Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

I was told by a friend of a cast member that the Skyliner is going to require a $30 upcharge to your tickets and that you would have to scan you ticket in order to ride this. Doesn't make much sense to me but my understanding was that it was like the monorail/boat/bus, free to everyone no matter what.

I don't put it past Disney to try something like that, but it would be a logistical nightmare. I highly doubt it. I think their additional fee will come in the form of higher room rates at the affected resorts.

And how many ears and mouths did that alleged info pass thru before it got to the cm whose the friend of your friend?

True, I highly doubt it's accurate in the slightest. Didn't know if anyone had heard it. Supposedly the CM is one of the testers for it. Again just information I was told.

To me, it doesn't make sense because some people choose not to go to parks or have park tickets. Then they are excluded from a service of transportation that is not within a park.

So I am just curious about the procedure going on with the Skyliner. Would this be normal protocol to prepare the system days before a storm, or is this taking longer because it is the first time and brand new? I am just wondering because parks close early tomorrow, but if the Skyliner were open, it would have been out of commission days before the actual storm for guests. Just trying to wrap my head around the whole process and what it means going forward.

I think that the timing happened because the planets aligned, so to speak. At the time they started gathering them in, the storm was forecast with a likelihood to make a direct hit on Orlando, and forecast to do it on Labor Day. It made sense to get them off the line then, and besides, since it wasn't open yet, no guests were inconvenienced at all by whatever schedule they chose. They may have known about the problem cable all along, or it may have only revealed itself when the tension came off the line, but either way, it was nicely serendipitous that the storm slowed down and allowed a really good window to work on it without inconveniencing guests.

I believe that if the system had been running, they probably would have waited at least one more day, and possibly two, to take all the cars off-line, though I'm sure that hotel occupancy rates at the time would figure into the decision somewhat.

There is no doubt the cost of The POP and AoA will (have) increased with one reason being the skyliner, but seems to me all resort costs have went up right along with them. We got The POP for $180 a night, which is by no means good, but I'm okay with it. So yeah, you pay one way or another. But no charge for using skyliner itself.

The upcharge has been included in the resort room rate. I believe that has and will continue to happen but there is no way Disney will charge for it separately.

Same thing with buses, boats and Monorails. Each resort has a line item in their budgets for transportation. The more options or frequency, the more the resort is charged and that is reflected in the rack rate.

Indirectly all guests are paying for your transportation options, there just isn't a separate charge that you see.

I look at it that all resorts are getting the "Galaxy's Edge" price increase - but those on the skyliner will see more of an increase than the other resorts

Yes, CBR, AOA and POP got a pretty sizable price bump. I was fortunate to book before that. The fall discounts were still more expensive than my original rack rate.

:stir:

This is very unlikely. The resorts along the line are paying for the Skyliner in higher room prices. Have you seen the maintenance fees per point at the Riviera? They are crazy high and more than likely due to the Skyliner among other things.

Speculating: maybe on 2 towers to hold the cable in place beyond the section they're resplicing. Put another way, to isolate the section of cable they're working on.

Didn't it say via Blog Mickey that the "crews secure lines for hurricane Dorian"? Was Blog Mickey too premature or incorrect?

It raises the question though whether Pop Century and Art of Animation will now be consistently and significantly more expensive than All Star Resorts.
Consistently. Yes.
Significantly? It really depends on your dates.

Next August, for my dates, Pop standard is about $40 more than a standard at an AllStar. But a moderate is still about $100 more than Pop. Rates can really fluctuate between them though. Over Christmas next year, the price difference between AllStars and Pop seems considerable.

I feel like they have already been consistently more expensive - but sometimes POP was only a few dollars more a night. Now I think it will be more like $20-40 more a night and people will have to decide if Skyliner is worth it

And dates I picked in February Pop is only maybe 60 less than the moderates and 30 more then all stars
