Star Tours DL vs. WDW?

My DH and I are WDW veterans and are heading to DLR for our 1st time this weekend. We are going to try to do everything at least once even if the comparable ride at WDW isn't our favorite (ex.- ToT freaks me out but I am going to to try GotG). My only real hesitation is ST. My husband gets motion sick everytime he rides it and only rides in 1/10 times at WDW when the kids beg him. I know the same thing will happen at DL but trying to decide if there are any differences in the rides at the two parks that would be worth it for him to suck it up once. If it matters, we are big Star Wars fans. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

ST is identical at DL and DHS (WDW). It bothers me too a little. I only ride it once a trip.

Three others are pretty much identical:

Little Mermaid (at DCA)
Toy Story Midway Mania (at DCA)
Soarin (the DCA vs. Epcot versions have endings with fireworks etc. specific to each resort - everything else is the same)

I have not done the one at WDW..but I have a couple of friends who refuse to do ST because it makes them so sick. They can do the teacups, Silly Swings, and even Soarin, but that one just makes them very sick.

Would motion sickness medication work? My aunt takes it before any ride at DL, and can do everything including Star Tours. She just can't do the spinning ones.

I’d just skip it. If you’re going, he could wait in the queue with you and just let a CM know he wants to walk through to the exit.

I much preferred the que and the building at DCA vs Epcot. But the actual attraction is the same, like you stated.

Star Tours is identical, with the exception that the lines are always longer than at WDW because there are less pods at DLR. Skip it-- not worth him getting sick- there are too many other things to do at DLR. You should try GOTG. I hate TOT too, but I ride GOTG- sometimes even more than once in a trip. Somehow when you add the fun music and the Guardians, I can bring myself to do it. It really is something to try at least once.

Motion sickness pills would work. Try Meclizine (brand name Bonine) once in the morning. Or ginger chews when starting to feel sick. For Star Tours when you start to feel nauseous just close your eyes!

Thanks everyone this was so helpful!!! I think Star Tours is officially off my touring plan now. Soarin is still a must and LM & TSMM can go either way. Now here’s to hoping Matterhorn doesn’t give DH a headache like Space at WDW. I also think I might invest in motion sick medicine & try it out on my flight out west tomorrow.

For Matterhorn, hold your neck as still as possible, and don’t put your back against the seat. Helps a little bit.

Definitely do GOTG - I LOVE TOT and was sad to see it go. As much as I hate to admit it GOTG is better than TOT.

Trip for Matterhorn - don't sit back against the back rest - Sit like you are going on a sled- feet/legs braced - grab the bars in front you sit up straight or leaning forward. it's easier to anticipate the turns and not as hard on your neck & back.

Have fun!!! I wish I was going back to DL. Planning my 1st trip to WDW in 16 years.

I thought of two more comparison questions. Sorry I’m high maintenance but it’s fun talking Disney...My rides at WDW I rarely ride (like only ridden 3/30 times) are Tomorrowland Speedway & RnR. TS because the smell of gas fumes and jerking of kids driving give me a headache & little to no enjoyment. Can I assume Autopia is a similar experience and one to skip on an adult only trip or is there some value I’m missing?
On RnR, I freaked out after riding it once- I didn’t get the harness down tight enough and felt like I was going to fall out. (DH warned me this can happen) Is this an issue with Incredicoaster and if so any tips to avoid that feeling?

Thanks- so helpful!!! Please feel free to message me with any WDW questions. We typically go 4-5 times per year and I always love talking WDW.

Isn’t this the one that doesn’t really make you as sleepy?

Autopia is much more scenic than TS, but the experience is fairly similar as far as gas fumes and kids driving.

I've never had anything like that happen on IC, but I only rode RnR once five years ago and don't remember the harness setup or whether it's similar.

Generally speaking meclizine causes less drowsiness than dimehydrinate which is traditional Dramamine. You can find meclizine as Bonine or "Less Drowsy" Dramamine or pretty much any "non drowsy" or "less drowsy" motion sickness medication. That said, it can still cause some drowsiness so I'd encourage you (or DH or whoever) to try it out beforehand to see how you feel.

As mentioned, Autopia will have the same fumes issue so I'd avoid that if it bothers you.

The harness and seating on RnR is very similar to IC. But I really don't think you could "fall out" even if didn't have the harness super tight. You would have to try and wiggle around the harness. But if you're worried about it just make sure you pull the harness down as tight as you can.

As others have said, skip Autopia if you skip TS.

Incredicoaster is a lot like RnR but IMO not nearly as good (because the theming and story or weak). If you freaked on RnR then it is best to skip IC. But one big difference is you can see everything on IC - the whole track. So maybe you will want to try and approach the loading area and then make a final decision.
