Pop Century Room Renovations

Check in 8/26. Standard Pool view. Only thing I requested on online check in was 80's and TA called and put in a request of a refurb room. Will see what we end up with.

See you there, we check in two days before. We called and asked for an 80's or 90's room, should be ok I would think.

I know my parents have had a king room on the 4th floor in buildings 2, 4 and 9. None of them had a connecting door.
So if I don't want connecting room ( unless it's connecting to my friends room) I should ask for 4th floor? We didn't put in request for connecting room, will just be happy to be in rooms close by. We have our res linked as traveling together.

Not necessarily. There are the same number of connecting rooms on each floor in each building. 1,440 rooms (half) connect, there are 720 connecting doors.

There are 6 of us going and checking in on September 11 (8 weeks from today). It's my girlfriend and her four kids. Are we guaranteed connecting rooms? Standard Rooms, also.

Starting to think we'll be requesting the 90's when we go in December, try and make it a shorter walk to the buses while being in renovated rooms.

Hoping y'all get the rooms you want :)

I don't know.. Have you ever been skiing?? sometimes we have waited a while... my only concern are all scooters ACV? things... THIS will hold things up... Most are rentals so people have issues getting on the buses.. and they are not moving. Plus are they going to lock each wheelchair in etc... if every 2nd gondgola stops for these... dear God......it'll be faster to walk

I'm guessing that it will actually be more like the old skyride than a ski-lift. With ski-lifts each chair is actually "permanently" clamped to the wire. This is necessary because the lift is at a very steep angle. In the old Skyride style each cars rests on the wires, and uses friction (metal-to-metal, metal-to-rubber, etc) to keep the car moving. This is dooable because the lift angle is much shallower. In this latter style, when the cars enter the station they actually come off of the wire and onto a metal track. I'd be willing to bet that they will actually have a double track (one for people needing assistance (ACV, wheelchairs, etc) and one for everyone else. Then then would merge the "assistance" cars into the main track before "attaching" it back to the wire. This would allow them to give those needing assistance as much time as they needed without impacting anyone else.

With two adults, you aren't guaranteed connecting rooms, it's only a request. If they can't accommodate you, you'll have to split and put one adult in each room with up to 3 kids.

Then again the skylift may not be able to handle the extra weight of an ACV. Maybe a wheelchair.

Hi, sorry I haven't read all 110 pages. Is there a current update on the refurbishments, how far along they are?

I have a preferred room ressie for next month but I think I'd like to change to a refurbed room.

TIA

:) I've been trying to track it. So far here is what I've been able to put together

Building 8, 90's, started renovation on 6 March, opened on 8 June (~renovation time 94 days)
Building 9, 80's, started renovation early May, scheduled to open 24 July (~renovation time 80 days)
Building 7, 80's, started renovation early June, scheduled to open 14 August (~renovation time 70 days)

No other buildings have been started but guestimating building 10 will be next and should be started in the need week or two, with building 6 being 4-6 weeks behind it.

It appears that they are getting faster as they get more familar with what they need to do.

I am guessing that by the end of October they will be finished with 10 and 6 (the 70's buildings) and will be working on 4 and 5.

EDIT: Fixed the open date of bldg 8

If the gondola can't manage the weight of an ECV, Disney will have to continue to provide bus service. Reassurance for those with fear of heights :). I can't see them not being able to handle that amount of weight. If each car holds eight and the average adult weighs 150 pounds, that's a half ton. Granted, fewer guests may be put in a car with an ECV, but each could handle at least one additional guest.

Due to people with a fear of heights is not an insignificant number they will have to continue to provide bus transportation anyway. Maybe I've missed something, but was it announced that the new Gondola is going to be the ONLY WDW transportation to Studios and Epcot?

If you look at this article, photos and videos ... these are not large cars. I think they might be able to hold an ECV but it looks like it will be so tight you may only get another person on there if it's not too long.

There is an article all about what they think it will be.

Makes sense and the pictures of them look like renderings, especially the seats.

I'm surprised that there is so much negative feedback on new transportation like the gondola and Minnie car.
Isn't more options of travel in park a good thing?
I probably won't pay to use the Minnie Vans but think they're cute and take nothing away from other guests, so more power to them.

The gondolas are different. I think some are afraid Pop and AoA will have a big price increase with the added transportation option. And they're afraid there might not be bus service for those who can't tolerate the lack of A/C or are afraid of heights.

There are connecting rooms on every floor of every building -- basically there are 6 connecting rooms on each "hallway". The first room after the elevator/center of the building is a single room (each floor, each "hallway"). The next 6 rooms are 3 sets of connecting rooms. The remaining 5 rooms on the "hallway" are non-connecting rooms. The variable is whether or not one of the connecting rooms in the "set" is a king room or not.

Building 8, 90's, started renovation on 6 March, opened on 5 May (~renovation time 94 days)
Building 9, 80's, started renovation early May, scheduled to open 24 July (~renovation time 80 days)
