A Black Panther theme park ride is in the works, Bob Iger, chief executive of the Walt Disney Co. hinted on Monday.

Iger mentioned the news to a room full of Wall Street analysts while speaking at Morgan Stanley’s Technology, Media and Telecom Conference in New York.

“No, we haven’t had a chance to build a ride,” he said. “Though I’m sure there are people who are working on it.”

Marvel Studio’s Black Panther continues to dominate box offices since its release, becoming the studio’s third-highest grossing release of all-time domestically, behind The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. It is no surprise that the multinational conglomerate is trying to cash in on the hype.

He called the film “an important moment in culture” and noted that fans line up for about an hour at Disneyland, just to meet the Black Panther character.

“I pretty much guarantee that this coming Halloween and even Christmas, you know you’ll be seeing a lot of Black Panther merchandise,” Iger said.

He also said Black Panther will become Disney’s 12th billion-dollar franchise.

Iger also revealed that he expects his company to get regulatory approval of its $52.4 billion acquisition of most of the assets of 21st Century Fox and that his company will use some of Fox’s content for the launch of a Netflix-like streaming service, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

When Disney’s Over The Top (OTT) service launches next month, it will have less content than Netflix but Iger said it will have more branded content from Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar. The Avengers movie, Toy Story 4, the next Frozen, Aladdin, and Dumbo are among the titles that will exclusively stream on the service. It will also have 5,000 episodes of Disney-branded TV, library movies and as many as five original shows and five original movies, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The company is also launching a similar service for ESPN that will feature narrow offerings so consumers can purchase passes to every game played by a certain team, every game in a sport or every game in a particular season.

Your link isn’t working and some of the info mentioned isn’t entirely correct.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm really tired of ALL these superhero movies. It seems like they keep making the same movie (just with different characters) over and over and over and........ I'm so sick of them I won't even watch them when they come on regular TV for free. Can someone come up with an original idea? I honestly could not care less for any new attraction with this kind of IP connection.

I was never a marvel fan before they started these new movies. I have seen almost all of them and have never thought they were the same movie over and over. Black Panther has been an incredibly huge hit, much bigger than expected.

To be fair I haven't seen BP or any recent Marvel or DC superhero movie. From what I've read PB is basically the Lion King superhero version. But I honestly could not give an first hand opinion. However the movies I have seen all follow the same basic formula.
First film: Hero discovers, obtains, is given powers. Hero learns to use powers. Hero fights villain. Hero defeats villain. set up sequel.
Second film: Hero struggles with personal demons. Hero fights new/same villain. Hero defeats villain.
Third film: more of the same.
IMO this is what I've seen with minor variations. But then again I haven't seen a super hero movie in the past 10-15 years so I could be wrong.
The only SH movie I have seen is GoTG which I would agree is different but to me it's more of a comedy. Even my wife likes GoTG and she hates SH movies as a rule. As far as a film being a commercial success the last 2 SW movies have made a lot of money, and as much as it pains me to say I was disappointed with.
I did however like Rogue one, and I'm cautiously anticipating Solo.

I could see some similarities between Black Panther and Lion King but they are not the same plot by any means.

I really think Marvel has done a good job keeping things fresh and different which helps their success.

I thought the same, until I sat down and watched them all. I didn't care for the old superhero movies..but if you sit down and watch the newer marvel movies, you might change your mind.

Once we saw Black Panther and realized how good it was..wife and I went back and watched all the previous movies since they all tie in together, including GotG.

Only one we really didn't care for was Doctor Strange

They all go for their own sub genres. For example Cap 2 was a political thriller. Ant-Man was a heist movie. Black Panther was kind of a twist on the Bond formula....They do a great job of keeping it fresh in my opinion (At least MCU...DC is a dumpster fire lately).

Also a little silly to say you are tired of them but have not actually seen them.

I'm sorry if you think my opinion is silly, but there really is no reason to be rude. After all this is a discussion forum based on opinion. What I'm tired of is what seems to be a preponderance of formulaic movies (including Horror) that Hollywood is putting out instead of original ideas. But back to a BP ride, what I don't want to see is a another rollercoaster with a PB "theme" slapped on it.

Personally I didn't find the comment rude I think the poster is just trying to say how you can’t judge a book by its cover type of thing. Without giving the movies a chance you can't really say they are all the same. Just my take.

I think Superhero movies are definitely not for everyone. For me, I LOVE the fact that every year there is a major Marvel or DC movie that hits the theaters. I grew up during the age of comic books and video games. Its like a dream come true seeing these characters on the big screen with real life effects.

To someone unfamiliar with the origins of Black Panther (or the BP story in general) it's no where close to the Lion King. It's pretty laughable when I hear that. But I get it.

He said this a week or two ago. Not sure why it's been picked up today for some reason. I saw it posted on other sites too.
