Were at the airport preparing to head home. We had a great trip, although definitely had some issues at Pop. That being said, I would still stay there on our next trip because the price is right. It was just the 2 of us, and we experienced both a refurbished and an older room. As mentioned previously, we had issues with check-in, and with a toxic odor in our room, which caused the room change mid trip from 80s to 50s. We were in each room for 4 nights. Our thoughts:
- space: the old room was a king room. The new room was a queen room. We left the Murphy bed up the whole time, but it still felt tight, especially between the bed and the wall
- storage: the bathroom storage in the new room was great, and we don’t use much hanging space, so it worked for us. But we liked the extra drawer space in the old rooms. I also loved the space for snacks near the coffee maker in the new room.
-bathrooms: this is where the new rooms shine. We had the soap dispensers (which we prefer) and a standup shower (also preferred). The old room bathroom was much tighter. It was difficult to shut the door without being too close to the toilet. The shower heads in the new rooms are also much nicer.
- beds: the new beds are so much more comfortable. They also have much nicer pillows. The pillows in the old rooms are flatter
- floors: our floors in the new room appeared lighter than some of the photos I’ve seen. We had no issues with cleanliness in the new room. The old room had the distinct odor of feet and wet carpet. It was pretty gross.
- location: holy cow the 80s are far. We were in building 7, with a lake view by the stairs. That walk was really far. We are people that generally prefer to walk, but it really wore on us. We also appeared to be the only adults in the building, completely surrounded by the 15 groups. That being said, they weren’t as noisy as I expected. All we really heard were doors opening/closing and toilets. The toilets are the same in the old rooms. The doors were louder as I think they were coming and going more. It really wasn’t bad though. In the 50s, we were in building 1, and the walk was great. We were on the ground floor and it wasn’t too noisy.
Housekeeping- we skipped housekeeping, although they still came a few times and refreshed towels and made our bed. We saw them in the walkways a few times and handed off our trash/towels to ask for new ones
Security check- we had one issue with the security check. We were only in the room one day when it happened. They came at 8:25. We had just woken up and I was in the shower. They knocked and my husband told them we were still here and to come back later. They kept knocking so he cracked the door (in his undies). They asked if everyone was decent, he said no. She said she needed to do a quick room check and walked in (with him in his underwear!). She walked all the way to the bathroom area. Luckily I had closed the door, which doesn’t always happen. He was taken aback (I forgot to warn him...oops) and said next time he would have kept the door closed more so they couldn’t push in. I understand the need, but they need to work on execution. He was pretty embarrassed to be standing there half naked.
Again, overall it was a good trip. The parks were great. For our next trip, we’ll look at our offsite options a bit more but we likely won’t be able to beat that price.
