After hours - $149 for EMH?

I thought I heard 2am. Yikes, 5 yeah no thanks at all!
Definitely better than paying $149 for three hours, though! I'm expecting this years party to be $80 for days in September, so, I'd definitely do it. I definitely am, actually, haha.

Anyone know when ticket prices will be announced? Night of Joy already has ticket sales.

Not sure you followed what I said. They could offer an AP that is only at night and mostly headliners. Or a 7 night pass. Or nightly pass to tack on to your day pass. That is exactly "managing crowds".

I just don't see price hikes slowing this thing down.

I'm guessing expansion is your solution correct? Or what else is there?

Trouble is, I don't see the expansion coming even denting wait times.

the problem is they have so many attractions in one park, and not enough in the other parks. MK is slammed full with things to do, the other parks aren't. Expansions at the other parks will help with the crowds from MK. Hopefully people will spend more time at AK because of Avatar, and in a few years more time at DHS because of all the stuff going on there.

That's true. I don't see a night pass at the other parks yet. I do think there is a market for that already though-just not enough yet.

But attractions will still be long waits when that stuff is finished.

When Avatar, Star Wars and Toy Story are done (maybe even Frozen) I predict a night pass could be offered for all 4 parks, at least one park a night anyway. The headliners (even at MK) will still be long waits.

Either way, a "walk on" (or minimal wait) ticket for headliners is intriguing to many guests.

That's not my point, I don't want the night passes, I foresee this at some point taking normal park hours away from standard park operations. The night ticket is their answer to the park being too crowded.

If you add more things to other parks, maybe it draws some crowds away from MK making it less crowded, therefore the night pass isn't needed.

You skipped this:

Not the way I presented it. And it is just a suggestion anyway. I don't see it happening, but being open at night instead of closing adds a huge percentage of available rides-that is "expansion".

Exactly, and it worked. Its called expansion through additional hours.

Not needed doesn't mean there's not a market for it. A lot of attractions (like 7DMT, Space, Pan, BTMRR) will always be long waits even after massive expansion IMO. As will many at other parks.

The survey asked if a guest would pay more for guaranteed low crowds, and it worked.

But if it continues to sell only 300-it will go away on its own anyway, just like EPCOT after hours did.

Not if the other parks were on par with MK and had as much to do, the more things you have to do in a park, or in Disney's case, at a resort, the more you can spread your crowd out.

If the other parks had more things to do, maybe we would spend more than a day at each and less than 3 at MK.

I see it as a lazy way of grabbing more money. I also think it'll take away from the "normal" day ticket, so for some its not an expansion, its a reduction of capacity.

Exactly, and it worked. Its called expansion through additional hours.

And reduction in hours in the long term for those that only purchase the already expensive normal operating cost ticket. Mark my words, normal operating hours will be cut if after hours is successful

If it only sells 300 tickets in future dates, then it didnt really work and there isnt a market for it.

Its possible. But I don't see headliners like 7DMT or TSM or TT or Soarin or the new Avatar and Star Wars rides ever as walk ons even with that much expansion-which there will not be for decades.

My guess is when Toy Story Land, Star Wars Land, Avatar Land and Frozen are complete-7DMT will drop dramatically from 70 minutes to 55 minutes.

This ticket is only for the survey of "guaranteed" low crowds IMO, and will have a market-just not sure sustainable in size. I think a lower price and it will always have a market.

Also look at US/IOA, the gold star in expansion apparently-still super long waits for many of the headliners. So what do they do? Reward higher paying "Deluxe" guests with an hour, or charge up to $150 ea for one park and one shot at non HP headliners.

If the other parks had more things to do, maybe we would spend more than a day at each and less than 3 at MK.

Maybe you would, maybe others would still want the walk on evening.

I'm not sure staying open an additional 6 hours (my suggestion from 3) is lazy. UN/IOA closed at 6/7 last week when we were there, that's a lazy money grab to me.

Not sure how offering a night ticket reduces capacity and takes away from a day ticket.

If true I agree. But there is a pretty good track record of WDW park hours. It would be pretty obvious during most seasons, and I would expect EMH to not go away of course.

Example: what if they offered one night a week (or every night actually) at AK from 10PM to 4AM when Avatar is done? Everybody knows that has never been offered. Heck even the current arrive at 7PM until 1AM or whatever would be new.

If it only sells 300 tickets in future dates, then it didnt really work and there isnt a market for it.
.

I made the exact same point in the quote you responded to:

But if it continues to sell only 300-it will go away on its own anyway, just like EPCOT after hours did.

I suspect its still early though. They could easily be setting up for the future. "Star Wars evenings", "Avatar After Hours" etc.

And with the success (for the guest), a lower price would for sure sell IMO.

Jim hill says they aren't just going to get rid of this yet. They are going to continue to offer it to see if it gains interest.

I think it will...the pictures from the first night showed people walking through the parks with basically no one else there, I've already read many say they would go because of that. It'll be interesting to see that if more do show up and its more crowded, what the response will be.

I thought the atmosphere (as depicted in the pictures and videos I saw of that first event) was a little too quiet. Yes, it would be fun to walk through the park with so few people there, but it takes a certain crowd level to create a festive atmosphere. When you go on a roller coaster with just a couple other people, I don't know... it's just weird. If that first night was only about 1000 people, I'd bet 3000 would actually feel a little more fun, even if it meant having to wait a few minutes for some of the more popular attractions.

I would agree with that, however I will say the one time my wife and I got to take part in the opening of DHS and then ride Aerosmith by ourselves was pretty freaking awesome!

I thought the extra costs for the after hour parties were nuts -- but this is insulting. What's the point of paying to stay onsite if you don't even get the extra hours as a benefit? I thought that was part of the reason for paying extra to stay at Disney!

I am hoping this is JUST a special event item and that on-site guests will still be able to take advantage of extra hours before the gates open to the general public!

It's not replacing extra magic hours.......for now at least.

Same here.... I hope you are right. If this only is addition too then will be perfect.
If it stays at 1000 cap heck I might go one time.
It is the wait and see some of us do not like .
Again I hope the my make lots of money and are around for a while. I am all for them getting as much money as they can.
Just
Not like if it takes away from things/benefits we are use to having with tickets and staying on property

If they offered the 3-4 hours with low crowds, (defined number) and access to all the major attractions, AND charged say.. $60 I would
be interested in park magic without crowds. Price is just too steep with not enough for your money. If you want time without people, stay for the kiss goodnight then wander a bit..they dont rush you to the front. (this of course doesnt include rides)

I really have no horse in this race, but usually when I see something new like this, I like to consider.

1. Who is benefiting from this change? (the answer is usually "rich people", lol)
2. Is that person me?
3. Can I change my vacation plans so I can benefit from this change?

I like the way you think, Disney Dad.

I just think the extreme hard feelings people seem to be harbouring towards Disney over this is over the top. Spend your vacation how you wish. Don't pay extra if you don't want to.

If you want to hate on Disney for their 2017 summer cruise prices.. I'm right there with you. But to me the $149 is a non issue. It's an option not a requirement.

Hi Kimberly,

Agree with almost everything. Insofar as I have feelings about the Extra Late Hours, my main concern is that they are coming at the expense of the EMH that are currently "free" (note the quotes) to guests staying on-property. I can't help but think these late-hour "parties" are meant to test the waters in regard to gradually eliminating resort EMHs.
