Hawaii 2020

Round trip Hawaii was one of my favorite cruises if not the favorite. I wish they would do it again. I would probably book.
Here's a big wish - the Hawaii one-ways out of Vancouver sell so well, that in the future DCL also does a roundtrip out of San Diego when there on the way back to the east coast.

Of course, if DCL opts to homeport the Wonder on the west coast after the arrival of the 3 new ships, that would be another itinerary option they could include.

There is a pent-up demand for these two itineraries, but it will fizzle out. You are realistically taking the kids out of school for at least two weeks - maybe more.

But if it sells well - that's awesome.

I think DCL really wants it to be a success. Aulani has only 359 rooms vs 875 Wonder suites, so you can expect the resort to be overrun. An average premium of, say, $300 per room night for an average of 4 nights will provide Disney nearly a $450K Aulani revenue boost per week (rough math). Add to it the lower operating costs of the ship itself sailing for 4 or 5 days without a port - and it makes a lot of sense.

This "trial" might just be the prelude to (nearly) a full-time ship on the west coast once the new ships arrive.

Yeah I'm now thinking just a 8-10 day stay in Hawaii rather than the cruise. Since it will be just my younger daughter and I the 5 sea days in a row don't sound as great as they did in the past when my older daughter was with us.

But I'm still considering Alaska for 2020 as well. LOL two completely different experiences.

I agree with you. Too many sea days and too little time in Hawaii!

Booked the 9 night Hawaii cruise! Really excited I hope we'll be able to sail. If I'm three months pregnant at the time of sailing that's not bad right?

You can be up to 24 weeks which is roughly 4 to 5 months pregnant. I once traveled at 12 weeks on Carnival. With them there was a form that you doctor has to sign and certify I would check the DCL rules.

As of right now, for the Honolulu-Vancouver sailing, categories 11C, 11B, 10A, and 9B are sold out -- as is most of the ship. The agent I spoke with said he'd be surprised if any rooms are available past Friday. It's mostly going be a Platinum and Gold Castaway Club sailing by the looks of it.

Do any other cruise lines book the way Disney does - by your loyalty level?

Ok I'll check. It's a long ways off, but hopefully everything goes according to plan lol.

Just checked in as Gold CC to see the availability for either Hawaii cruises. WOW, the pickings are slim in many categories to none.

This would be a great move for Disney to homeport Wonder in southern CA. Might have more options and destinations throughout the year to Hawaii. Canada, and Alaska.

Oh I didn't even think about that. Our current plan for 2020 is a land trip to Hawaii, including Aulani. Although it would be in March, since it would be for our 10th anniversary. These cruises don't start until April, right?

The first cruise starts April 29, but it's coming from Vancouver. The one leaving from Hawaii is May 8th

My understanding is that Aulani runs at pretty full capacity most of the time especially on weekends. At least on the DVC side. I am not sure the cruises will have any real impact on the resort.

Every time I have looked they have definitely been booked up even the fall..

Sorry to hijack this thread, I asked somewhere else and can't remember where (haha) - how close is Aluani to where the Disney Wonder will be embarking in Hawaii?
We booked the 10 night sailing, and want to add a couple of nights at Aluani ahead of time... but really haven't gotten as far as logistics yet...
