News Round Up 2016

My therapist says I should think "happy" when this comes up...like a Bob Ross painting...

I hope the defense grid/bucket brigade doesn't show up...I'm in a "fragile" state

"Let's paint a little happy tree over here"
Well I do have to admit he did evoke a tranquil feeling watching him lol

As a whole I try keep an open mind with Disney because I do understand it's not like it was when I was a kid, it isn't like it was for those before me and it's not going back to the good 'ole days most like to compare it to in their minds but that doesn't mean that at times my mind doesn't stray over to the pessimistic side for just a tiny amount of time.

That's funny, if you hated it why did you do the parties twice more? Too crowded and uncomfortable, isn't that any day at the parks?

Ahh...not the case my padawan...

Older "events" had far more limited sales and weren't at cutthroat prices...

...and incase I'm not being clear on the inference: I'm talking about the Halloween and Christmas parties.

The numbers were limited far lower in my day...and that wasn't something that sent Eisner into shaking monetary fits...like cash detox.

It was part of a bigger sales picture.

I know you are talking about Halloween and Christmas parties. Look I have never done either because I have never been at that time of the year. If those parties (which have lower attendance than a regular park day) are too crowded than how do you deal with a regular park day? Surely thats also crowded.

Personally I don't see a problem with the parties. I do see a problem with 20 different dessert parties, cabanas, and stuff like that.

I'm ok with "evolution"...I'm ok with a little "Revolution" now and again...

..."cannibalization" needs to be defeated like the sith (Star Wars reference time again!!)

I fear the mouse might be eating its young...

STOP talking/buying AHM...or whatever they called that overpriced train wreck.

If you have never gone to one and don't have a historical context...this might be where you might want to let this one just buzz the tower and ignore me.

Most things disney are gut/instinctual/experienced to the consumer...and that's why the disboards exist.

Thats possible but I still don't understand how a holiday party could be more crowded than a typical day that you were made to hate it. Some explanation there might help. I have been in July, August, and during Marathon weekend. In my 8 trips throughout my lifetime I have never found crowds to make me uncomfortable and so much so that I hated it.

It's definitely "something"...but hard to finger...

Those things are not very fun...it could be that there's unusual focus on SOME things...it's definitely the compressed time window...there's no "in and out" flow like there is all day during normal operation...few leave "early" like normal days...

Just not comfortable...and I'm not "bored" with it...really get excited and hope for an experience...just doesn't deliver.

But I've tried...I've paid...fully self funded...but it's not a good product for the price.

If there are cabanas in Star Wars land, I will be furious and complain every possible way I can until they drop this stupid idea

That's made up...

They wouldn't foot the bill to construct so much space in a capital project...but would be more than happy to jam them into older "dead space"

Actually Jim isn't the only place I've seen that from so I don't think it's "made up".

I disagree with this. How was it being shoehorned where it didn't fit? Jungle Book yes, that was shoehorned where it didn't fit with a weak concept but by no means is RoL being shoehorned where it doesn't fit. You also can't call the concept weak if you haven't seen it.

I never thought animal kingdom was the right environment to stage a "nighttime closing show"...it just doesn't seem right.

Not everything needs to have 10,000 staring at a spot with "let it go" looped into the speaker system.

And "rivers of light" gives me flashbacks to "tapestry of nations" for some reason...gives me the heebs...

See if done right I think it's an excellent place for a nighttime show.

I never saw tapestry of nations in person but I love the music.

You didn't miss much...

I thought they could have/should have fit the tree with lights of some type to do an "interactive" story about conservation...they could have run it at intervals at night at low
Cost to make it an "attraction" that wouldn't involve queue lines or disruption of the rest of the park...maybe even varied the content...no pyro or extra staff

But I'm Just spitballing

The tree does have a night time show in itself it's called the tree awakenings. It's all projections with lights in the leaves.

I believe the math works like this:
25,000 people spread out over 10 hours with some overlap, breaks for food and meals, etc. at any one time 15,000 people in park many "resting", a lot in ride lines, etc.

At a party there are 10,000 people on a mission to extract maximum value and experience, see characters, throw in a ride, watch fireworks and parade.

Whatever the magic sauce is and whatever the facts tell you - parties are WAY more uncomfortable than a busy day. I'm with LOL there.
