Yup. That was mean. Just plain mean.Just the word 'UPSTAGE' is all I need to see.....

Exactly, that sets the whole tone.
If the OP wanted to discuss interactions with CM, and/or his Disney trivia knowledge, there were better ways to go about that. Seeing that he has been around since 2009 I get the impression he knew exactly what was going to happen when he posted what he did.
My sister is a CM and I have absolutely no doubt that countless people know more Disney trivia than she does. Heck, even I do! She'd never been to WDW before starting work so her knowledge of any facts and trivia about the parks there is definitely limited.
There is no pop quiz on Disney trivia to be employed there. The CMs in no way purport to be experts in every aspect of the company.
I think she'd just walk away puzzled as to why it gave someone so much satisfaction to feel they'd 'upstaged' her. Either that or completely forget about you as just another annoying guest.
No, there is no "must pass Disney trivia" portion to the hiring system.I just assumed they honestly were given some kind of "test" to make sure they had quite a bit of Disney knowledge.
You should have been awarded a prize to commemorate the occasion. Perhaps the location could have been marked with a plaque.
I just checked to see if my guess for the population of the US was correct- I was off by 18 million. And I have a bachelor's degree! Oh well.
Exactly, that sets the whole tone.

Maybe because it really isn't important? Or at least the CM didn't consider it important.Years ago we were at the Kidstop area in the Canadian pavilion. My child was busy doing the craft and we were chatting with the CM who was from our city. Others stopped by and asked the population of Canada. He was off by like 10 million so I corrected him. Then I felt bad. But come on how can you be in University and not know the population of your country! And he was representing us.
Wow, OP, you sure got attacked! Not that I agree with what you did, (I don't) but seems like people are making it out to be far more than it was. I see people being so outright rude to CM's that this would just be an irritation to me, not deserve all the 'negatives' you've received.
Wouldn't be surprised if some of these posters might have actually been openly rude to a CM - have sure seen enough on the Dis complaining about 'rude, unfriendly' CM's to 'know' some people will complain about anything. Have seen parents jump on a CM because they're told their child wasn't tall enough to ride, etc.
Only on the Dis! Have to be 'very' careful about the threads you start - can get out of hand quickly!!
No, I never have. Wouldn't even think of it.Have you ever done this to a cast member that purports knowing a lot about Disney when they really don't know much at all?
No, there is no "must pass Disney trivia" portion to the hiring system.
Whether there is or there isn't the OP shouldn't feel good about making someone feel bad.
I am a bit surprised though that there isn't something; not a quiz exactly but something. I remember the first time I went to Disney as an adult and the bus driver was just full of Disney trivia (and I believe he was right on most of it, wouldn't have said anything if he wasn't). With that, and what we were told at Universal, I just assumed that they are expected to know a certain amount. Oh well, doesn't really matter a hill of beans, just find it curious.
How can you all be so brutal to me? It was an enjoyable experience, and there was even a little magic spread around that day. Frankly, I'm getting tired of so many negative responses to posts I make. All I'm doing is trying to make conversation with recollections about past trips. I don't need this type of aggravation.
Yikes, LB, I initially just read your reply and not the quoted post. I was thinking, 'what did I say, where?'Dan, maybe you should step back a moment and reread what you originally posted. Maybe you didn't intend to sound like a braggart know-it-all, but maybe that's how many people took it. And in that case, they may feel a bit compelled to try and knock you down a bit in their responses.

Could be that the CM had a major that didn't spend a lot of time on population numbers? I'm sure my son could give an estimate but he wouldn't be with 10 million. But ask a question about physics or advanced math, he's your guy.
Wow, that's a lot of assumption on your part. I doubt she felt bad. She probably clocked out, went home, and told her roommate all about the crazy day she had at work. I don't understand why you would purposely barrage the poor CM, trying to one-up her with "disney trivia". I'm sure she had actual work to do, but was being nice and humoring you.
It is the tone of the post.
I can tell you as an ex-CM that type of thing is the thing that gets laughed about backstage and doesn't affect your actual day. Now if the guest is being rude in their "knowledge" (there are some who does this not saying the OP was that way at all) they may be a little defeated. I wouldn't want someone coming into my job now and trying to upstage me and I hated it a lot as a CM too especially the grown adults that expected me to know every single episode of Phineus and Ferb because I worked at the attraction or would debate the way Perry's call music should be said.
Just the word 'UPSTAGE' is all I need to see.....
