I don't know what I was thinking last night when I set-up my BGR but I created a new account for it. Will Amex merge it with my other accounts if I give them a call?

Yes. But you can even chat with Amex, and a rep can merge your accounts for you.

As you know I have been having some regret for getting the BGR instead of the Biz Plat. But this does make me feel better about that decision. No MR’s at all is crazy. Here is to fingers crossed no changes to the Plats within the next couple weeks (before I can get one).

Not keeping this card.... I was hoping for something like the personal gold card.

Can I please get some advice?

Here are DH's cards:

Chase Ink Preferred 2/5/2018
SPG Biz Amex 4/18/2018
Hilton Amex Biz 5/24/2018
Amex Biz Green 8/7/2018
Barclay Arrival + 10/8/2018

I think he also got a Lowe's card last December :guilty: So I believe he is 2/24. My plan for him is:
1) apply for CIC now
2) apply for SW personal in January
3) cancel CIP in February
4) apply for SW Biz March 1

Does anyone see any issues with this plan, or have any other ideas? TIA!

I don’t see anything wrong with your plan...just check Chase credit limits prior to applying and reduce if necessary

Thanks, does make me feel a little better because I seriously think she was wanting to switch countries. lol Her school has not been much help at all. She does know someone that went last year and she has been helping her a little but only if we know enough to ask the question. Like the health insurance, the school gave her a card and said this is your health insurance, while the visa application clearly states the insurance must come from South Africa. I told DD I don't think what the school gave you is going to work, so she texted the other girl and she also said no, the school provided one did not work. That girl didn't find out till she was in South Africa that it didn't work. I guess the school one was enough for the visa but the host university also required it before they could start classes. I am trying to help but I really don't know what half of the stuff means.

Granted I've never studied abroad and always found help when I had to get visas for the race team, but has she looked for a facebook group or message board? Eithet for those at the school she's going to, SA or study abroad in general? It seems like there's one or both for almost everything now days and she may get help and make friends before she gets there.

Still no instant approval for Chase Business Cards, but I'll take next day for my P2 CIP! :yay: I still can't believe how some of you can accumulate so many points, I seem to spend mine as soon as they post. I'm hoping for a CIP for me in a few months and then use the points for an all inclusive Caribbean trip next October!

She has actually been planning this particular university for over 2 years, so not last minute. Just her school submitted all her stuff late so feel like we are already behind. I have found more info from the host university than her own, which I understand they are working with lots of countries and universities, but I expected a little more from them.
My dd spent her semester in the UK, and thank goodness did not need a Visa. She did get assistance from her school on things, but it all seemed to be very last minute, and not very detailed. We were left with a lot of questions! I was so glad there were multiple kids flying over together, so at least at first they were all floundering together.

Any spend before your December closing date won't count toward 2019 because those points will credit to your account in 2018 when the December statement closes. I assume the other poster you tagged was referring to your bonus points. If you have the 50K bonus and the 60K bonus and they both credit to your account in 2019, then those points alone will be enough to get you the CP. In that scenario, the 2K points you earn from trying to achieve the MSR won't be needed to hit 110K points since the bonuses will do it for you. However, if you have two 50K bonuses, then you will still need to earn 10K more points , so in that scenario, it would be best to earn those points after your December statement closes so they will credit in 2019 and help toward the CP. Make sense?
yes:worship::teacher: printed this reply to stick above my computer:flower1:

I had to laugh about this. Four kids, six study/internships abroad, plus one who worked a year in Taiwan and one who did a graduate degree in the UK. If it makes you feel better, I don't think any countries allow study abroad without a Visa. Even places like the UK, where you don't need a tourist Visa for stays under a certain number of days, have a ridiculously complex Visa application for people who want to stay for a semester or a year.

I will say that all of my kids received a lot of guidance from either their home or host schools, and sometimes both.
::yes::

It's a pain to compile all the required documents/information but you are going to be a temporary "citizen" of a foreign country & they really need to make sure you are who you say you are, and don't have any nefarious plans. Some countries only require a visa for stays of 6+ months, though, I think.

Both schools absolutely should be providing guidance - excessive guidance, at times.

You all have me intrigued since we have 6 years until DS starts college. What everyone going board to study or do? Pretty sure DS will be studying something science/math oriented since he detests writing and ELA.

That's right, those points wont count for CP. But if you have a 60k biz card and can get a 50k personal card, you dont need the points from spending to get CP.

We got DHs biz card last week. Were finishing SPG Lux now, then well move to my CIP (which will be assisted by extra payments on my car loan). I'll probably put a few things here and there on the biz, and ramp up after the cip is close to done. But I won't make that last bit of spend until the first few days of January. Same with the personal, I'm planning to apply on a flight the first weekend of December for a 50k offer. I might spend more on that after getting it and do more car payments on the SW biz.
ok thanks- since I'm not sure we can get the pers. at 50k I'll keep it real slow till late almost Jan. I'm going to be looking for an offer at the airports in Dec tho, maybe I'll get lucky! FWIW, if I don't find a better offer, I may be better off referring DH to a pers. card right now for the points for me, and then he can upgrade the card later on...(for the perks(?)

My dd was a double major, Film and Writing. Her school had an exchange program with a university in the UK, in their film/tv program. They sent kids here in the first semester (really, they didn't want to send kids to MN in January?? LOL) and then our kids went there in the second semester. So for her, it was part of her major.

You actually need to figure out when your statement will close. If you just got approved...you may only have 1 more statement this year. You'll want to hit the MSR a week or more in advance of the statement closing date. (also note...the Statement Closing Date is NOT your payment Due Date - the best way to figure this info out would be to call the # on the back of your card and ask for BOTH dates then report back here with the answers so we can help determine if the agent answered correctly or not).

After reaching out to Chase they said the first closing date will be on November 20th. I guess that means we will have a second one of December 20th this year in case we can't get the full 3K in during the next 12 days. Does that sound right?

Hopefully you'll have luck :) I always see someone in DEN at the booth with the 50k sign when I've been through.
