Leaving your stuff behind in resort laundry rooms? Is this a new thing?

I'm reading Facebook pages (one of them) and there are all these posts about people leaving things in the laundry room at the resort that they aren't going to bring home.

Toiletries (unopened I'm assuming), detergent, water, etc. I get that (I guess), but I saw a picture that had clothing - shorts, shirts, bathing suits and even a pair of sandals!!! The whole counter was full of people's "stuff". It looked like a garage sale quite frankly.

So I've never seen this before at the hotels we've stayed at.
Do other hotels do this and I've missed it?

Do people really take people's shoes? :confused3

I've heard of people sort of "pixie dusting" the next person when they had to buy laundry soap or something and didn't have room to take it with them. They just put a note on it that it's for anyone who needs some.

I think it's nice, actually. Why should everyone buy a whole bottle and throw most of it out?

I've also left waters in the room for the same reason. - bought a case, didn't quite finish it, and you can't exactly take liquids that size in your carry-on.

But I didn't know it happened with clothes. :confused3

I get laundry soap and water, etc. But clothing? Shoes? The pic I saw truly looked like a garage/yard sale. :rotfl: And then someone posted that the other laundry room looked like a store today because it had so much stuff.

It's no big deal, it's not hurting anyone. I just thought it was strange to leave behind clothing...

Yeah, I see how that could easily get out of hand. - I wonder if the staff comes in periodically and donates it all to charity or something?

I also wonder if some of it wasn't left on purpose? - Maybe individual things clung to the inside of the washer or drier and the next person found them and threw them on the table.

I read they clean it out at midnight? But not sure what they do with it.

Yes! Going to stay in new tower CL in January. Can’t wait never stayed there before

We are trying the Tower in May, our first stay too. First stay ever at a moderate actually! :) The Tower seems like it will feel like a deluxe though, so super excited.

We are the same- always Deluxe. Went the first year Disney opened and stayed at Contemporary. Only stayed there or Polynesian all my visit. Meeting my DS who just moved to Houston there for our 3rd mom/son trip! So excited to try.

I disagree a bit when you say it isn’t hurting anyone. Someone has to clean up others mess. Not very considerate IMHO

I totally agree with you. If someone has items to donate, they should drop them by a donation center. Don't leave them for the resort to have to dispose of.

I just never heard of this before. Maybe it's only a Coronado Spring thing?

Maybe people leave clothes and shoes because they run out of luggage space? Overbought souvenirs and don’t want to pay crazy prices for extra luggage weight. They leave it out thinking maybe someone can use it instead of throwing it out.

We’ve left water and snacks before and I just give it to bell services when they come to get our bags. They’re always appreciative and tell me they’ll share it with the rest of the crew.

I've been on the DIS for around 20 years, and I can recall this being done for a long time. Though it used to be more of a drop off for a certain person. Leaving clothes is a bit much, but some have left umbrella strollers, etc. Sad the staff have to clean it up, but if if it was that bad I'm sure Disney would have a sign about not doing it.

I need my clothes. I don't have special vacation only clothing - whatever I bring must come home with me! :p

Yes people post in the CBR Facebook group all the time. Many of the travelers are visitors from the UK and taking everything home with them would probably put them over their luggage weight limit, or would be too much trouble to take (like strollers), and then other things they just don't need back home like sunscreen and misting fans.
