Disney's Club Level (CL) Information & Questions

Hi all! Our family is looking at our first club level stay (yay!) because of a great pin code. I have read some of this thread, and it has been incredibly helpful. We are trying to decide between Boardwalk, Yacht Club, Beach Club, and Grand Floridian (Sugar Loaf). We see pros and cons to each one, so I am turning to you experts for advice on a few things:

1. I am pretty interested in the decor at YC and BC. The GF rooms look a little run down (if that is the right adjective) compared to the others. What have you all seen? I saw that this had been commented on recently, and it is making us hesitant. We had pretty much settled on the GF until we saw some pictures.

2. I have to eat gluten free (celiac). How do these resorts do with gluten free offerings?

3. How reliable is transportation from the GF? One of the big deciding factors is the desire to talk to two parks v. monorail/boat/bus from the GF.

4. Are the food choices substantially different at the different club levels?

5. Anything else we should consider?

Thank you all so much!
I would definitely consider which parks you'll be in most...
Epcot has the 3; BWI, YC, and BC... Out of those 3, BWI gets the most love on this board. In fact I don't think I've heard anything negative ever about BWI.
I've stayed CL at BC and had a pretty poor experience across the board, food, meh, cold CMs, and poor mousekeeping, to the point I would never willingly pay to stay there again. My dollars could be spent much better somewhere else.
I've never stayed CL at YC, but this is another resort that gets consistently high reviews.
If you're planning on visiting MK more often, then GF is your better choice. (I noticed Poly and CR were not on your list. There have been some recent reports from @GADisneyDad14 that you should probably check out. He's VERY knowledgeable as to the CL offerings, as are so many others on this particular forum.
Truthfully I would chose by location first, unless your doing a primarily resort stay.
Good luck, nice to have these options, isn't it?!?

So a question we are pondering and I wanted to ask you seasoned veterans of the Club Level Experience: is the for-purchase fast passes WORTH IT?

I was contacted by Signature Services today to introduce themselves and let us know that they are available to help us plan. There are only 2 of us so taking the minimum of 3 days would cost $300 total.

We are going after the holidays - checking in on January 5th, which is a Saturday and staying for 5 nights. We probably won't go into the parks on Saturday. The Marathon is the following weekend (beginning on January 9th) (we will check out on the 10th). Will the parks really be THAT crowded? That the extra $$ is worth the time?

Would love your thoughts ;-)

Honestly, it depends on what you want out of your trip. Paying for the extra FPs gets you all the top rides at the time you want. We did the extra FPs for Memorial Day week and Fourth of July week and really liked it, but I will say that we ended up skipping the last FP every day we had the extra FPs because we were ready to go back to the resort...but I booked a FP we wouldn’t mind skipping as the last of the day. For our mid September trip with my family, we chose not to purchase the extra FPs, and we barely got the rides we wanted and the times we got were horrible so we ended up skipping a lot of them. My sister couldn’t even get SDD so my 5 and 8 year old nephews didn’t get to ride it:(...and mid September is supposed to be a slow time, right?? My friends were able to get SDD for Fourth of July week so it’s definitely possible to get what you want if you don’t care what time of day you get. For us, if the trip is long enough that we can do the three days of extra FPs and still have a couple of easy/resort days, the extra FPs are definitely worth the money because there’s no stressing out over getting up early on day 60 and then not knowing what you’ll end up with! But for shorter trips where the primary focus is relaxation with just a little park time thrown in for fun, the extra FPs aren’t necessary. However, when Galaxy’s Edge opens, if they are still offering the extra FPs, they will be worth every penny even for shorter trips!!

I can address a couple of these...

1. The Sugar Loaf building was recently refurbished, but I didn't see the rooms personally.

2. With a little planning and proactive actions, any lounge should be able to accommodate gluten-free requests. I recently stayed at the GF RPC and had good luck with my food allergies. I emailed Special Diets and Signature Services ahead of time about my allergies, and as soon as I checked in I met with the concierge staff. The concierge filled out an allergy profile for me and which entailed the details of my allergies and when I could likely be visiting the lounge for food. For breakfast the lounge routinely stocked gf bread, bagels and muffins which can be toasted in the kitchen to be safe. I was able to get plain boiled eggs at breakfast, and if I wanted there would have been safe appetizers in the afternoon.

3. I found the transportation from the GF to EPCOT to be frustrating.... it usually took at least 45 minutes due to having to wait for two monorails. Getting to/from MK from GF was a breeze. If you are wanting easy two park access, you are better off at the EPOCT area resorts.

Thank you so much for your feedback! Our pin code has great rates at these resorts, but the Poly and CR are still out of our price range. I very much appreciate your insight on Beach Club. I think it was heading toward last on the list, and your post helped to cement that.

Thank you for your insight, especially about the food part. It's a huge factor in our decision to try out club level, so I am glad to know that there will be options if I am proactive. That's also good to know about the transportation to EPCOT. We still haven't settled on where we think we will be more often. We're leaning toward evenings at the MK, so we may do GF for that convenience.

My mom is celiac as well
And has joined us for CL stays at both yacht and beach and we was very pleased with both, but preferred beach I believe. I know the house chips aren’t gluten free but they had packaged alternatives.

I agree with @squeezle about food allergies; I have had the same experience. I also have Celiac. When we’ve had club level stays, I’ve emailed the signature services (maybe the special diets as well, although that might have been for something else). I’ve had the same experience meeting a CM upon arrival to fill out the allergy profile. They always had something available for me at times when I was in the lounge and could toast my gf bagel separately in the kitchen. The only time this did not work out so well was when we recently received a magical upgrade to Sugar Loaf at the GF. They still really tried to accommodate me, I just found the availability was not what it has been when I’ve been able to communicate about my “allergy” ahead of time. There was still plenty that I could enjoy...the espresso maker and wine in particular! And bottles of water, which I haven’t seen during any of my other CL stays (food also, lol. I realize I have just listed my experience with beverages only! The chips in the afternoon are not GF, but they had bags of chips available for me). We loved Sugar Loaf, and I’m considering booking it next fall.

I found the Sugar Loaf building itself as well as the lounge very well maintained and not looking dated or showing signs of wear. Our room, however, was...funny. It was a wheelchair accessible room, which we hadn’t requested, but it was probably what was available when they decided to upgrade us. It had only one robe (I called and requested another, which was brought to us very promptly), the closet was awkward (presumably to allow a person who uses a wheelchair to be able to use the space, but for non-wheelchair users, we found it strange), and the bathroom was a bit run down looking (also only one sink). My biggest issue was that there was no way for air conditioning to get into the bathroom as the entire space had a door (when we stayed at the GF at RPC in the past we had a door to the toilet and bathtub/shower with the sinks outside). I actually (typically) prefer the entire bathroom to have a door as this way I can get dressed in the morning and use the mirror without waking my daughter who is sensitive to light. Not having a way for air to circulate through the bathroom, though, meant I was sweating by the time I finished getting ready in the morning...not exactly how I want to start my day! I think this issue was due to being in the wheelchair accessible room; I don’t think you would typically have this experience at the GF. The room itself was lovely (we even had towel animals! We’ve never had towel animals before!), and housekeeping did a great job both keeping our room clean during the day and coming in the evening for turn-down service (neither of which was our experience at the Polynesian). The only place where I thought things were showing signs of wear were in the bathroom (scuffed, some chips in the paint, shower leaked some).

About the transportation- I dislike the monorails. I find they have problems much of the time (at least when I ride them), and they usually feel quite warm to me. It kind of makes me feel claustrophobic. We were on a monorail (yellow) that stopped working one day last month. Luckily we were at MK when it happened. It took 15 minutes for them to power it down and reset it during which time they did not open the doors. It was very hot, I wanted to get out, and I couldn’t. I know most people love the MK resorts because of the monorail. I would 100% prefer a bus, especially to Epcot (I dislike going through two bag check lines). That said, I don’t really have any recent experience using the buses from the GF. We tried to take a bus last month to HS for a passholder event that began at 7 AM. Supposedly buses would be running 45 minutes prior to then. We were at the bus stop at 5:55. By 6:30 the bus time (originally at about 6:15 on the screen) had been moved later and later until was almost 6:40. We decided to just take an Uber. That was my only recent bus experience at the GF, and I don’t think it’s typical (seriously, who waits for a Disney bus at 5:55 AM?!)

We’ve never stayed at any of the other CLs you mentioned, although we have trip planned next summer and currently are deciding between BC and YC!

(My other photo said it was too large, but the first towel animal was ever better than this one!)

Thank you for such great information about Sugarloaf. I think we are back to leaning toward GF, so this was very helpful! Our main plans for food are breakfast and the evening spread, so it is good to know that you had options. As soon as we are booked and committed, I plan to reach out to signature services regarding my dietary restrictions (shellfish and seafood as well).

We are monorail fans, but I can certainly see how unpleasant they could be for someone, particularly if they are stopped and you are stuck. They can get stuffy very quickly, and it is weird to be trapped in a tube. We like the boat transportation as well (we have stayed at Wilderness Lodge a couple of times). Our last stay, we were at the CR, and we loved the ability to walk to MK. That is what has us considering the EPCOT resorts. All good problems to have.

Thank you again!

The Grand Floridian is lovely even if someone did miss some dust in a corner or there maybe some spots showing some age, wouldn’t ever have to ask me twice to stay there!!!!!!!!!

Managed to snag a room in the GF at Sugarloaf thanks to the Disney Visa deal. Any tips for room location or stuff a first time CL person might not know? I have the standard room btw and our trip is during this upcoming January. This trip was last minute for us. Normally we plan these things out way in advance.

Thanks!

Are the Disney Visa discounts advertised on Disney’s site?

There isn’t a bad room really! What would you prefer pool view or marina view? Also a regular balcony or a dormer balcony, lower floor or upper floor, that’s basically the options to consider what you would like most!!!

I've read that certain areas are noisier than others and was wondering what area might be less noisy?

It is possible you could hear some lounge noise if you have a room nearby, IMO it’s not that bad though.

There are rooms in the main building that I believe have higher noise levels than SL, still all tolerable noise.

I’ve had two stays in SL. First time was third floor / middle / open to the atrium below. Others have different experiences but I found this location a bit noisy. You knew what time they rolled the dish cart out to stock the lounge in the AM. It was not complaint worthy in my opinion, more an observation than anything else. I will caveat that my DD was still pretty young on that trip and at napping age, so we were probably around the room more than some guests and perhaps more sensitive to noise.

Our other stay (two weeks ago) was third floor at the end of one of the hallways (away from the Atrium). Complete silence. Perhaps the quietest room in our WDW travels.
