And that’s the Tea!!!
Totally agree they deserve better, including, in theory, equal pay to men. BUT, does the women's team bring in as much money (ticket sales, souvenirs, etc) as the men do? So where does the money come from to give them more pay?Congratulations to the US Women's team. Great game!
And please, all you Americans who have been cheering for you women's team, now it's your turn to support them in their fight to be treated fairly by the US Soccer Federation. They deserve better.
M.

Well there you go.
Well, considering my job requires me to spend company money and not bring it in, the answer to your question is "no". But it is logical to me that if the USWNT doesn't bring in as much money as the MNT (assuming a great disparity), then they shouldn't make as much. However, since that's not the case, it doesn't really matter. The women should be on the same salary/bonus structure as the men. It's hard to get a concrete number, but in general, yes they do.
Also, is your income directly based on the money you bring in? I've literally only ever heard this argument when people are talking about the USWNT.

And WNBA players have the same job. Should they get paid the same as NBA players despite the fact WNBA doesn't bring in as much $$? If the money is not there (which in this case it is), where do you want it to come from? And their job is not to advertise or sell merchandise or broadcast the game over the airwaves. Bringing in the revenue is not their job. Their job is to play well, score goals, and win, which they do better than everybody else.

Please don't make it sound like I've said they deserve to be paid less. I think this is at least the third post where I've said they deserve as much as the men.
Um, of course WNBA players should get paid the same as the men. Women and men should be paid equal pay for equal work (which has in fact been a law since 1963).
I'm not making it sound like that, I just disagree with your reasoning. In sports where the women "bring in more money," men are still paid the same as women. People would be up in arms if they weren't.
It's difficult to get a handle on all that because the primary sustainable revenue sources are from unified sponsorship and television deals where there's no breakdown. Their biggest single source of revenue is from Nike's sponsorship deal. The rest of their sponsorship is unified through MLS's for-profit marketing division, Soccer United Marketing. It sounds like they handle the TV and other marketing deals. They're not required to submit any breakdown beyond providing total numbers to the USSF, which is a nonprofit corporation.Totally agree they deserve better, including, in theory, equal pay to men. That's what I've been trying to say. If the money isn't there, you can't pay it.I understand what you are saying, and I agree I wish women were paid equally. However, as in the WNBA I understand why they aren’t making as much as NBA. The revenue generated between those two is vastly different. NBA makes 100 times more than the WNBA. Sad, but true. You therefore cannot pay the same because if female players received those multi million dollar contracts, the league would be broke.
I'd say they're more successful. That doesn't mean better. I'd say the competition on the men's side is tougher than on the women's side. The USWNT should get paid MORE than the USMNT. They're better.
They could play each other; winner takes all.I'd say they're more successful. That doesn't mean better. I'd say the competition on the men's side is tougher than on the women's side.
That would be interesting to see. They could play each other; winner takes all.
