Canadian Buffoon's Back to Front Vacation - Update! 05/18 - Falling Down

And... I couldn't help but
notice... my mom was a teacher... :snooty: ;)
that you wrote:
"I couldn't help but noticed they spelled..."
THAT IS HILARIOUS! I read it again as I was reading your reply and had to shake my head at myself!! Apparently my spelling is better than my grammar :)

I'm going to go out
on a limb and say...

Sometime between
5am and noon.

Close enough for government work.

I was very near the
Canada/US border
so that was first up.

By now, you know the drill.
Lather, rinse, repeat, repot.
Poop... you know how it goes.

Or not, as the case may be.

I pulled over to take a quick
photo of him before he
hurried off to buy rocket
propelled roller skates
or the like.

Good call. Although he could have just come to Delaware. We have Acme stores all over.

About an hour after leaving
camp and crossing the
heavily fortified 49th parallel
(There was a guy there...
I presume he had a pistol...)

Or at least a big stick he found in the woods.

DSC06655_zpskywheqss.jpg

Beautiful! Nice spot.

Well because it's a
saline endorheic alkali
lake, of course!

Gesundheit.

What happens is that as the summer
progresses, the water slowly
evaporates, leaving colourful
rings, or spots, on the water.

Huh. Interesting.

The lake was on my way,
so I wasn't disappointed
overly much.
But I'm glad I didn't drive
too far out of the way
to see it.

Yeah, maybe it's better at a different time of year.

Blech!
Not blueberries.
Or if they were, they weren't
ripe yet or something.
Sour.

Good thing they weren't poisonous. But then I guess you'd have to be pretty cavalier to grow poisonous berries at a vineyard.

Just because they're not
the most intelligent marmots
in the world, doesn't mean
you have to call them slow.
And to tell everyone!

Maybe it's referring to the specific marmot that lives there. He tries his best.

Maybe the lime and the mirtillo?
No idea what "mirtillo" is...
but it appeals to me, so...

I hear it's made from fake sour blueberries. That's what the picture shows, anyway.

Maybe not so much the '46,
but the 1913... both with
original paint???

Surprised it's lasted that long. Over 100 years!

Nice enough little place.
It was close to the highway,
so not overly quiet though.
Still, I'd stay again.

Looks like a nice spot.

"Didn't you know there's a
total ban on campfires?"

Boo.

I crept out from my tent
to take a photo of the starry night.

Lots of stars. Always great when you can get out and actually see the night sky.

One more update and this
portion of the TR will be over,
I think.

Keep your cheering to a minimum.

You can't hear me through the computer screen!

Did you see it in this chapter?

Took me 3 tries scrolling through the photos, you little punk.

What a journey! Your solo adventures are awesome!
When I retire (maybe 6 years) I would love to have some small adventures. I would love to plan a weekly 1 or 2 day trip someplace nearby that I've never discovered before. And maybe a few longer road trips
Your photos are beautiful !!
It's about time for your dad/daughter trip (no I'm not jealous-ha!) so Have a Wonderful time!!
Congrats on finishing school!

Guess what time I
woke up this morning?
Again... no clue!
No notes!
I'm going to go out
on a limb and say...

Sometime between
5am and noon.

Narrows it down a bit.

A bit...what time is checkout at the KOA?

I pulled over to take a quick
photo of him before he
hurried off to buy rocket
propelled roller skates
or the like.

Because of course that is what he is going to do!

I parked the car and
set out on foot.
The walk wasn't overly
strenuous, but if you had
mobility issues, it might be.

So I'll cross that off the list for Fran and I.

Eventually, I arrived at the
falls, themselves.

Well worth the hike, I think.

Very pretty!

Well because it's a
saline endorheic alkali
lake, of course!

Why else?

Now that you know...

What?
You have no idea what
that means?

Well, neither do I, really.
But that's what Google
told me.

Thank you for sharing with us what Google told you since I'm too lazy to go look it up.

The Okanagan Valley
in British Columbia
is one of Canada's
wine growing regions.
I'd had wines from there
before, so making a stop
here was a nice diversion.

Hello!

I came to the end of the path
and found the winery/restaurant.

And I see added it to your conglomerate holdings.

After tasting the wines,
I bought two bottles of
ice wine.

Niiice.

Medici's Gelateria.

Well worth the stop.
No idea what I had, now.
But I'm betting it was
probably two scoops.
And... if I had to guess...
Maybe the lime and the mirtillo?
No idea what "mirtillo" is...
but it appeals to me, so...

I would have had the Stracciatella because I don't get Gelato often enough and that's my favorite.

Maybe not so much the '46,
but the 1913... both with
original paint???

Wow.

Cool!

I looked up the hill.
A woman was standing
by her RV and calling down
to me.

"Didn't you know there's a
total ban on campfires?"

Oh.

I sadly and reluctantly
put out my fire.

Bummer. Probably due to risk of forest fires.....

Map over the last day:

I was wondering how close you were to Kamloops! I have been there and have a friend who lives there!

Did you see it in this chapter?

Yes, I mentioned that you invested in it as well.

What a journey! Your solo adventures are awesome!

Thank you!
And :welcome: to the TR!!

When I retire (maybe 6 years) I would love to have some small adventures. I would love to plan a weekly 1 or 2 day trip someplace nearby that I've never discovered before. And maybe a few longer road trips

I have a bit longer til
retirement.
But not much.
I do like your plans
though. :)

Your photos are beautiful !!

Thank you!! :goodvibes

It's about time for your dad/daughter trip (no I'm not jealous-ha!)

We’re sitting at the airport
waiting to board as I type this!

Have a Wonderful time!!

Thanks! :)

Congrats on finishing school!

I showed her your congrats. :)

She still had two more years
as now she will start on
Her B. Ed.

A bit...what time is checkout at the KOA?

I’m gonna go with...
Sometime between
5am and noon?

:rolleyes1

Because of course that is what he is going to do!

Of course!
I watch TV.
I know all about
coyotes.

So I'll cross that off the list for Fran and I.

I was thinking of you
guys when I wrote that.

Very pretty!

::yes::

Thank you for sharing with us what Google told you since I'm too lazy to go look it up.

That’s what a good TR
writer does.

No idea why I did it.

Like that do ya? ;)

And I see added it to your conglomerate holdings.

I like to diversify.

Very much so. :)

I would have had the Stracciatella because I don't get Gelato often enough and that's my favorite.

Really!!
That’s Kay’s fave too!

Right???

Bummer. Probably due to risk of forest fires.....

::yes::

I was wondering how close you were to Kamloops! I have been there and have a friend who lives there!

Now you know. :)

Yes, I mentioned that you invested in it as well.

Yikes! And you had JUST been sleeping in a flimsy little tent with this guy running around :scared1:

Eventually, I arrived at the
falls, themselves.

Well worth the hike, I think.

DSC06658_zpsphwifvcb.jpg

Stunning  I am assuming you had your trip-pod and that's how you got such amazing pictures?

Why is Spotted Lake
such a curious sight?
Well because it's a
saline endorheic alkali
lake, of course!

Makes perfect sense :thumbsup2

If you look closely at the
following photos I took,
you can just make out
the rings on the water.

DSC06680_zpslnrwvjdu.jpg

DSC06682_zpsbkzhlchp.jpg

Cool! I bet it's a pretty sight to see in the summer!

Mmmm… blueberries...
I picked one and...

DSC06689_zpsaigc7s75.jpg

Spat it out.

Blech!
Not blueberries.
Or if they were, they weren't
ripe yet or something.
Sour.
I have picked blueberries
before and they were very
low to the ground, so...
Maybe these were something else.

They kind of look like grapes? And you're at a winery, so…..

So when I saw this,
I was quite dismayed.

DSC06695_zpswnozp6x0.jpg

Just because they're not
the most intelligent marmots
in the world, doesn't mean
you have to call them slow.
And to tell everyone!

So rude!

Ahhhh….
This... now this is what
I've been waiting for all day!
Nice weather... beautiful evening...
crackling fire...

"EXCUSE ME!"

Jus wish I had some marshmallows
or hot dogs to...

"EXCUSE ME!!!"

I looked up the hill.
A woman was standing
by her RV and calling down
to me.

"Didn't you know there's a
total ban on campfires?"

Aw, bummer! But you know, Only YOU can prevent forest fires :thumbsup2 (Remember all the Smokey The Bear commercials?)

Later, after the sun went down
and the sounds of the campground
faded into slumber,
I crept out from my tent
to take a photo of the starry night.

DSC06700_zps3r0hffum.jpg

Wow :worship:

One more update and this
portion of the TR will be over,
I think.

Okay folks.

Sitting at the gate and
should be boarding soon

Already have things to
tell you.

Behave yourselves
while I’m gone.

Or not...

See you when I get back!!
:)

Safe travels!

As others have said, BEAUTIFUL photos! What amazing scenery!

Mmmmmm…. wine and gelato. Yum. :cloud9:

That's too bad about the campfire! Although I don't love that sitting in front of a campfire causes you to smell like a campfire, it is quite relaxing. At least you got to enjoy it for a little while!

As I drove to my first stop
of the day, I saw a coyote
crossing the road.
I have never seen a coyote.
They are not native to Newfoundland but around 10 years ago a hunter shot one, which caused a bit of a stir. They figured a couple came across on ice from the mainland. Their population has grown since and they are now being spotted in urban areas. One was seen just a couple streets over from mine last month. They make me a bit nervous, but it’s a new animal to us.

Eventually, I arrived at the
falls, themselves.

Well worth the hike, I think
I would say worth it. Lovely falls. Tough to see the backside of water on that one.

What happens is that as the summer
progresses, the water slowly
evaporates, leaving colourful
rings, or spots, on the water.
The scientist in me finds this interesting. The tourist in me disagrees. At least you didn’t go too far out of your way just for that.

Not blueberries.
Or if they were, they weren't
ripe yet or something.
Sour.
I have picked blueberries
before and they were very
low to the ground, so...
Maybe these were something else.
Definitely not blueberries. Maybe some kind of currant?
I pick blueberries every summer. They are lower to the ground (my back can attest to that) and are spread out more in clusters of 4-5 berries.

Medici's Gelateria.
Gelato is awesome. I love the different flavours.

Nice weather... beautiful evening...
crackling fire...
I find a campfire to be incredibly relaxing. But fire bans seem to happen more frequently lately. Yes, we do get bans here in the summer, despite it being a bit cooler and generally more rain than out West.

Gorgeous photos!

Glad you explained what that lake thing meant because I was about to ask Siri to tell me lol.

A ban on campfires?! I don't camp but roasting s'mores on a campfire would be the highlight to me.

Have a great Disney trip!

Why did the coyote cross
the road?

To get to the Acme store
of course.

Some things are obvious.

I pulled over to take a quick
photo of him before he
hurried off to buy rocket
propelled roller skates
or the like.

That's pretty cool that you got to see a coyote up close. Though I would be glad to be in the car. A few of them have been spotted around Toronto recently.

I didn't stay long.
The lake was on my way,
so I wasn't disappointed
overly much.
But I'm glad I didn't drive
too far out of the way
to see it.

I think if the lighting was different you might not be able to see the rings at all? But in the pictures it looks kinda cool...3 hour drive cool? Not sure...but...fun anyway!

The Okanagan Valley
in British Columbia
is one of Canada's
wine growing regions.

Love that area, really pretty. Was the driving really hilly? Asking because once we drove parts of the Coquihalla pass in an old rental minivan and we weren't sure we'd make it up some of those hills...it was a struggle!

This time tomorrowI will just be touching downin Orlando.Elle and I will be anxiouslyawaiting to get out andsee what warmth feels like.Guess what? It's flippin' snowing here again!!!

Can't wait to hear more about the epic trip. I will be nice to be warm for a change I'm sure. It's been crazy cold for May in these parts too.

Long time, no.... whatever. Haven’t been on the DIS in quite some time, and my first task was to search for Pkondz’s latest diatribe.

So here I am.

* takes a bow *
