Jambo! The newest AKL Information thread

12/3-12/6 AKL for us! This is our first Deluxe, we have stayed at POP twice and POR once. We'll be doing a split stay with CSR this time...we seem to be having an upward trend for our resorts .

We will be in a standard room, does anyone know if we need to put in a request for two queen beds, or if this is likely? I know some rooms have bunks, so we'd rather avoid that. A partial savannah view would be superb, but two beds is definitely a higher priority for us.

If 2 queens is important, then it is safest to make the request.

We got put into a king bedroom at AoA once [and we HAD made the request for 2 Q], which doesn't work for us because due to medical equipment we need separate sleeping surfaces. We got it changed, but we make absolutely sure now we ALWAYS make the request [if they mess it up, fine, we'll deal with it, but if we didn't make it that is on us].

We’re at AKL now, staying club level. Service is excellent, food and drinks amazing. As I suspected, not being on the same floor as the lounge bothers me, but that’s just personal preference. Now for the bad news. We asked for Kudu trail to avoid any renovation work. The presidential suite is just above us and what luck, it’s the only thing still being renovated. We came back for naps this afternoon to the sounds of pounding and drills so loud we had to yell just to hear each other. This room should have never been available. They offered to move us down the hall but as much stuff as we have, that would be 2 hrs packing up and unpacking. Not at all acceptable to us without a room upgrade for our trouble. They tried, but nothing is open for the week and we didn’t want to move more than once. They ended up giving us a significant discount on our stay and letting us have a second room at no charge to use for afternoon breaks when we need them. We’re going to make the best of it, but it’s frustrating when problems happen that are so easily preventable. I’m grateful that the staff at AKL did what they could.

We booked 1 night CL at AKL before our September vacation. I'm super excited for every second we'll be there. We're doing a resort day to try and get as many experiences as we can in our day/night there.

Disney called me today to see if we needed anything and I was genuinely confused as to why they would call. He had to explain it was part of the club level experience. The magic has started already!

Staying at AKL soon but not club level or even Savana view. We will have a view of the parking lot or roof. Are the rooms the same

That's frustrating! We stayed here in Jan 2018 and had the cooking smell from the Mara in our room, my wife was pregnant and it made her feel sick. They let us move to Beach Club due to lack of rooms!

Out of interest, how are the refurbs going? I would guess most rooms will be done by the time we arrive on 24th November

Question for those who have stayed in the DVC villas in Jambo house recently. Do they still have drip style or Keruig coffee makers. TIA>

Checked in to Jambo House yesterday and I’m beyond thrilled so far! The hotel is stunning, the pool is great (we got kicked out yesterday for ‘unscheduled maintenance’, which probably means something disgusting), and the food we’ve had so far from the Mara was quite tasty. Some of the DVC room furnishings are worn, but that’s not a big deal. I haven’t seen any sign of the cranes, so either they aren’t there, or they were so unobtrusive I missed them. Either way it’s all good. I’m sitting on my balcony drinking tea and watching two deer mock-fight. Life is good!

I’m sitting on my balcony drinking tea and watching two deer mock-fight. Life is good!

I’m out on the balcony with a mimosa and breakfast. Room issues aside, I love this place!

We are also staying CL at AKL and also asked for Kudu trail as we wanted a renovated room. We are about one-third of the way down the hallway and can also hear all of the construction noise. Dissappointing, but at least we have the club lounge to retreat to. Agreed - the food and drinks in the lounge has been terrific.

As loud as it is in our room, I imagine it can be heard from several rooms on each side at least. We’re in the second section of Kudu. If you haven’t, contact guest services. While they can’t stop the noise, they are very willing to compensate as well they should. Guests should be made aware of construction issues when they book.
