Disney Wonder $13k to Alaska vs $6k on RC

We did Alaska on Royal in 2016. Overall it was fine but the kids did not enjoy the ship as much as Disney. The shows were definitely NOT the same---really not fully kid appropriate. One was a "Chicago" style dancing/musical where I wanted to cover my kids' eyes (and they were 10 and 12). Very much NOT Disney.

Chicago is a bit risqué. I would agree that the theme is more adult oriented.

We are on Emerald Princess this Summer to Alaska out of Seattle. Our inside room was $3,300 for 3 people for the 7-night cruise. We much prefer Princess (and Carnival) to Royal, but everyone has different tastes.

At that age, I already knew how babies were made and about contraception. My older sister was kind of a wild teenager and I had been introduced to horror movies by my younger neighbour. Unfortunately, there was not a lot of stuff I did not know. So much for that "childhood bubble"... LOL
Childhood bubbles don't exist anymore. Internet destroyed that.

DH and I sailed to Alaska on Celebrity Solstice a few years ago, after we had been on DCL. We had a balcony that we used quite a bit to view whales and shore animals when going through Tracey Arm. We were in an aft room that was part of a special section and we had our own specialty restaurant for breakfast and dinner (we could go whenever we wanted but usually called first to let them know what time we were coming) so we didn't have to eat in the big dining room. DH loved that the buffet had "sushi hour" which he went to every day. They also had an indoor pool which was I used quite a bit. We did attempt one show and left in the middle because we didn't think it was too good, but we spent all our other nights on the decks - either outside on the upper deck lawn, watching the glass blowing show (which we really enjoyed and watched every chance we had), in the closed decks where they had these amazing cushioned round bed like things to lounge on, or in our room watching movies (because we never see movies unless they are Star Wars!), and we went to all of the naturalist presentations which were great. We paid WAY less than we would have on DCL. Although we thought overall the service is better on DCL, we still loved the trip. We also were going in early-mid May (because I was already in Vancouver for a work conference) and it was the 1st Alaskan trip of the year for Celebrity, DCL wasn't even sailing there at that time.

We booked an verandah room Alaskan on DCL for 2019 when the Gold booking opened and it was $13K with the kids (2 boys, would be 12 and 15 at the time). They really are not enthused about Alaska but we know they will love it, however we immediately canceled it when our TA told us the price. It was thousands more than what we just paid for our DCL 7-night Western Caribbean during spring break and we just decided "no way" - if we do Alaska we will go on another cruise line.

When I booked our upcoming Northern Europe trip (7 night) on Magic for a party of 4, a Cat 4 room was $13289 so that’s just reality.

I can't think of anything in that movie that wouldn't make it G rated.
Listen carefully to the lyrics of "Greased Lightning" in that film- they're R-rated. I wouldn't even be able to type them into this post.

There are also scenes showing teens choosing to have unprotected sex after the condom breaks, making fun of a girl for being a virgin, a girl coping with an unexpected pregnancy, etc. It's far from a G-film.

We’ve got a secret verandah and an inside across the hall, party of 4, for Alaska in May 2019. Total is just about $9400 and we’ll reshop the inside next week and try to get it down a couple hundred more. Maybe I’ve become too accustomed to DCL prices, but the price seems fair to me. We enjoy all that DCL offers, so the premium is worth it for us.

Thanks everyone! I am open to Deck 2 to save some money, but my husband is not. We've stayed on deck 7 on the Fantasy twice for our Carribbean cruises and he wants to be right around there. I don't think there is any convincing him. Since I can't justify paying $13K for a cruise to Alaska, before airfare and before excursions, unfortunately we will be taking another line :( We hope to get on the new ship when it comes out though!

Yeah we never see that stuff in todays movies.:rolleyes1 My point is it's mild compared to what we see on TV, internet and movies today. I wish they still made movies with no bad language and no violence.

I think you've become too accustomed to DLC prices if you think those are good prices. You should just state you don't mind paying double to cruise on DCL because you feel it's worth it.... and just leave out "it's a fair price".

I've always said the "moral" of "Grease" is 'to be happy and popular become a slut'. But, maybe I'm showing my age.

What I see in that movie is that people can be "labeled" wrong. While she may look rough on the edge, Rizzo is a good girl (she made fun of Sandy --jealousy-- but they have a lot in common actually... Danny is not the "cool guy" he pretends to be as he has a softer side, Sandy has more edge than people think and in the end, labels are not important and will change as you get older and meet new people.

Now, OP... Don't be sad. I'm sure you will have a great cruise no matter which cruise line you decide to sail on. :)

Sooo does anyone on this thread have any tips/comments on Vancouver? We will be there for 3 days before our cruise. I have our days and activities planned, but I am always interested in hearing from those who have previously been to the city.

We are doing Fly Over Canada, whale watching out of Steveston, Stanley Park, and Capilano Suspension bridge. If we have time we will hit Granville Island. Anything else to add?

If you have a car, a drive up to Whistler is fun on a nice day. We also did Stanley Park - rented some bicycles for a couple hours.

Well, no, I don't have to just do anything. But, the Ovation out of Seattle during May 2019 for an inside room and a balcony for a party of 4 is $7600. More than RCCL? Yes. Double? Not even close.

Deck 2 oceanviews are actually great. We stayed there on the Magic for our first cruise back in 2009. Since then we have done 3 deck 7 verandah sailings on the fantasy.

I booked 2 connecting oceanviews on deck 2 wonder next May for Alaska. We are a family of 6 and I just wasn’t willing to pay the $3k increase to have the connecting navigator verandahs.

I priced out rccl and NCL...both new ships, both on verandah rooms, both peak season. Could get all that for same as my May oceanviews sailing on dcl. Stuck with dcl for various reasons and am quite excited about it.

I totally agree on the ocean view rooms in Alaska. We weren't willing in 2016 (or on our 9-night this year) to justify an extra $3k+ for a verandah. We really didn't miss it at all. We spent most of our time outside our cabin enjoying the ship, anyway.
