Let's talk about how the opening of Galaxy's Edge will affect crowds at OTHER parks.

Will SWGE make the other 3 parks more crowded?

Star Wars fans camped out for days just to see Episode 1, so yeah the answer is “as absolutely early as Disney will allow”.

Exactly. I think what people will be asking themselves is "How early must I be at HS in order to get in before GE reaches capacity?" And I think the answer above is pretty much spot on.

WHAT? You're not already in line? :confused3

I am pretty sure they will be rolling into the parking lot at 4am. May as well camp out at DHS for the night.:crazy2:
For one brief moment I thought about extending our August vacation by one night so we could be there for opening day; then I came back to my senses. Pretty much no point unless you're willing and able to survive the mass of humanity.

I keep telling myself "They'll be happy even if we just stay at the pool all day," but then realize I could have put a pool in at my own house for the amount we're paying lol

That is the dang truth!! My parents have a pool at their house - 6 minutes down the road. Why am I going 12 hours from home, and paying TONS of money to swim?! NOOOOOOO.... UGh.

Except the maintenance costs is what gets you on a pool, they are very expensive to maintain and insure. But again, I really think everyone is worrying for nothing, yes the land will be crowded for a while, but it will die down and it will only slightly affect the crowds at Hollywood Studios.

What you should worry about more is how many new hotels are being opened without increasing park capacity accordingly, that is a legitimate concern. Also how many hotels are being added to the list of ones eligible for EMH benefits, again that is an issue. Galaxy's Edge impact will be minimal, aside from when the land first opens and ROTR first opens, then as I said you will see a bit of a bump in the crowds at Hollywood Studios, but also hopefully an increase in hours and hopefully they get something new in place in place of the Launch Bay on both coasts before then, this will help with crowds as well.

I am going Sept 15-21 and I was upset at first but then just decided I'm just going to suck it up. I am unable to change my week with work, my AP expires Sept 24th and I have no plans to renew since we are doing Disneyland Paris next year (planned to avoid SWGE until 2021) and airfare is already booked. I will try and see if I can get into the land but not expecting to and if I do no plan of trying to ride the ride, just want to try blue and green milk, lol. I had planned on waiting 1.5 years to go after it opened but now that I am stuck going 2 weeks after it opens I have no choice but to suck it up and make the best of it, I will just spend more time at F&W. :)

I really don't think you gave much to be worried about, yes you might not get into Galaxy's Edge easily, but the rest shouldn't be too much of a problem, especially if you get FP+ before going and make sure you have an ADR at Hollywood Studios on the day(s) you want to go there, just in case they do a phased closing.

We booked Aug 29-Sept 2 several months ago with bonus of extra DVC points with buying DVC. Our goals were (1) Halloween Party (2) Food & Wine and (3) Toy Story land and (4) pool time at our resort. I had hoped we'd miss star wars and it would be a relative quiet time. I just made our dining reservations. Of course, we'd like to see Galazy's Edge, but we don't need to see it on day 1. I have a few months to adjust my plans (ie. do we just skep HS altogether. Will TSL just be ridiculously busy too?!? Of course, I'm glad that we will be able to do most of what we wanted to do. Part of me wonders though if we need to be shifting plans to try to see GE.

I'm guessing it will be a madhouse just with all the AP locals. I was hoping that weekend would be blocked out.

I’m a bit later than you guys but the shock has worn off and my husband said either we go Oct 26- Nov 1 or not at all. So even a crowded day at disney is better than a day at home. I’ll be closely watching the opening and crowds and I’m pretty much throwing crowd calendars out the window. I expect it to be crowded. I also expect us to have a wonderful time

Yeah I can't cancel at this point bc it's for my sons birthday :(

Is WDW opening in phases too or is that just DL? Will people wait for phase 2 to come? I am going October 5-12. Think it will have died down a bit then?

I actually read an article the other day that said it's like one ride opening and that's it. Is that true? If so, I can't imagine the park will be that busy for ONE ride. *fingers crossed* I'm hoping most people will wanna wait until the ENTIRE area is open.

Has there been any educated guesses or speculation of the effect of SWGE crowds at the other WDW parks after the grand opening? Let’s say, September crowds since they are usually the least crowded. Was anybody at the world during opening week (or close) to Pandora and how were the crowds at AK and the other parks? This is already assuming Hollywood Studios will be madness for months to come.

TP - response related to this thread.

I don’t think Magic Kingdom and Epcot will experience a significant bump in wait times as a result of this announcement. So many of the extra guests heading to Walt Disney World will be focused on experiencing the new land that I think there will be a willingness to sacrifice the other parks to get it done. Animal Kingdom will see a bump, I think, because Pandora still has appeal as the previous new land.

I'm giving serious consideration to just eating my MNSSHP ticket price and the change fee on my airline tickets and going to visit my parents over the weekend of Rosh Hashanah (yes, I know it's sundown Sunday through sundown Tuesday). I haven't bothered with anything in the Studios in years (I only like Muppets, ToT, and Fantasmic anyway now that the Great Movie Ride is gone), but the overflow idea is NOT fun. Since I have an AP and room only, I can wait a bit longer to cancel, but I'm going to take my first feel of the temperature on March 31 when I can make ADRs. If it's hard to get even the usually easy to get ones, immediate cancel. If it's not, the next test will be FP+. Again, not even planning to go near Studios, but I'll see what the availability is. Too crappy and I'll cancel. And final stage if FP+ are not horrid, I'll probably hold onto the reservation until after the first couple of weeks and then make a call on it, cancelling if the other parks are insane.

I’m working on ADR’s for opening weekend now. I’m not having issues with availability (even at DHS).

That's hopeful... However, with the news just having broken people may still be making their plans. I'll be there a month after the "fun" begins.
