Pop Century Room Renovations

I've heard the same rumor, but not sure how that will work with the considerable room size differences (value 260 sq ft, moderate 314, deluxe ~400).
Exactly what I was thinking. A value room will always be a value room no matter how you dress it up. Can't change room size or resort decor without major structural changes. Values lack the charm, landscaping and amenities of the moderates.
I'm looking forward to my stay at Pop, but I'm not expecting it to be POR.

In your opinion does it look like they are going to keep that narrower opening during construction? I like getting a room at POP near the bridge so we can go to AoA for meals, but if we can't walk over there, I'd rather be near transportation. Thanks for your reports after your recent stay :goodvibes

We stayed at Wilderness Lodge last year and I was very apprehensive about our stay at Pop. The refurbished rooms made a huge difference in our stay. True you can't dress up the resort but I would not hesitate staying at Pop again with the new room layouts now. We actually took a DVC tour of Copper Creek while we were there and they kept on pointing out amenities in the DVC room that had been incorporated into the new Pop rooms (higher beds to push luggage under, all of the UBS ports, etc).

Thank you. I seem to find something to enjoy no matter where I stay. Since this trip I don't have to share my room, traveling with a friend and we have our own rooms. I'm looking forward to hopefully getting a new room!
I'm just saying WDW by removing categories doesn't change the fact it's still a value resort in room size, resort amenities, etc.

Any thoughts on when preferred rooms might start to be finished? I have a preferred room booked in November, Queen beds sure would be nice.

We stayed there around 2012 and liked it very much except the fact that to reach your room it had that motel feel to it. Other than that the lobby and pool were very nice. A remodeling should be welcomed.

All the values except AoA Suites AND all the moderate rooms (until CSR tower is built) are exterior MOTEL style rooms. You would have to bump to deluxe (other than exceptions listed) to get interior halls. For many not worth that price.

Understood, and that's why we never stayed in value ever again. We stayed Deluxe after that. We stayed at the Grand Floridian club level until I bought DVC at the Grand Floridian Villas in 2014. In two weeks We are staying at the Poly for the first time!

Looks like bldg 10 will be the first to have refurbished preferred rooms. Work on it just started last week. My wild guess is first week of November for it to open.

I'm kind of weird: the first time I stayed "non-deluxe," I wasn't sure I would like the exterior "motel" doors - but I actually like them better than long, winding interior corridors - but only at WDW. I still would not stay at a typical motel on the interstate.

I got home from my trip this morning. I stayed in a refurbished room in 90s on the 1st floor.

I feel like I should mention that it took me less than 5 minutes to walk to the Magic Kingdom bus stop from my room. I love staying in Preferred rooms, but given that building theming didn't mean so much to me this time around, a 4 minute walk to dining and transportation felt very, very preferred to me!

I agree. It's because outside at a DW resort, it's paradise, so I have no problem "having" to walk outside in paradise when I leave my room. As opposed to Motel 6, outside is most likely the ghetto. lol

I'm not saying they will all be the same price, but I am saying that the difference in price will be a lot closer in the future. Instead of a difference of a couple hundred bucks per night. I'm sure Pop will stay cheaper, but all of the room changes coupled with new amenities like the in-room dining just added (and a gondola stop on the way) will bring the price up closer to the Moderates. And I bet you'll see Disney stop using the classifications in print.

Thanks! This would be perfect for us as I was hoping for 50's anyway because I want to be near the parking lot because we use our car a lot while we're there.

Does anyone who uses TP frequently know, or have heard how/when they will update the room finder? Last time I played around in it the reno had just started but now that we have two buildings open, with a third hopefully on its way completing the section, and a new section starting their work - I am curious

Today is also my 4 months out so I am in Disney mode more than usual :earboy2:

I would email them directly. I find Len to be very helpful and responds to inquiries quickly. He'd be the best one to know when they will update their site.

Got a room in bldg 8! Got off the plane a little after 9, received my room ready text while on the airport shuttle, stopped at the desk to decline housekeeping, and am in my room now.

When I originally did online checkin I had placed my usual requests of lake view, top floor. Was unable to override that online, and a phone call to change them was not comforting, so I faxed on Friday asking them to ignore my previous requests and assign me a refurbished room if possible. Worked out!

Very good news-looks like they "may" not have to close Generation Gap Bridge at all during the construction.:)

Oh, heck, I hope so! I'm just seeing this, and we've been booked for about a year. My DH, sons and I are staying in an AOA Nemo suite in late October/early November and my parents are staying at Pop Century, preferred room.

We booked that set-up specifically to give them a little space but have them be close by. The plan is for them to walk over each morning and we all leave together; reverse in the evening. A closed bridge would be horrible! Do anyone know anything more?

I don't see this as working, maybe it's just me, but if price is close I'll pick the moderate. I appreciate the new nicer rooms at Pop, but rooms are still tiny, buildings are still cinderblocks lacking the charm of moderates, or the beautiful themed landscaping, and peacefulness. If price is close I see no reason (for me) to pick a value.
I choose a value for cost saving.

Don't forget that you and I (and the rest of us on the boards) aren't the common WDW visitor. Most would probably not notice the real differences until check-in.
