Official Wine & Dine 2018

Thank you!

I have no idea how I missed all that last year although we only did the 10K then jumped on a cruise. I’m assuming none of this will be at AK for the 5k Fall Feast?

Hope you got home safely. I know our stretch of I-10 was a parking lot, particularly on the Bayway right outside Mobile.

I don't really remember much about the Fall Feast 5K finisher area last year or the year before ... I'm almost positive there was no beer truck/tent, but there could have been a food stand or food truck there. I just finished and went straight to my car to leave. Hopefully someone else who ran the 5K can chime in and provide insight!

Also - thanks! The drive was longer than usual but uneventful - I stopped for gas in Tallahassee and had to wait about 20 minutes to get to a pump! They were already prepping everything for the storm (saran-wrapping the pumps, etc.), so I was happy to gas up and keep moving. It did take about 45 minutes longer to get across the bridge by the battleship and through the tunnel in Mobile than I am used to, but it was OK (basically from Spanish Fort to Tillman's Corner).

Corral E -- good enough for me. :)

Corral F looks humongous this time... larger proportionally to the others than I recall seeing...

Phew! I am in F, and I am ok with that. I have been plagued with injuries this year. I tore the meniscus in my right knee when training in late April and was out for almost 3 months while it healed. Missed 3 races because of it. I started running again in July and even though I have been very careful, I strained my hip flexor in my last long run two weeks ago (11 miles) and it isn't quite healed yet. My last long run was supposed to be this weekend, but it looks like I will have to give the challenge a go with just a long run of 11 miles 5 weeks prior. I am out of town next week and cannot get it in and getting a long run in the weekend prior to the race is not the best idea either. I will plan on doing 5 or 6 next weekend if the hip flexor is healed and then 5 or 6 the following weekend. I figure it is better to go in under-trained than injured and I will just give it my best. I am guessing I will have an extra 20 or 30 minutes with two corrals after me depending on time between corrals? I am hoping I won't need it, but it makes me feel better to know it will be there just in case.

UGH, I'm sorry. Hope it heals quickly for you!
thanks for the positive thoughts.
So sorry to hear that! I was just wondering if you were still going to go for a BQ this fall, but I guess that's going to be on hold. I hope you heal up soon!
yup bq is on hold at least until jan. I'm hoping the recovery time isn't too bad, but without eunning for 5 or 6weeks it will take a while to come back.

Best of luck to you! I never realized how upsetting a pre race injury can be, until going through it. I hope you are able to heal quickly and get through the race.pixiedust:
yup at least its Disney so it will be fun even if the last 5 or 6 miles are walked

It's interesting that rD doesn't make the corrals an even # of people in each - wonder why they do that? I should be in B but who knows at this point!

okay so i seem to remember back in the days of yore (like 2011/2012) that rd did have corrals that were more consistent size wise. i think it was around the 20th anniversary of the marathon that they went to graduated corrals. I think it was supposed to help with congestion for faster runners.

I think given the choice between undertrained or potentially re-injured, undertrained is definitely the right call. Mentally another long run would be nice but any physiological benefits, would be negligible compared to the additional risk.

Anyone else staying at poly or in the vicinity for the HM and don’t want to take the bus by 4:00 o_O! I was thinking about trekking over around 4:30-45ish and don’t really want to walk alone. Maybe there’s a group of us late risers?!

We are! My friend and I are at the poly. Last year we walked over about 4:30. Missed much of the happenings before the race but we were happy to have that extra sleep! You’re welcome to walk with us!

Great to know!! Let’s stay in touch!! Thank you!

I’m in C but my friend is in E. She’s had a rough year with injuries. We won’t run together but I may stay back and at least start with her. Anything will be better than last year! We registered after the date to submit POT so ended up in last corral. Was a bottleneck for most of the race!

runDisney's corral placements have to be either stupidity or laziness. The % of runners in each corral for the half are:

A - 4%
B - 5%
C- 9%
D - 11%
E - 10%
F - 36%
G - 9%
H - 16%

A third of the field is in one corral and that's just crazy. Why they don't make some adjustments to the other corrals just seems fairly irresponsible on their part . I guess this isn't new, but still.

My first DisneyWorld race and just noticed that the course doesn't go through MK, is that normal?

It is crazy but I think it is also based on estimated finish times that runners submitted when they registered. In this case, 36% of participants believed they would finish the half marathon in 3:01-3:15. I know that if that’s the time I put in and they moved me to H so they could even out the corrals, I would not be a happy camper.

I believe they are trying to change things starting with Marathon Weekend. There were only 2 options for estimated finish times for the Marathon - 5:30 or less or 5:31 and greater. I think it’ll be easier to have a more even distribution of runners in the later corrals because everyone will be a 5:31 or greater finish time.

Like I mentioned earlier corral F is huge, but I have to admit that I would not like a setup like it sounds as though they have coming up for the marathon. Just one over/under will not distribute people within either group according to their actual paces. Doesn’t strike me as a good idea at all. So you can end up with equal numbers in various corrals, but they’ll essentially be distributed randomly within those two large groups. Maybe I’m missing something...

I just realized maps and staging were released :rotfl: I’m a bit behind. I don’t see food or drink listed for the 5k but there are no corrals showing either! Luckily this race ends up as a cool down maintenance run for our 12k the following weekend. We’ll be running to that Battleship!

Sorry I was wasn’t more clear...It was 6am when I posted :) but the under group would still need to submit PoT and would be corralled according to their pace. I think it’s the larger, later corrals that they are trying to manage.
