Wonder how they'll spin this one.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/officer-partner-fired-fatal-shot-moments-loud-sound-051017189.html

Officer Noor has refused to be interviewed.

I would think that a police officer who felt he was justified in his shooting of an unarmed civilian would want to explain just why he did it. I guess he has something to hide.

Based on everything we do know, I think he was in the wrong. That said, I would think any smart lawywer would tell an officer in such a situation to zip it and not be interviewed--innocent or not.

I don't understand why everything has to be so either /or in these situations. It seems like people are in the "Police are evil/ Police are saints" category, when really, there are many, many police officers that are wonderful at their jobs. There are also a small percentage of officers that should not be wearing a badge. And sometimes there are good officers that make a bad mistake. It takes just one social justice warrior to spin a story to fit an agenda and get a whole nation of sheep to believe them. Whatever happened to critical thinking and independent thought?

Exactly. I support the police, but not in all cases. This one in particular. A loud noise had him on edge, so he shoots (across his partner) at the first person he sees. No assessing the threat, nothing.

I hope he sits for a LONG time in jail.

What a sad story,

Yeah...OK, don't call 911. Yeah, OK. Love how people armchair bash the police. Spend just one day in their shoes. Just one. Not saying they have free license to do what they want when they want, but it makes me sick when people make broad generalizations about the very people who's job it is to protect you. Just like with any walk of life, there will be bad ones...problem is the "bad" gets magnified.

If you're in a car accident, get robbed, assaulted, etc...I presume you'll just handle it yourself since you think you shouldn't call 911.

Growing up my home was broken into twice and we didn't call the cops either time. My mother just told us to clean up our things and move on. It was just known that the police didn't help people like "us" so we dealt with things on our own. I came to this conclusion from things I've witnessed firsthand with my own eyes. I can say in my 34 years I have never called the cops. I don't think all cops are bad but I try to stay away from cops as much as possible.

The cop was wrong. I have a feeling this pretty, young white woman shot by a black cop will get justice. Justice that others, who I believe, were also innocently shot haven't received.

What happened to the DIS cops are always right crowd? Surely they are all tripping over themselves to defend this officer.

We all know that cop HAD to have been afraid of that woman. Really, if a cop was afraid of preteen boy with a toy gun, or a bikini wearing, unarmed 14 year old year old girl, then it isn't a reach to think this cop was afraid of a full grown 40 year old woman.

I wonder how solid that blue wall of silence will be in this case

Exactly. This thread has a completely different vibe.

The officer is under no obligation to be interviewed.
"I" wouldn't be interviewed.
There are probably murder charges here.
And, in this case, it appears that this would be justified.

Being interviewed has absolutely no bearing on guilt or innocence.

In fact, I would support gag orders here.

A statement might be nice. (NO INTERVIEW) Something to the effect of... "I am deeply saddened by the tragic incident(s) that let to the death of Justine Maia Ruszczyk... An innocent person has lost their life, and my sincerely apologies/thoughts/prayers go out to her family and loved ones. This is an ongoing investigation, so I am unable to discuss any further details at this time."

We, as the media and drama obsessed public, have no right to expect anything at this time. It is not up to us to be the jury.
It bothers me that those, with possible agendas on both sides, seem to feel otherwise.

This is what we know....
It has been stated that there were no bodycams activated.
It has now been stated that there was some 'noise', a loud sound, that startled the officers.
It has now been stated that BOTH officers had less than two years on the force.

All three of these things really bother me!!!!
1. No question that both of these officers should have, by policy and mandate, turned on their cams.
2. A loud noise does not, in any way, mean that one, even a police officer, should shoot and kill anyone!!!!!
3. IMHO, if this is a night patrol, and officers are paired up, shouldn't that indicate that one officer should have more tenure on the force??? What we had here seems like two rookies.

It seems clear that nothing here was 'okay', or justified.

I think there is a large amount of pessimism involved with people who don't trust any police at all. But the argument "not all cops are like this" when we are talking about an incident isn't helpful, either. Yes, not all cops are like this.

Does that mean there isn't a problem in the profession.

Obviously there is a serious problem in our police departments. Citizens shouldn't be afraid of the police, yet there's a significant portion of the population that is. There's a problem with police administrations where this kind of stuff happens. Like @rickybobby said about teachers: they aren't all perverts, but when you find out a teacher who had issues with students in the past gets hired in a different district, that's a problem in the industry. Pedophiles priests that can shipped overseas: that's a problem in the industry. Unarmed civilians (or legally armed civilians who haven't drawn their weapon) getting killed by the police: that's a problem with the industry. Doctors who work 26 hours straight and then make a mistake that costs a patient their life: That's a problem in the industry.

^THIS!

Is it really so surprising that there might actually be those 'on that side', who would actually support an officer being held accountable when it seems to be an actual crime.
Seriously?

There are some cases that I thought an actual crime was committed where many people dug their heels in and defended the cops to no end. So yes IMO this thread has a completely different vibe.

Of course....
Some people will feel that it is a crime any time an officer fires their weapon while they are doing their job. Feel that it is always a racist motivated 'murder' or police brutality.

They also seem to be the ones who say 'the other side' will always defend.
That was my point.
Does this thread surprise them... Prove them wrong...

That is why I said 'some people'!

And, I do think my point is valid.
Very much so.
The very title of this thread makes the assumption that 'they' will spin this thing to absolve a law enforcement officer of a very clear crime.

There are some cases that I thought an actual crime was committed where many people dug their heels in and defended the cops to no end. So yes IMO this thread has a completely different vibe.
I am probably in that camp... But I'd like to think I look at every side of these situations.

THIS one has a different tone because without much more information who could defend it? I mean... Someone could but they wouldn't sound very smart.

But, that is the thing... People with an agenda and prejudice are not always rational or smart.
There are a few posts here!
Riiiiight... But we were discussing how the tone of this thread versus other, seemingly similar threads is different. Seems like most people are being pretty rational no matter where they stand on THIS particular story.

I think some people have more of a problem with the blanket statements made by the OP regarding American law enforcement.

What happened to the DIS cops are always right crowd? Surely they are all tripping over themselves to defend this officer.

But when one seems to notice (be surprised enough to notice) the 'tone' of this thread....
It is the many comments like this, from page one, leading all the way thru to the 'tone' comment, that come to my mind.

If there are those who are so surprised, then, is the tone of this thread not proving them wrong.
