Thanks @Andysol - Our own @Lain has covered this a few times. I'm sort of kicking myself for not asking for a retention offer before I paid my annual fee yesterday. I might do it anyway as I'm sure it hasn't posted to them yet as I did bill pay and it takes them a couple days.
I figured @Lain would have it covered :)

I’ve been out of town so haven’t even read a single post in several days.

Any negative DPs of taking a retention offer then downgrading the Brilliant to the legacy Bonvoy? I always assume accepting a retention offer means keeping the “product” open for another year.
As long as you wait over a month, you’re fine. It’s a partial refund but I haven’t seen any negative repercussions.

I've been up all night. DH snoring awful. Ugh. #marriage

Another advantage of all the kids grown & out of the house - spare bedrooms. DH snores terribly and I dread staying in hotel rooms on vacation!

Not a debit. Just the regular, old credit red card.

I’m shocked no one else seems to have gotten this upgrade. All the letters I received from target acted like this was done new thing that they were doing and all credit red cards were being changed.

I barely use mine also, use mostly discounted Target GC I get elsewhere, maybe I will just go ahead and cancel mine before this happens.

I use mine a ton (dd works at target so I get her discount too) but thinking i May just open a debit. No reason to keep the credit since discount is the same.

OK so who else was in marching band in high school? @SouthFayetteFan and now @amalone1013 ? Who else?

My 15 year old CANNOT WAIT to drive and quite frankly, with his band commitments, I can't wait until he can either. Supposedly his dad will have a hand me down car for him by June when he turns 16. Then we get to figure out car insurance... yay!

HS - clarinet in both marching & concert/symphonic band. Some of my best high school memories! Travel was limited to away football games, in-state DCI-style competitions, Mardi Gras parades and band camp! Oh, and one memorable perfomance in the Superdome.

LA had the rural exception (14yo) on DLs back when I was in Driver's Ed. Thank goodness my boys didn't start that early! We've got some of the highest insurance rates in the nation, and what feels like some of the worst drivers. I don't think my nerves could have withstood an extra two years of worry.

I haven't gotten anything on my RedCard going to a MC. I wouldn't be too happy. But have you checked CK to see if it really gave it a new opening date? I got a ton of those notices when Chase changed the name they used to report cards to CK, but it was just the same cards with a different name.

I want to thank everyone who helped me with my points transfer question, but today DH said "I don't want to go in August. It's too hot and crowded. How about October?" So, I'm on hold for booking something for another couple months (unless he changes his mind again.):rolleyes1🙄

We cant take ILs anywhere anymore. It's too stressful. Things always come up.

Yesterday BIL had a doctor's appointment where they told him that they think his progress is so slow because his immune system is still attacking itself, so they want to start a new treatment. Then this morning DH wakes up to a middle of the night text from him. Why are you up? Because SILs father had a major heart attack last night.

Of course I waited all of this time to buy their non refundable tickets (MIL and Aunt) and just bought them last night before we got the news. And we're in the non-refundable territory - think it's one night for the cancellation penalty :(

Again, obviously everyone's health is most important but could anything just be easy and go right for once? Part of the point of this was getting MIL away for a couple days to not worry about things. This is like the cruise all over again :(

Oh no, how horrible for all involved!

Per DoC:

Walmart Launches New Credit Card with Capital One; Offers 5% Back for Online Purchases & Introductory 5% In-Store
https://www.doctorofcredit.com/walm...for-online-purchases-introductory-5-in-store/From DoC's Post:
The launch will include two new credit cards. The Capital One Walmart Rewards Mastercard and the store card version called The Walmart Rewards Card. Both cards will earn unlimited:
  • 5% back on purchases at Walmart.com, inclusive of Walmart Grocery Pickup and Delivery
  • 5% back on in-store purchases when using Walmart Pay for the first 12 months after approval as a special introductory offer
  • 2% back on Walmart purchases in stores outside of the introductory offer
  • 2% back on restaurants and travel
  • 1% percent back everywhere else with the Capital One Walmart Rewards Mastercard version
Other details:
  • No annual fee
  • No foreign transaction fee on the Capital One Walmart Rewards Mastercard version
  • The ability to redeem rewards at any time for travel, gift cards, during online checkout at Walmart.com, for recent purchases and statement credits
  • Card will be available for use instantly upon approval
No sign-up bonus other than the "intro in-store 5% back".

Not sure where this card fits in to a strategy at this point, but figured it was worth pointing out.

EDIT: As a reminder, there are mixed DPs on whether "Store Cards" count towards 5/24. Don't assume you're safe to apply for the store card here. I've seen DPs where they were apparently counted and people had to call in to recon and dispute them with the recon agent.

EDIT2: Walmart sells a lot of gift cards online:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Disney-25-Gift-Card/55350216So is this like another potential "Target Red Card 5% Disney gift card play"?? Truth be told, I'm not always up on how this stuff works. lol

Friendly reminder that Southwest Airlines next schedule release is expected to occur on Thursday September 26th (1 week from TOMORROW).
  • Currently SW is offering flights through 3/6/20 and this release will take their schedule out to 4/13/20 (covering popular spring break dates)
  • In my experience, flights typically go “live” between 7am and 9am Eastern. HOWEVER, The last 2 releases actually did not go live until 10:40 and 9:20am Eastern respectively.

I had a Target card that I never used. I went to use it at Target one day and it had been closed. I didn't reopen because by then I was watching my card counts. Don't recall getting anything from Target but I was really good at not opening all my mail - stuff where I knew I didn't need to make a payment so probably tossed any notices. I'm just not a huge Target shopper.

I'm not a huge Target shopper either, and the few times I've been in Target lately I haven't had the redcard with me. I was afraid I would miss the opt-out letter and get upgraded.

That's what I have, too. To take a slot wouldn't they have to do a hard pull and wouldn't they have to ask you first? I haven't received any emails either.

When I called to cancel and mentioned the upgrade thing, the guy said I would get a letter about opting out. My interpretation is that the notice will come snail mail rather than email.

Nothing is showing on either of our CK accounts reflecting the change to a MasterCard.

Fingers crossed that it doesn't count as a new account. Being so close to 4/24 and not shopping at Target hardly at all, I feel better with my account closed.

Wait wait wait....what did I miss about the Target card? What are they upgrading? I have DH at 4/24, I cannot afford to have a slot lost to his stupid Target card. The only reason I'm keeping it open is because it's so old.

Yeah. Like, I was not wishing any medical issues on SILs family... but she is so dang USELESS anyways, that all I see here is that she puts a bunch more stress and pressure on BIL and he's not supposed to have that as it could cause a relapse. Her uselessness I touched on before continues. BIL has even slipped up talking on the phone mentioning doing things his doctor told him he is not allowed to do, ie taking out the trash or carrying in a lot of groceries, things like that.

This got me to thinking, because I’m at Costco waiting for my tire rotation..
I wonder if it would be good to buy VGC at Costco with my Costco visa. I assume I’d get the % back for the cc purchase so that might erase the fee, then use with serve?
