for those of you out there that know what I'm saying...had an absolutely Horrid computer/network/infrastucture system. It wasnt 5 years behind the times as many businesses are...in some ways it was 20 until fairly recently.
I think the RFID system and the fastpass booking system and the app were a minor part...they have their advantages but it was more the dressing on the salad.

I think it was just a massive, desperately needed IT retrofit...one that has to be lied about in a public entertainment stock company because Wall Street only wants sales. I think Iger was more wise here than I gave him credit for...

They also did it during an upswing...which means they could claim "spending is up" because their patterns knew that would happen anyway.

That being said...their wifi still sucks and the app doesn't work in the park

I agree but honestly I personally haven't had a problem with in park wifi or the app in the park.

The Canadian dollar plunge (or US dollar surge) really is causing a lot of pain for travel to the US. That difference will be much worse than any tiered price increase. The fact is we want to do ANYTHING to make our kids happy, but really they are NOT scarred for life if they don't go back to Disney World every year, regardless of what Disney tells us.

The funny thing with the ticket prices is we complain about it endlessly - but typically you are talking maybe a $20 per person price increase year over year on the entire trip, which is nothing compared to the hotel increases and the food increases.

@lockedoutlogic point is good. Going more frequently can tend to lead to a case of diminishing returns, and force you to want to more expensive experiences to try and get the same high as the original trip. You also tend to see the cracks in the casing more. But unlike him, we've been 10 times in the last 10 years and while I won't blow smoke that "every trip is more magical than the last" we just had a wonderful trip this past August and for all the flaws and price increases we still love going.

Wi-Fi really is tough to provide to so dense a population. The more "chatter" going on with all the phones trying to get wi-fi connections, transfer data, etc. the more difficult it is to get anything. And with so many apps wanting to keep you connected, its getting worse.

Wi-Fi itself is vendor-agnostic (or it should be... :rolleyes1), regardless of who is providing the service. If it's bad for you, it is likely bad for others. Some devices are a bit better than others. I've found that on crowded days, my phone battery spends so much time just trying to stay connected to wi-fi that the battery drains. I often turn wi-fi off and just go with my data plan in the park, and my battery lasts a lot longer and its generally more dependable.
