Don't get logical now!:-)

Seriously - there 20-something other places people can stay that won't allow dogs. This isn't the end of the world. Dogs were already allowed at Disney Springs and FW. Now they're allowed in a few resorts in select areas. As long as Disney takes precautions, it should eventually be ok. I do hope that Disney accommodates the people that need to change their reservations because of the new policy. The lack of notice was completely unfair.

Will the dogs stay in the areas designated for them, I predict no. Dogs at the Yacht Club will be walked on the Broadwalk and on the beaches. Past none dog friendly resorts. Can you guarantee dogs at Yacht Club will stay on Yacht Club property only. No Can you guarantee people at AOA will not walk their dogs across the bridge to none dog friendly POP. No. Two of our favourite resorts are Beach Club and Pop and I see nothing but problems with dogs being on non dog friendly resort property.

People dread this policy? Seems about 25 people on one board dread this policy-not even a drop in the bucket for Disney. My guess for every person Disney looses over this policy they gain two. Every Disney policy has detractors yet they keep setting record level attendance. Heck people on this board keep lamenting that there are no slow times anymore.
You mean 966 as of right now. :rolleyes1

Not a fan either.....If they are moving forward with this I think they should make dog-only buildings, and make them the furthest buildings from the lobby area. I saw somewhere else that someone suggested they make a dog-only hotel and have it be 101 Dalmatian themed.

I actually think that this is a great idea. In Denver and Seattle they do bark at the park nights where dogs are allowed into Coors and Safeco Fields for the MLB games (I also think Petco Field in San Diego has a dedicated dog section every game) If ball parks with 50000+ fans can manage having dogs at the park I'm sure Disney can manage. I think a special ticket event in Epcot could be an awesome place for dogs and their people, lots of places to walk and explore.

Thanks for the imput all-I think I'll use the contact info you all have provided and e-mail my support for a Dog-Days of winter at Epcot.
Fl is not Seattle or Denver...nor is WDW a game. I think even people that have service dogs would not be happy if that happened.

I dunno, 966 people so far voted don't allow this policy in this thread's poll, that's more than 25. With 85% of a poll of 1,100+ people not liking it, I can't imagine that most of the general Disney public will love it either.

One more thing to add....I have nothing personal to say since I don't know anyone deathly allergic to dogs, but I can justify some parents becoming freaked out over this. Some people are deathly allergic to dogs and any sort of cross contamination is lethal. Disney didn't release a lot of info regarding whether the dog-friendly rooms would be in separate buildings or they would just interchange rooms....So at least I understand the panic and I think people who are insensitive to this should put this in consideration.

So this makes me think about WET DOGS. Lots and lots of WET DOGS at WDW Resorts. (Not that it ever rains in Orlando) Do you suppose Disney will come up with a rule stating how many hours per day all of those wet dogs are allowed to smell bad? Probably 7 hours?
And the towels they are going to use to dry the animals. I really dont want to use a towel that has been used to dry/clean off an animal.

Anyone read DisneyTouristBlog's article on the refurbishment at Yacht Club?: "Note: If you’re wondering why the sheets aren’t discolored, the furniture is not trashed, and there’s not feces spread over every inch of the walls, it’s because we were here before Yacht Club became a post-apocalyptic canine wasteland. Now that Yacht Club is dog-friendly, we can only assume it looks like a worse version of Parkside Hotel & Suites now. Walt is rolling in his grave."

And I find this is very typical. I board with my vet & it’s known for being the best in the area & I’m often dissatisfied. Most ppl working there are kids b/c it’s a minimum wage job. They often don’t listen to my requests & my dogs come home with upset stomach. I do it now b/c I have young dogs that bounce back ok. But I used to struggle with this when I had an older dog with problems. My old dog died of pancreatitis & the episode that killed him basically started by the kids that work at the vet not feeding him the special food they were supposed to feed him. Now, I understand he’s not a human like ppl have pointed out, but it was still devastating to loose a pet you have loved for 16 years! That’s a long time! The death of some of my pets over the years has been more upsetting to me than losing some distant relatives.
Amen!

As are maybe 5-10 people who support it.
To be fair as a whole this thread hasn't been very welcoming towards those who do support it. It's very possible had the thread remained on a much more neutral or less strong negative reactions towards people who may wish to bring their dog with them or see it in a more positive light, those who support it may feel more comfortable in speaking out.

I am a huge animal lover, but I am adamantly against this due to allergies, noise, cleanliness, etc. There's excellent pet care available on property so this seems to be totally unnecessary given how many people are clearly against it. I called Disney to voice my concerns as well and moved an upcoming reservation away from YC. The cast member indicated many people had been calling to move resorts.

:welcome: To DISboards!

Well, the poll is anonymous. That is really what we are talking about. Those numbers don't lie. When you click on this thread most people will vote first without being swayed either way. There are obviously more people on this thread who are against it.

Okay, so this doesn't entirely make sense to me, but I got a call back about the email I sent this evening regarding the dog free locations and their proximity to the dog relief areas at POR. I will say they are definitely taking these complaints seriously it seems, as the CM who called me this morning contacted POR and got back to me within just a few hours tonight.

What they told her (from someone at POR) was that the location near Building 15 was put in just because it was a large grassy area with the room to accommodate dogs. She said dogs might be visible from Building 15 but they shouldn't be walking around in the preferred building area. She also said the one near Building 95 is a small area and not expected to get much use as they would have to walk a bit of a distance to get there from the dog friendly rooms. No idea why they bothered putting it there then unless they expect a high volume of dogs? But she assured me the actual rooms in both buildings will not be used to accommodate pets ONLY service dogs as all rooms do.

She said that if I wanted to be away from the dogs in the preferred section that they would place me in a building other than 15.

Of course this led me to the question of, are the dogs allowed to just roam the entire resort? To which she responded with an very emphatic no, absolutely not. She said if I was taking any of the paths away from the dog friendly rooms, walking along the river as an example, I should not be encountering any dogs. She also said that if I did see dogs in these areas that I am encouraged to report it to a CM.

Awesome, definitely what I want to hear, but it just confuses me a little as to how the dogs are supposed to get to the relief areas by 95 and 15 if they aren't allowed to walk around the resort? Maybe they are assuming all dogs will be small enough to carry?

Anyhow, the CM was extremely nice and definitely trying to be helpful and find the correct answers. I'm just not sure the higher ups planned this out all that well. It also seems as if they want to be helpful when I go to book next month in assisting us in finding what I'm looking for if the dog thing seems to be hindering my options. Again, very nice to hear and we'll see if it pans out.

I'm hopeful that Disney reaching out so quickly to address these issues with unhappy guests has an effect in the long run and isn't just a short term reaction, but only time will tell.
