2020 points chart has been revised to be closer to 2019

Poly had a lot of Direct new owners, who probably bought just enough for a weeks stay in a studio. DVC probably got an ear full from them after they couldn't stay for the week they were "promised" by their guides.
That didn’t stop the THV reallocation (when they moved SSR points to THV) right after they sold out.

They did offer Poly fixed weeks for sale that wouldn’t go up regardless of any reallocation.

But it could have resulted in a lot of whining from Poly owners of no one else changed.

To calculate the total number of points for a resort, you need to start with a "base year". That's defined as a year with the least amount of Friday and Saturday nights. You also need to know the number of dedicated studios, dedicated 1 bedrooms, dedicated 2 bedrooms, the number of lock-off 2 bedrooms, the number of 3 bedrooms (aka Grand Villas) plus the number of "specialty" villas (if any, at the resort) such as bungalows, cabins & THV (at SSR). Beyond that, you need to recognize the different seasons and booking categories. Note that all lock-off 2 bedroom villas are counted as a 2 bedroom for this purpose. Had they counted the lock-offs any other way, the resort could have ended up oversold.

For each season: You need to calculate the total points for the season by multiplying the cost of each booking category by the number of Friday & Saturday nights in the season and add those totals to the totals for the number of weekday nights in the season by the cost for each booking category. This involves a lot of calculations because you have to do it for each booking category - for example, some studios have 3 or more booking categories

Then you add the totals for each season to get the grand total for the resort. That number is the number of points originally available to sell (less the required amount Disney is required to keep for the resort for administrative/maintenance reasons). This is the way the calculation is, and has been done (per the POS), to satisfy the "total can't change" criteria. Again, had they done it any other way, the resort could have ended up oversold.

I'm confident that the difference between the 2019 and original 2020 charts was virtually zero even though I do NOT like the way they increased 1 bedrooms. That was/is counter intuitive and I am glad they are taking another look at it.

:flower3: First time poster here. I own at Poly (since 2015) and have been following this discussion closely. I just want to give a huge thank you to all of the members who called DVC to complain about this, resulting in them reversing their changes to the 2020 points chart. I considered calling myself several times, but never did. Thanks again!

*** Welcome! ***

As someone who has been checking for availability at least 20 times a day for the past month, I am surprised that Disney tried raising the points on 1 bedrooms. I can not put together a week anywhere outside of SSR for my family of 6. I am consistently seeing far more availability in every resort for 1 bedrooms over studios or 2 bedrooms. We have owned for 12 years and book either studios or 2 bedrooms so I haven't noticed this previously. Unless my observations of the 1 bedroom units having greater availability are wrong, why increase the points for them???

Exactly. Even if they actually are changing the point totals, for the reasons they claim, which is to adjust for demand, then there is absolutely NO WAY you could justify increasing the 1 bedroom rate.

It looks like they might not be able to change point totals in a way that they could raise one type of unit and lower another type of unit. That is the way some people are interpreting the language. In other words, if you raise Studios in one season, then you must LOWER STUDIOS by an equal amount in another season. Rather than raising Studios and lowering 2-Bedrooms. I guess we will wait and see how it works out in the end, but they still, in no way, can justify raising Studios AND raising 1-bedrooms.

1-bedrooms are the least desired unit at most resorts (except for Bungalows at Poly and Cabins at CCV). And they are almost universally the last to book up, in any category. So, if they CAN use one type of unit to offset a different type of unit, then 1-Bedrooms should actually be LOWERED, and not raised. It was this problem which TRIGGERED most of the fuss. If Disney had done it right, there would not have been such a massive outcry. Instead, it looks like what it probably was, and that is a massive point grab by Disney.

Now, here is something Disney should pay attention to: We will never forget this. In the future, EVERY Disney decision with respect to DVC will be run through the filter of: 1. Is it legal. And 2. Is it good for the members, or is it mostly only good for Disney. They have a fiduciary relationship and they violated our trust. And it takes a lot of work to get over that.

So true, so true! Especially the part I bolded.

I was so happy to see the revised points and am grateful for all the analysis and work of those on the other post who really chased DVC down about this.

I had contacted my rep when the points were first announced to see what he would say about the changes. The increase would have made our small contract almost worthless for us. He reported back that he was "shocked" and had "no idea" what happened and said he'd get back to me with an answer, but never did. I think the higher ups heard a from a lot of voices. Once bitten, twice shy for me. I will be more watchful with the contracts going forward for sure. For now, I'm just glad we'll get to enjoy our membership the way we planned.

Are the original 2020 points charts available/archived anywhere? I never had the opportunity to look at them.
I have the old point data from my database when I imported the PDFs from the disney site into my web based DVC vacation tracker software. Which ones did you need?

Here are PDF's of all the charts.
