New Credit Card Authorization Holds

Just got off the phone with A very reliable DVA and was told (she called to OKW and spoke with the supervisor, as I was holding). You can pre-load your Folio with Disney Gift card or Cash or your Bank/Debit Account once you arrive on property - any amount you want. I am taking my debit card off my account - this will avoid any $100 holds and I can still use my MagicBand up to the amount that I have in my Folio. Yes, I may not get the text that my room is ready but I can live with that. I am going in 28 days and have already done on-line check in so, I may or may not get the text. Point being that it seems if you want to avoid the holds - just pre-pay on your Folio and MB tap away.

I have not heard of this actually being possible - in fact, I've heard the exact opposite by many people who have tried. Good luck and report back, especially if you are successful.

IF this is true it is new.
Phone reps are notorious for giving incorrect information

My TA told me that I could add gift cards to my account, but if I want to use my magic band to charge back to the room I have to have a credit card on file. The same goes for mobile ordering, you must have a credit card on file.

I called back just to check again, with a different DVA and got the same answer. Yes to Disney Gift Cards, Cash or Debit used as cash - whatever amount I wanted to place on my Folio.

If you have money on your Folio, why would you not be able to use that available balance to charge on your MB? They already have the money. If you go over the allotted amount - then it would decline the transaction.

Do you know when on the fifth day? That's our sleep in day (after MK EMH until 2 am) and I'm wondering when I need to get there to use the gift cards.
No, I don't think there's a fixed time like there is on check out day.
I made it easy and went late at night on day 4 to pay off the balance instead.
That way, there wasn't anything to speak of on it to run through on day 5

Despite this be prepared to be denied when you arrive. Because 99.99% of the others who try this are denied. And it won't matter what you've been told by people on the phone, or how reliable they are. CM at the Resorts don't do it. And since that's who is doing it, not someone on the phone, that's who's answer you'll have to accept. Unfortunately
But, maybe you'll be the .1% who get's a CM that will do it

Please tell me how to avoid getting the $100 holds - after the first one. I am ok with one but not time after time. I am pre-paid for my vacation package and meal plan. We used our MB for everything else. If we stay under $100.00 a day- will we be ok? And is that $100.00 combined?(There are 4 of us).

Because it's not how their systems are set to operate. They don't have a cap on them to cut things off like that.
But as others have said, good luck to trying your method. It can't hurt to try but do go prepared to have a backup plan. Because the odds are not in your favor of it working. Others have failed in the attempt.

PS. I'm pretty good on acronyms, what does DVA stand for?

No one knows. It's a deep, dark mystery. I had 3 holds on day 1, and no more. And I don't know how that happened.
It was a 7 day trip, and went well over $100 a day.

Avoid using the MB - I suppose? Can you use GCs for anything you can use the MB for?

Ah, ok. Is this someone who is a DIsney employee? As in under their pay or something else? Never in all my years around here heard that phrase before. Guess it goes to show there's always a new one coming up, LOL
Yes. She has worked for Disney for 25 years. I use her for all my questions, incite and changes to my vacations.

Then I'm pretty shocked at her answer to you. Because no one has ever been able to put cash or gift cards down in advance on their room folios. Maybe those who work in reservations THINK guests can but those CM who actually checking the guests in won't do it. And the 2 simply never talk to tell either other how it actually works?

She called over to talk to OKW CM and she said it was ok???

Oh, and have you asked her about how the room charges will work? Since she seems to know about other things? Maybe she can shed light on it, more than we've gotten thus far

I have sent her an email - she is out till Monday. I will get as much info as I can. I am worried, not that I don't trust her, but I would rather be prepared than get stuck with holds all week. Since I did online check-in - my card can not be removed, I tried. They told me I could remove it once I arrive - and hopefully avoid the initial $100 hold.
