I love credit cards so much!

But did you use a business or personal card? That's what I'm trying to figure out because I only have a biz card.
I did the offer on a biz card, directv/att internet only, and it hasn't posted. I logged into my account like normal and paid the bill.

Hello All!

TOTAL newbie here (as evidenced by generic profile pic!)....but a long time lurker across many of these threads.
After MUCH reading, I'm excited to try this hobby. But, would love some guidance, given the ever changing nature of the game. And, you guys always seem so nice to the new folks.

Am sitting on the coveted 100K Amex Plat mailer--it expires mid November, was thinking I could attempt the triple dip credit if I timed it correctly? (I understand this only works if I don't plan to KEEP it)

Welcome @Fischstick - I just wanted to say how much I love a post that starts 'Total newbie here' and then talks about 'triple dipping' the Amex credit. :D You certainly have been doing your reading. Instant respect.

If you can meet the MSR - I would maybe suggest applying for Amex Plat and CIP or CSP or CSR on the same day. However, you may want to tread carefully beyond that - with only one credit card - you may have what they call a 'thin credit profile' and obtaining too much new credit too quickly may make lenders wary. Of course, if you have a history containing Mortgages and other loans then this may be less of a concern.

Good luck with your apps and welcome to the party. :welcome:

So the amount of people at Epcot today is cray. I waited 30 minutes in bag check! I had to get a FP for LWTL and the line for FP is wrapped around the dining tables! Hot as can be too! So glad I'm here tho!
It is fall break time in the Nashville area. Most everyone goes to either disney or the beach. We all know to avoid the mountains since it is packed due to leaves changing.

I tried making a $200 payment this morning via the AT&T app for Directv. I did not get the typical Amex "congrats" email + the pending charge looks odd - says something about "phone payment." So I'm skeptical that we'll get the credit. But I will report back in a few days.
Sounds like my experience. No email and also posted as phone. Oddly, neither of my services is phone. ha!

Hello Hello Again!

This board is a wealth of information and moves too fast for me to follow but I wanted to get your opinions... Is $750 reasonable for TWO, 2 yr SWA companion passes? We are a family of 4.

My plan will take place in January, hopefully. DH and I will both open the SW Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card and the Premier Business Credit Card. This will equate to a $400 annual membership.

We will put the property taxes for our rentals and primary home on the cards. This would yield $350 in convenience fees. But enough for each of us to have 110,000 miles in our accounts.

I have to do a final verification but we wouldn't be breaking the 5/24 rule. Does this sound reasonable?

Just skimming the past few pages I am seeing the CIP card mentioned frequently.... if I go this route will I be able to transfer those points to my SWA account and the points qualify for the CP?

I am not dead set on SWA as I would like some international travel as well but it will due through 2020. Any other recommendations?

The UR Points you’d earn on the CIP can be transferred to your SWA account but they do not qualify for the CP

The $750 is probably reasonable...have you look at the cost of the flights your considering taking over the next 2 years......

I’d also look into the SW Priority card...the annual fee is $149, but it come with a $75 travel credit....making it a $74 annual fee vs $99 for the Premier

Just FYI - I do believe the offer said it had to be 1 payment, not multiple. If you're impatient, you could always make a lump sum $200 payment and carry a credit balance for a bit.

Not that impatient but we will pay at least the $200. I'm not fully sure what the bill is but know it needs to be one payment.

Thank you for your reply!
Can the $75 travel credit be used when paying for flights with points?

Total newbie here, so this might be terrible advice. But it there anyway you could take a SW flight in January and hope to apply for an inflight offer? I'm not sure about your proximately to an airport or how big of a hassle that would be. But I'm thinking you could get a round trip SW for much less than $350...

I do know that you can't transfer points earned with the CIP for the CP. You can definitely transfer them to use as RR points, but that transfer won't help you earn the CP.

EDIT: Don't forget that not only will you have a CP, but you will also have 110,000 RR points to use. I would analyze your travel plans to make sure it makes sense to have 2 CP at once. We are a family of 4 as well, and I'm planning on only one of us having a CP at a time, because we would have enough RR for the other 3 family members fairly easily.

I remember people having this issue when they ran the promo last winter. Funny thing is their website specifically states it will be returned to your card. I came across it the other day when I was trying to figure out how to use chase pay in store. View attachment 358585

Thanks for the tip!! I never shop at WM and yet somehow I have the app. Good to know since I am sure I will be buying more stuff as the holidays approach.

Hi! I am close to an airport but have no plans to travel in January. We will be using some of the points to fly in March, which will be 'expensive' since we are waiting so long to book.

Having one CP is a good idea; I didn't consider it and will have to look into it. My initial thoughts were since the RRs don't expire, we would bank them to use beyond 2020. And we are having to pay property taxes anyway. But maybe just paying $375 is best.

I am hoping Hawaii opens up before then.

On a previous post, you mentioned you have a SW Premier Visa (I just did a search on this thread, I'm not a stalker). Did you cancel that card? Because you can't get another personal SW card if you currently have one, since in April this year Chase implemented a One personal SW card rule. So I'm going to assume that you did cancel it...

Beyond that, is $750 reasonable? Well, you would get over $2900 of SW airfare plus whatever you want to value the CPs at. If there's a way to reach the MSR without incurring those fees that would obviously be a more financially sound choice. $350 in fees for how much in spending? The $8K MSR on 4 cards? That works out to 4.375% in fees. Did you know you can pay federal income taxes at 1.87% fee on a cc? That's even lower than Plastiq, which charges 2.5% fees, and can make almost any kind of bill payment you'd want. Visa technically doesn't allow mortgage payments but some have had success working around that in Plastiq. Tips are in our Dischurners reddit, as well as support links.

Since the SW Biz doesn't count towards your x/24 status (but you need to be 4/24 in order to get it; same thing for the CIP), you would want to apply for the biz card(s) before the personal card if you're nudging up against 5/24.

My SW CP runs out at the end of this year. I plan to apply for the SW Biz card at the end of this month but not put any spend on it until January, then one of the personal SW cards in Feb 2019 when I drop back to 4/24. I hope to have the CP by March.

Hey everyone. Getting ready to leave for vacay tomorrow night. Kids have MEA (Thursday and Friday - teachers break) So figured I have to take advantage of that... DH is busy at work so it will be Me, DS19, DD17 and DD's Friend 17. We are flying in to Orlando Tomorrow night (around Midnight). Used SW Points for fare plus DD is companion on mine. Staying at Seaworld Hotel for 2 nights (from Marriott Free nights certificates). Going to Seaworld on Wednesday (DD and I had bought season passes back in March when in Orlando so will use those, then got DS and Friend $50 tickets when they had those daily deals). Then we are getting on a Carnival Cruise for 3 nights and coming back on Sunday from that and then going to the Disney Halloween Party.

So, we will have a busy week. Very excited...l.

I bought those packing cubes you all talk about. Well, I went to You Tube and researched how to fit thing in these. They make it look so easy with their rolling and making clothes stay - did not go that well for me, so I just make up my own method. Used 1 bag for our outfits for Seaworld, 1 bag for outfits to get on the cruise and 1 bag for our Disney Outfits. At least that way we won't have to dig through all the suitcases - I can just pull out my Magic Packing Cube and ta da... My DD thinks I have gone nuts. Used some of the smaller ones for socks, undies, swimsuits and toiletries. So, 1 suitcase full of packing cubes and the other full of just folded clothes. (Not enough of the bigger cubes). So, we will see how this all works out.

I do have the Priority Pass with my CSR. We fly out of the small airport in MSP so there is nothing there to use it on. Am I understanding that the Priority Lounges are not easy to get to when flying Southwest. I think I can take me plus 2 others and then just pay for the 4th - If that works out correct? Never been in a lounge before so would kind of be cool. Is the MCO one worth it - or too much hassle to get too?

Oh gosh, I have to keep up with another forum?!? I'm not on Reddit. But thank you, I will check it out.

You are awesome. I hadn't really thought about the % fees and putting payments on it. I will look into those options as well. Hopefully we won't owe any federal income taxes this year.

I have not canceled the Premier VISA. I didn't realize I couldn't have 2 personal. I thought I couldn't have been accepted for 5 in a 2 yr period. Guess I need to go back and analyze everything with a fine tooth comb.

Oops, I wasn't paying attention and just went over on the AMEX Staples offer. Per reddit, DHs employee card on my account will count towards my total $100 back. I forgot to write down a purchase I had made this weekend. So I thought I was at $690 on mine and $240 on his employee card, for a total of $930... but turns out I'm at $780 on my card... puts us at a total of $1020. And before I double checked all of this, I got all excited and ordered some Happy Guy GCs. Guess we'll see if AMEX has already figured this out now so the credits won't post past $100, or are they going to give credits and then clawback... oops.

If you haven't seen the GC thread and are interested, Staples.com has Happy Guy GCs for $51.99 (shipping fee), but 10% off currently. So they are $46.79 for $50, and I ordered two to hopefully trigger the RMN offer of $5 back on $80+. If it works (and you have AMEX 10% offer left - d'oh!) it's $84.22 for $100 in GCs + $5 from RMN = about 19.8% off.

Probably too late now, but for future reference, you can SM Chase and ask for it to be rush shipped to you (for free). I did that as soon as I got the approved phone message and had the card in 2-3 days.

Hope it gets to you soon!
I'll remember for next time. I never thought it'd take so long!

We did get snow. Maybe 3"?? How about y'all?
About the same. It didn't stick to our roads, just made them a muddy, slick mess :sad2:

So I requested the Gold metal on October 4 around 8a and it just came in the mail today. They told me it would be here on the 17th, so 2 days ahead of schedule. I am sure the Rose is a lot more popular right now. It is a heavy card for sure. Saw some people complaining on another forum that the contactless version makes the card into a metal sandwich and they speculate that the non contactless would not have the sandwich effect.

I was wondering yesterday if Amex does the envelope to send the metal card back like Chase, and it does. One was included in the envelope.

Yep, same. Roads were fine thankfully but when it gets that cold, visions of moving to FL start dancing in my head lol. I was ready to pack the house up, go without a job and not worry about how schooling would work for the kids. Just get me out of the cold!!!
