Walt Disney World Date Based Ticket System FAQ • Read First Page

We are buying a one day date specific ticket and are wondering can we add the hopper option during the day of use if we decide we want to go to a different park.
 
These prices are set in advance and will not fluctuate like airline prices. Basically, certain days are more or less expensive based on the perceived demand.
Just to confirm, once date-based ticket pricing is posted it will not change? For example, June 25th 2020 is now $128 for a 1-Day Ticket with Admission to 1 Park Per Day, and this will not ever change? Thank you in advance.

Things can always change but that is the pricing and system for right now. Those are Disney’s words in describing this. As always Disney can and will do what they want. To lock in best pricing buy early.

Thank you for your reply :). Have you ever noticed the ticket prices change with this new date-based tickets system? I only ask because you mention to buy early. Maybe this is because, as you also mentioned, Disney can do what they want.

They did increase prices when they expanded the calendar.

Just to be clear: prices will change if there is a general ticket price change (increase), but not until then.

Thanks Dave! That make sense. I was hoping for a reduction but that will never happen. At least I now know what I'll be paying prior to any price increases.
 
I have two back-to-back reservations at the same resort. The first reservation is for two nights that I booked myself and I purchased a one-day ticket for a specific date during that time frame. The second reservation is booked through a travel agency and includes room + a 5 day MYW park hopper ticket. I do see both reservations with all tickets in the MDE app. So my question is, when I go to use the one-day ticket with the first reservation, will the system automatically apply just that ticket and not the park hopper when I tap my magic band? Or do I need to do something at guest services prior to entering? Thanks.

Your best bet is checking with guest service to make sure that the one day is prioritized to be used first.

Thanks for the info. If you don’t mind, I have a couple more questions. Would I need to go by guest services again when I re-enter the park in the evening if I had it prioritized in the morning upon first entry? Also, is there a way to verify that the correct ticket was used? TIA!

If the first ticket is prioritized it should be still prioritized for the use later in that same day.

There really isn’t a convenient way to make sure. You can see the active tickets on your My Disney Experience but the one day ticket won’t “expire” or go away until it’s been used and the full day is passed.

In the past I think they would not expire until the first use, but the new tickets need to be used within the use period correct? Can I get a refund or somehow keep them active for another unspecified date in the future?

The tickets will expire, but they will hold their value so that you can use the value toward purchasing valid tickets at a future date. Even if you paid the extra $ for a flexible date ticket, even those have expiration dates (they don't have any options for non-expiring tickets anymore). As long as they are completely unused, their value can be used toward valid tickets later on. You would be responsible for keeping track of the unused expired ticket as I believe they drop off of MDE once they expire.

They aren't refundable if you bought them a la carte - if tickets are included in a vacation package you have until 30 days before the trip to cancel the package with a full refund.
 
Hello. I just wanted to give an update on my situation I asked about a few months ago and I’ve seen asked on here other times.

My kids and I have APs and had a free dining package in August. We didn’t use the 4 day park hoppers and were told they would retain their value for future tickets. After our trip, the tickets expired and disappeared from MDE as expected. I called Disney just to ensure they were still somewhere on their system. The phone CM assured me they were but I couldn’t do anything with them over the phone, only in person at Guest Relations.

I made a solo trip this past week and visited Epcot GR to use these expired tickets towards tickets for our booked May trip. The CM scanned my band and said I didn’t have any tickets just an AP. I explained my situation again and what the phone CM said. She said they had no way of seeing my guest profile, only what tickets were on my magicband and gave me a number to call. I told her I already called the number and they said I had to do it at GR in person. She suggested going to my resort for help. I knew this was bad information so I moved on and went to the MK GR next. The CM there was much more helpful and was able to pull up the expired tickets and their exact values, which was over $1500. It took about 25 minutes at her window but all I have is a file opened with the value in it. She said they were granting me a one time exception to use the expired ticket value but not until I arrive in May can I actually purchase the tickets. I told her that that means I can’t make any FP so she added 3 FP for 3 days of our 7 day trip that they will help us get upon arrival. This stresses me out because my past experiences with GR are extremely hit or miss and I hate the thought of arriving in May with no tickets or FP.

I just wanted to give a heads up since I thought this would be a relatively simple and accepted process. But she made it sound like they are doing it for me as an exception. As AP holders we always did this in the past with MYW tickets from free dining packages, using them later to upgrade. I’m still not sure why I couldn’t just buy my May tickets at the GR window? Anyway, YMMV.

I have read multiple accounts about expired package tickets requiring a lot of time and effort to be able to be re-applied to a future ticket purchase, and, more importantly, not being able to book FPs in advance. We currently have APs, so these accounts are really helpful. Thank you!

I often see the recommendation here that if you have an AP, you can "save" the FD tickets for a future trip, but with the new date-based tickets and expiration dates, it's not worth the time and effort that it will take given the large cost of the tickets, and the downside of not being able to book the FPs in advance. I think that with an AP, most will do better getting an AP discount on room and dining (and if there is a lot of dining, getting a TiW card) than tying that money on tickets.

I agree! We had just always saved our FD tickets in the past and applied them to our APs, but after this experience with the new date based tickets, never again for us! This is the first year since Free Dining started that we don’t have a FD bounceback booked. It’s just way too much time, effort, and trouble now.
