Game of Thrones - Season 8 - NO SPOILERS PLEASE

I searched for another thread, but none seemed to exist.

What did you think of last night's episode?

There were terrible storms here last night and I was concerned that they would knock out my dish, but they held off until after 10.

My favorite parts were in the crypt and when Jon reunited with Arya and Samwell.
The very last scene with the old friend was pretty great. I would prefer a thread where we can discuss spoilers because there is so much to say about last night's episode!

So, the introduction credits... was everything moving backwards, as I interpreted them or am I wrong? They usually would end with the Wall, but they started with the Wall with a huge hole in it and seemed to move backwards.

If something was aired, it's no longer a spoiler. If you are speculating, it's not a spoiler, it's your opinion.

I have no issue with discussing opinions. I don't want someone to start talking about what they read as a spoiler from somewhere. I don't want to know what's leaking to the media, but I'd love to know everyone else's theories and thoughts.

I thought it was the wall collapsing and the move southward to the locations we were headed to in the episode.

Have you read Fire & Blood? It’s actually quite excellent and would make a great tv series with plenty (like hundreds of years and dozens of generations) of room for continuation.

Right?!? I actually quite hated how he was in last night’s episode. :crazy2: I hope he reverts to being at least a little more “human” before the story ends.

I have not read that yet. I'm not surprised it's a good read, Martin can weave quite a story and has plenty of experience writing for the screen.

What's more surprising to me is that I ever began reading the series 22, 23 years ago in the first place. This genre is not at all my usual to say the least. It's been so long I can't remember what made me put the first book on my Christmas list all those years ago.

I predict the common people of Westeros will revolt and install a parliamentary system.

"Down with dragons, up with people!"
"Democracy is coming!"
"Bend the poll lever!"
"You know nothing, Jon Snow, and therefore should not be our king"

I thought it was a pretty good opening for the final season, kept me interested the entire time.

I watched it. I see the beginning of the end for Jon and Daenerys.
I predict he will end up killing her to claim the Iron Throne.
This post is an observation, followed by a prediction, which includes a motive.

I agree that it could very well be the beginning of the end for Jon & Dany. However I disagree that Jon will kill Dany. There are a hundred or more ways that Dany may die, but the possibility that it will be at Jon's hand seems quite remote. As to the motive, Jon has never displayed an appetite for ruling; there's been no indication he craves the iron throne. I certainly don't see him murdering Dany to gain the throne.

 It's the only genre of fiction I do read. I remember it taking me almost a year to let myself finish the last volume in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time epic. I :lovestrucLOVED those characters and at the time, had "known" some of them longer than my DH. The closer I got to the end the slower I read - it was difficult letting go. :lmao:And may I add that Robert Jordan actually died and still managed to finish his freakin' series, so GRRM gets very little slack from me on this.

I don't think that Jon will kill Dany directly. I don't think he's that cold-hearted.

However, I find it interesting that he finally knows about his birthright. That could change his thoughts about the throne. He's an honorable man and the honorable thing for him to do will be to accept his position and ascend to the iron throne.

I think that when push comes to shove, Dany may try to kill Jon once she knows his birthright. I think she wants to rule and she will see Jon as her biggest obstacle. Dany is not a forgiving Queen. Jon will realize that the people need him and he will have no choice.

I think this is a more likely scenario.

Well, how it will actually go is anybody's guess. They share the genetics of the Mad King; one or both of them could snap in any unpredictable way, I suppose. Jon though, does not have "nurture" to overcome - he was brought up with unwaivering honor and integrity. I loved the inspiration and idealism of the "We are not our Fathers" dialogue between Daenerys, Tyrion and Yara Greyjoy a few seasons back and it may bear itself out.

I am going to live in my "they will marry and live happily ever after" bubble for a bit longer. =P

I do think it was foreshadowing for Arya to tell John not to forget who his family is...

I don’t think Jon killing her will be an accident. Not self-defence, but a planned, necessary choice he has to make for the greater good. He’s a good guy though so I think he will kill her with honour and integrity. :rotfl:

I was actually much more unsettled by the Bran storyline in the books.
Would you please give me a little re-cap? It's been years and years, and those years haven't been entirely kind to my memory (lookin' at you perimenopause...:sad2: ).

It's interesting how the power shifted from Tyrion in the early years to Sansa. She's no longer the young, innocent girl she was back then. She's become quite an adept and intelligent leader.
Yes, but would it kill her to be just slightly less of a pompous ***** to him? To my (admittedly less than perfect) recollection, Tyrion never, ever did her wrong.
