WOW! SO much went wrong here!!! Hope they can quickly get it ironed out and get the money back in your account. So sorry this happened! :(

She was at Disney at the time and they charged their cards for charges made using their MagicBands part way through their trip.

I read “they charged us 3 days early” as they charged their room reservation charge 3 days before arrival. Is that not what happened?

Has anyone else had issues with the resort charging you, your room charges early? We were planning to use gift cards we purchased prior to the trip (for gas perks) and the resort charged us (not our card on file either!) 3 days early. It’s caused a huge mess, and basically the resort telling us they can charge us our charges whenever they want and use whatever card, regardless if it’s our designated card or not.

Many, many reports of this going back at least a year. Once they upped the limits to $1000, $1500 and $2000 if a guest had a high amount of charging in a short period they would run the card on file. For example, if stauing Value and you charge $650 in the first 2 days of a week long trip they'll run the card. This isn't publicized and WDW won't say what the magic number is to trigger them running the card. That's why you'll see people all over the DIS recommending stopping by the Front Desk or Concierge Desk every couple days if wanting to use Gift Cards.

No. They were already at Disney for their vacation. They were using their MagicBands for purchases. Disney charged the amount that they had spent to their credit card part way through their trip.

When I checked in I had cash plus a couple of gift cards that I intended to use towards our initial purchases, tips, etc. When we were checking in I had them put this money onto my account so ran a credit for the first half of my trip or so. Saved me stopping by Guest Services and also took away the concern that they would charge my cc before I had a time to give them the gift cards.

It was nice to see the credit when I checked MDE...but it's Disney and that credit wasn't there for long! :rolleyes1

Ahh makes sense! Thank you :)

Wow, they stopped the ability to do this about 5-6 years ago. 99% of the time when I ask to do this I get turned down. Hopefully they're going back to their old ways.

This was just last month so hopefully you're right and they're going back to allowing it. Makes a lot of sense, especially with the new electronic gift cards for skipping mousekeeping!

I hope so too. They did have valid reasons for stopping it. Guests would put down a gift card, not use the whole amount and either lose or throw out the gift card. Now resort has no way to refund what was not spent as it had to go back on the card used. People would put down thousands in cadh, not use it all and if say The Grand Floridian had 300 guests checking out any given day that needed $1000 cash for unused room credit, well just do the math. :rotfl2:

LOL - A first world problem that I cannot relate to! :P

Also random tidbit. The CM that was wonderful and helped us said the “limits” were for max spent during a trip. I asked him how that was possible, my Dad met a man that was here for two weeks from Canada, I have a hard time believing he isn’t spending more than $1000 during his 2 week stay.

Maybe they have a dining plan and ate breakfast in their room. We really hardly spend anything out of pocket once we get to the parks. I set aside budgets for the kids for souvenirs on their own gift cards and we have a dining plan that includes snacks, grocery delivery to our room, and there just isn’t much we have left to pay for.

ETA- I take that back, we do pay for our TS meals. But I also put away gift cards for those months ahead, I don’t charge to the room.

I need you to teach me your ways when we come back lol. We spend so much when we’re here I think it’s the MBs and not really feeling like we’re spending! That’s why we decided to do GCs this time to kind of “control” how we’re spending. We also spend a lot more this trip cause we paid for my Dad to eat quite a bit, which we normally would only be paying for the two of us.

Plan, budget, and set it aside on gift cards ;-) I have one for each Ts meal with a little more than we need, labeled with a sharpie what it’s for. I like to have everything paid for ahead of time. We don’t even buy water in the park, we bring reusable bottles and refill them with free ice water.

How do you manage to get to WDW so often during college? I'm asking because my eldest will start this fall and I'm having a heck of a time figuring out future family vacations with her schedule. Do you take shorter trips?
This is a shorter trip. I also usually go on breaks. So in January it was winter break, my March trip is spring break, and this is a long weekend in November for the Wine and Dine half marathon. This November trip will be my first while school is actually in session. I also live at home so I don't have to worry about dorms or off campus living situations.

Gotcha, thanks! Have a great trip!
