Again, find me someone that pays Rack Rate at Disney. I dare say they do not.
I don't go to the places you have mentioned so no clue what or how they compare. Price you've quoted here seems about the same to me. Not cheaper
I'm only comparing to what I paid on a drive across country last week. Or what we pay when we stay overnight in Knoxville or Nashville. Any of those are within the same exact range as Disney and most, have way fewer services. The only exception was the Resort in Scottsdale. DH mentioned when we walked in that it was just like going to a Disney resort. Even had a scented lobby, views, etc. That was the only room that equaled Disney's resort services and was less expensive based purely on the promo I booked with. Their rack rate was much higher.
As other have said over and over again, don't like the prices. Easy. Don't stay there. What is the big deal? Some are ok with them, some aren't. Neither side is right or wrong (or brainwashed)
Not saying one is right and the other is wrong. As for most not paying rack rate, I wouldn't agree with that. There aren't AAA rates any more. The majority of people staying at WDW are not passholders. I would be willing to bet most people go to the website and book whatever hotel they want. Probably nobody on this board, but this board represents maybe 3% of the people going to Disney.
What I'm not agreeing with is your assesment that the premium Disney Deluxe resorts go for $299 per night. Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Contemporary, Yacht and Beach. I don't see it. Here are the rack rates for 2019, for a standard room during value season at the following resorts:
Grand Floridian - $646
Polynesian - $508
Yacht Club - $421
For the GF to be priced at $299 per night, Disney would be discounting the room by more than 50%. For the Poly to be there, there would have to be a 40% discount. And again, these are 2019 low season rates. The highest current offer on Disney's website is a 20% discount. I believe in the past (many years ago) I saw discounts as high as 30-35%, but sorry, never 50%.
