Yes...
Life is violent.

Just for the record, life is way more peaceful than it has been for a long time. In the last hundred or so years we have seen two world wars and one cold war, each pointing various countries at each others throats. Now Europe in particular is at peace and things are way better, even given the sad state of affairs in Syria.

Nope.........
Post WWII;
It's been estimated that Stalin murdered as many as 20 million of his own people. https://historyofrussia.org/stalin-killed-how-many-people/
Mao Zedong has been credited with wiping out 45 million people. https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-...-killed-45-million-in-four-years-2081630.html
Pol-Pot killed nearly 2 million people in Cambodia of a population of slightly over 8 million (about 25 per-cent), between 1975 and 1979. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ambodia/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.945eac1e4223

And on a Global level today in countries today https://www.pri.org/stories/2016-06-27/map-here-are-countries-worlds-highest-murder-rates
"The mass shootings in the US continue to put a spotlight to gun violence and its high homicide rate compared to other developed countries. But the US is not even in the top 100 for annual homicide rates when compared to the rest of the world."

Overall the world is every bit as violent as it's ever been.

But it is for MASS shootings, which is much worse.

You're basically talking to a wall. You have people who only watch, read and trust fear mongering. They believe they live in a world where violence around every corner and there's always someone out to get them.
The only solution that will vork is VOTE. Remember back when people where this protective of smoking, geee what happened to that.

I served as a Law Enforcement Officer for most of my adult life.
I witnessed that imagined violence first hand thousands of times.
I'll let my friends currently engaged in Public Safety know you've declared that the violence they encounter daily is really just "fear mongering". :sad2:
I'm sure they'll be relieved.

Trust me, no-one is "out to get you".

Except gun wielding maniacs ;)

Woo doggie! I remember some nasty arguments about smoking in the now defunct DIS Debate Board. That was well before smoking was banned in most places. The bans came down pretty fast once the ball started rolling.

Believing that everyone should have the right to defend themselves and believing that there is always someone out to get them is two very different things.

As far as the world being violent, the kind of violence has changed over time. I don’t know if it’s more or less violent and I am sure there are studies to prove either side. I don’t fear going out at night, driving alone, etc but I understand that there are places where this fear is very real and justified and don’t think the people that live there are believing fear mongering.

I don’t fear for my grandchildren when they go to school each day, that wouldn’t be healthy for me or them. But that doesn’t keep me from believing schools should be made as safe as possible.

So I just don’t know that anyone on either side of any of this is necessarily only believing false reports of imagined dangers.

Well.......
Since I've lived that life, and you apparently haven't, I'll just have to trust my personal experiences and not follow your advice to "Trust me".
BTW.
During my career I suffered broken bones, back injuries, dislocated joints, and was stabbed once, all in hand to hand altercations with individuals in varying states of intoxication and mental impairment from illicit drugs.
No one ever tried to shoot me.
However I still go about armed because there are a couple of nut cases locally who stated that they would kill me one day.
I spoke with one of those people in Epcot at the outdoor China pavilion some years ago.
He still doesn't like me.............

I agree with this 100%. Please go out and vote because I am not old enough, but I do have to go to school everyday and have in the back of my head if a shooter is going to come into my school. I ask you all get out there and vote.

when has anyone ever queastioned your right to defend yourself. Owning 60 semi automatics with bumpstocks all bought legally is not to defend youself.

Look at the Canadian Laws, good sensible laws, you can still buy guns, lots of hunters, they do not have the problems we have

You can have the restrictive Canadian Laws and I'll keep our Constitution.
Then we'll both be happy......
Edit;
The Second Amendment has absolutely nothing to do with hunting.
It was put in place to ensure that Americans would always be able to defend themselves from "All enemies Foreign and Domestic." (The quote is from my Oath Of Office that I swore to uphold.)

You do realize that this school shooting was not done with a semi automatic?

Who owns 60?

It takes a killer 1 gun to kill. Owning a bunch or owning 1 doesn’t make him any more or less of a killer. So does it even matter how many?

We are not Canada. We are not England.

We need some control but not the amount that some want to have.

Can Canadians own shotguns?

Canada has no restrictions on Hunting rifles, that will comply with our constitution
