Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part V!

I've been thinking about ordering a Goofy cake for older DS's 13th birthday in November. We'll be eating at Chef Mickey that night. (He loves Goofy--he has a development disability and is younger than his years; all the characters are still SO magical to him! :D )

Does anyone have Goofy cake pics to share?

When you order a cake and they charge it to the room, that just appears on your bill at the end of the trip right? Also, do they put it up anywhere on your online account details? (My account is linked with the birthday boy's and don't want him to see anything)

When we had one sent to the room, it was charged to the room and appeared on the bill. I didn't have anything about it in MDE or online.

It has been a few years since we ordered a cake. Back in the day, to be allowed to order the strawberries and custard filling the cake had to be a minimum of 10". Does anyone know if that is still true? Because we have thrown out A LOT of uneaten cake just to get the flavor combination we wanted. We are going in September, staying at AKL. We are celebrating DH's 50th birthday and our 25th anniversary, so I thought I would have a cake delivered either to Jiko or the room. If we have to do 10" we will, but I would prefer not!

From what I have seen, it is dependent on the bakery you order it from. We were able to customize a 6" with special flavors from the Contemporary Bakery (with an up charge)

Here's one from an older Cake Chatter Thread!

Hello!
I`m been following this thread for the last month and today I ordered my first disney custom cake! :dogdance:

My family and I are going to Disney World in may to celebrate my mother`s birthday.

We`ll stay at the bay lake resort. I sent an email with pictures to wdw.contemporary.cake.order@disney.com, and talked to Brian. He was very helpful, I wanted cake with classic WDW elements, like the castle, sorcerer mickey, epcot ball, fireworks...

In the end I ordered a 2 tier red velvet cake with cream cheese filling (8 and 6 inces) covered in blue fondant with stars piped on the side in a firework-like pattern. At the top a chocolate will be a imagem of cinderella castle and the other park icons flat on the sides of the cake. At the bottom a sorcerer mickey. To place my order I had to call 407-824-2955. I was a little scared because english is not my first langue and at this number they only speak english, but the person that talked to me as very kind and patient, so hopefully my cake will look good!

I asked for room delivery (9:30pm). My mothers birthday is on may 12, we will spend the day at Magic Kingdom, have lunch at cinderella royal table. The cake will be a surprise for when we get back to our room.

I was quoted 250 dollars for the cake, is quite expensive I know, but we don't celebrate birthdays at disney very often (we are from brazil!) so I decided to splurge a bit!

Can not wait to see the cake and my mothers face!

What's in the zebra dime cake from AKL? Do you think it can be prepared to accommodate a peanut allergy?

We ordered our Aulani vow renewal cake through our Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings planner, but you can just call the resort's Dining Department at 808-674-6330 to place your order.

Here are the standard cakes and a little bit of pricing info on custom cakes: https://resorts.disney.go.com/aulani-hawaii-resort/rooms-offers/in-room-options/gifts-surprises/

Here's our vow renewal cake. The design was based on our wedding china pattern. YMMV, but what we got tasted like dish sponges layered with butter. It was possibly the worst-tasting cake I’ve ever had, and certainly the worst Disney cake I’ve ever had. The cake was dry, dry, DRY, with nary a hint of the coconut flavor I'd requested. The frosting was like straight unsalted butter—no sweetness, no coconuttiness, no texture. I later learned that Aulani uses Chantilly buttercream instead of the sugary traditional buttercream used out at Walt Disney World. You’re not going to believe this, but the best-tasting part was the fondant—at least it was sweet!

We'll be in Orlando for my birthday in July and although we are not doing Disney parks, I have made a reservation at California Grill for my birthday dinner. I am ridiculously excited about this! I would like to order a birthday cake. Will the Contemporary do a 6" cake in "interesting" flavors for cake and filling, or just the chocolate/chocolate or vanilla/vanilla combination? I am thinking maybe red velvet with cream cheese filling or almond cake but not sure about filling (suggestions? fruit mousse or bavarian w/fresh berries?). Or white cake with the choc/pb filling. Anyhow... any chance the Contemporary team will do something like this, and deliver to CG?

Does anyone have any experience ordering a cake from Aulani?

I just got one in February. Their buttercream still isn't great but our cake was moist and flavorful and the fresh raspberries we added to the filling definitely helped.

That is AMAZING! Oh, I'm definitely going to have to do this.

Any thoughts on whether it would be better to have it delivered to dinner at Chef Mickey or to our room at Art of Animation? I figured at Chef Mickey the characters might get involved. :)

Sorry. Did a little more reading. Definitely going to work on getting one at Chef Mickey!

Yes, we ordered one for our dinner at CG in June. They do "interesting" flavors in a 6" for an upcharge. We ordered chocolate peanut butter :)

Okay. I've left multiple messages on the Animal Kingdom cake line Friday and Monday. I called the direct number and went through the general cake line, but nobody is calling back. Any ideas?

Call the main number for Animal Kingdom (which will take you to a general switchboard) and explain what is happening. Hopefully you will get a cast member who is helpful enough to track down a real person for you: (407) 939-5277

It looks like the cake is quite overbaked as well? Look how dark the edging around the sponge is!

I'm wanting to order a Haunted Mansion theme custom cake. Which resorts or parks are linked to a bakery that will do this theme? Is it only available in restaurants serviced by Contemporary or Grand Floridian bakeries? I'm flexible on restaurant locations for the birthday meal but really need a Haunted Mansion cake! Do any do the figurine with the Hitchhiking Ghosts?
We got the flat image on our cake this past September at Chef Mickey's (it didn't photograph well but the sides are the haunted mansion purple wallpaper).
