*** The Official August 2018 Thread*** - let's have some fun....

I put in my request to join too. Although I will admit I do Facebook very infrequent. I rarely post and feel like everyone is judging you. I am in a few private cloth diaper groups and do participate in those. I enjoy the dis much more because I feel like a community of like minded, kind, welcoming people.

Melissa
And you are in as well. This facebook group will consist of my own family, and members of the DIS here, there should be no judging or other nastiness and if any should occur, I will deal with it promptly :)

On a whim, I was scanning over everyone's dates, and it looks like there is a pretty big group that will be in the parks during the week of August 19. It will be interesting to see how park days line up. Could there be an August 2018 DIS mini meet in the future?

We are trying to figure out our next trip and are seriously considering late August. We have never been in the summer but when trying to narrow it down between hot or crowded - we think we would prefer hot... Hoping for FD late August to seal the deal.

Here are two of the shirts we made for our 2017 trip.
Great shirts!

Hey there!! We are in for August this year - the 1st to 7th (then flying to DL to surprise the kids and give me my dream trip!!) The past few years we've gone in November, then before that were a few Julys and end of Septembers. August is a new time but I'm ready to be there during non holiday time (although going Thanksgiving this past year was beautiful with all of the decorations and storytellers!). As of now the plan is back at POP - loved the renovated rooms!! It's me, DH and DD (will be 10!) and DS who will be 8!

I think you will find early August to be quite similar to July, or at least, that has been my experience.

I will add, there is always at least the threat of a hurricane or tropical storm too, but don’t let it get to you. We had one threaten in 2015, but it did not hit Orlando at all. I was so worried it would ruin things, but nada. You are going for two weeks so you will probably see a mix of both mid-afternoon showers and mostly heat, heat, heat. But the pools and waterparks feel amazing. Take midday breaks from the parks, really, you will thank me for that tip.

Sorry for the late response, I don't get any notifications for this thread even thought its a watched thread  We're preparing for rain and heat, we are just thrilled to be going back and will take whatever mother nature throws at us. Two weeks at Disney in the rain is better than two weeks at work in the sun!

Ok so we are in for 8/18 - 8/25.

I just saw your trip report title dizneeat - I definitely see telling my kids 'some people are worth melting for' when I am melting in Disney lol

I already started making a list of pro's for going in the summer -
Packing - I don't have to pack layers, hot is hot.
Car ride - no need to wear our sneakers/boots than switch to flip flops when we hit warm states. Flip flops for the whole trip. Makes rest stops easier too with no jackets needed. Oh and no driving out of or into a blizzard/ ice storm.
Water parks - Both will be open!

I think that is it for now, but I am really *warming up* to the thought of a summer Disney vaca :cool2:

Thank you. It took us a couple of years making them to get to the point where they turn out that good, but it was well worth the effort.
I can only imagine! My daughter made some once for a sports competition and it was not as easy as she thought it would be! I showed her your picture and at first she said "We should make some for our trip!" and then quickly changed her mind LOL!!

I might be interested, big might though. I would need references if you have done this before. I was part of a group in 2015 that initially got burnt by someone that pocketed our $$. We got it back through Pay Pal, and some of us regrouped again, but...

Any thought about starting a spin off Facebook group for August? We had one in 2015 that blended into a 2016 group, it was so fun and a perfect way to share info more fluidly, share pictures, etc.

I just found out that I'm going to have to push my vacation to mid-September. Just to let you know that I won't be participating in the Aug Memory Maker. Good luck to all of you guys! Happy Vacation!

That's what I figured and thinking back the one year we were there until August 3 or 4 so pretty much the same time. It was back in 2013 when we took a last minute trip planned in two weeks before DH started his new job.

If you are inclined to give it a try, I can give you some pointers :)

This is our mentality...heat or crowds, but not both lol late August is great, and is when we take most of our trips

I think the heat is manageable if you are prepared. We enjoyed our afternoon breaks at the pool, waterparks, etc. We also would freeze a couple bottles of Smart water overnight and take those into the parks with us, plus a squirted fan that we picked up from Walgreens before our trip. Lots of Neutrogena SPF 70 sunscreen for the faces, tank tops, mostly sandals/flip flops (Teva Mush for me) and 2 waterpark days. We had FD for late August in 2015, I want to say that came out in April? SUPER low crowds - our Epcot day was a 1 out of 10, and there were literally only a handful of people in world showcase when it opened! Hoping it will be similar.
