Was I Being a Germaphobe?

Sure:

Poople don't harbor that type of EColi on their fingertips.

Is this the nurse?

No, there really wasn't.

The above was after I said that there was a risk of getting E coli after all of those filthy hands were in the bag.

Why do you continue to spread incorrect information?? Its NOT from bad bathroom habits.

And again, I wasn't talking about how it could be acquired, but about how bad hygiene is the most common cause of person to person spread.

Again with the falsehoods. My post referenced the Mayo Clinic and the most common/typical way to acquire e coli. NOT every way to contract it - just to be clear.
No need to contact the CDC, but thanks!

Oops, though this would include my posts as well, for context.

Have you had some kind of bad e coli experience or something? You seem to put more than a normal amount of effort in trying to prove whatever the point is you are trying to make.

Sometimes, letting it go is better.

Only because people keep challenging me and telling me I'm wrong. I'd have been happy to let my original post stand.

So you just want to be right? You do realize you won't change the opinion of anyone?

Umm, none of those quotes say you can’t spread ecoli person to person.

It's not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of fact. That's why it's crazy that this has gone on so long.

What you seem to be failing to understand is that no one said it’s impossible to spread E. coli by hands on the chips. What they DID say is that it’s very unlikely to be. And they are right.

Yes it can be IF the person HAS E. coli but it’s not likely that a kid there had it.

0 chance vs very low chance are very different.

To put it another way, how many cases of it have you read to be tracked back to a bag of chips shared by kids?

Which by the way, kids do ALL the time without an actual meal going on. I would just about bet that most of those kids have shared food in the dug out or in the stands and not one got sick from it.

They were absolutely telling me that I was wrong when I said that E coli could be transmitted in that fashion. I don't see how you can interpret that any other way.

Yes they did say that it couldn't be spread that way. All I ever said was that it was a chance I didn't want to take, never tried to tell anyone else what they should or shouldn't do. Then I was told I couldn't get E coli that way, yadda yadda yadda, and here we are.

To the OP it wouldn't have bothered me with the chip thing honestly. For the most part I'm not thinking too hard about things like that..maybe I should maybe I shouldn't IDK. Vast majority of the time chips IME seem to just be in a bowl free-for-all-style. On the other hand I don't see a problem with you buying your own chips either.

So anyone else interpreting those same posts as saying it’s juat not likely is also wrong?

I said it was a chance I didn't want to take - they said it couldn't be spread that way. It's not about interpretation.

I'm kind of a germaphobe myself & wouldn't eat the chips. That said, I don't think I'm going to get e. coli from them. That's a ridiculous stretch. The person making that connection should give it a rest & accept the fact that she appears to not be living in reality. I simply prefer to not know there are dirt or germs of any kind in my food. I realize out of sight out of mind often occurs in these situations, but I prefer to not see it. As the saying goes, what we don't know won't hurt us or something like that.

Come to think of it, I have never seen anyone go up to the buffet, dish out their food then go wash their hands before they eat. The handles of the serving spoons are handled by a lot of people. Things that make you go Hmmm

 I guess I'm the first person you've encountered who does that. I always wash my hands, after filling my plate at buffets. I also wash my hands again, if I go up for refills. TBH, I try to avoid buffets as much as possible, for this reason. I also wash my hand, after handling menus to order my meal. My DH isn't as much of a germaphobe as I am. He puts salt, pepper, ketchup, etc. on my food, because I won't touch the dispensers without going to wash my hands again. FWIW, I don't think I'm going to get e. coli from these things. I just feel more comfortable eating with clean hands that haven't touched anything but my fork & knife. Even then, I wonder who has touched the fork & knife. I realize I overthink things like this, but it's just who I am.
