Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER RESORT Information & Questions

We just checked out from our 2 night stay and just checked in at Beach Club for the rest of our vacation. We enjoyed the pool and the food at Sassagoula Float Works was really good! Only complaints are the air conditioning was horrible. We took it down to 65 but it never got below 74. The room was sticky. Second problem was the smoking area. Really? Right in the middle where the fountain is? The stench lingers with all the trees. Walking anywhere near it made me nauseous. Unfortunately our room faced the fountain so our first smell as we left our room was not pleasant.

Sorry to hear about your problems, and glad that you enjoyed to pool and food court!

I know this won’t help you now you’ve checked out, but in case anyone else has problems with their A/C or heat in the future: Call front desk/maintenance. We had an issue during one of our stays at FQ, and within a couple of hours they sent a technician who replaced the entire window unit. We were there in the room and it was quite an efficient operation!

Hope you enjoy your stay at the Beach Club!

We survived lol. We live in GA so kinda use to the humidity. The room was nice just wrong location. If we ever book there again I will do pool or river view to get away from the fountain.

Final thoughts on our stay at POFQ. The resort is one of the prettiest I've seen. It's quaint and the smallness is wonderful. It is spotless, but honestly, the noise from them using a blower and power washing every morning destroyed the ambience. Not sure why they need to do that there when I rarely encounter so much cleaning going on at other resorts, but it was a daily event. If you aren't at the resort from 9-11, it's nothing that will bother you though. Again, housekeeping was terrible, even after my complaint. Bad enough that I stopped tipping and I've never done that. The room itself was very nice, no complaints at all other than the gap around the door is probably responsible for the collection of love bugs in the toilet and tub each morning- housekeeping clearly wasn't cleaning the tub because they were never removed, had to rinse the tub out for showers and baths in the evenings. Food was delicious. On the advice from here, I gave the shrimp and grits a try- something I would never do because I don't like grits- but it was amazing and I ate my weight in beignets. I am not back on my diet to knock off the pounds I put on! Pool was fun, my grandson enjoyed it.

I ended up using Uber to get to the parks other than the MK- bus timing was spotty and the sharing was irritating and unpredictable as to when it would happen. Coming back we used the busses and was happy with that. Sharing wasn't an issue as POFQ is the first stop.

Overall, lovely resort but too many issues that are negatives for us to return. I don't regret staying there, just won't do it again.

That would be a big issue for me (well, my husband who has lung problems). You might want to alert management to reconsider the location of the smoking area. My biggest disappointment when we are there is that the smoking areas seem to be all the best spots for sitting and relaxing. I heard that there is an email address for the manager of the resort available in the rooms. Since you have already checked out, maybe someone here can provide it.

I must admit it annoys me a bit that they put smoking spots in the most desirable scenic relaxing locations around the resort. If they have to be there at all (the parks have removed them completely) then they really ought to be near the parking lot areas.

The contact link for sending messages about your stay is now http://diz.sv/frenchstay . Don't be concerned that it's a survey format, it does go directly (and immediately) to the resort management team. They used to offer an email address for feedback, but of course that quickly got abused with people sending advanced room requests, etc. so they've switched to a web form instead.

The smoking areas weren’t an issue for me. They are located far from the buildings and there were plenty of shady areas to just sit. None are located close to the pool or main lobby.

Yeah, my favorite spot in FQ (the frog fountain by Building 6) is a smoking area. It's beautiful and peaceful but can be wrecked by cigarette smoke. Still, I enjoy it immensely, and luckily I'm usually the only person there around 6am when I have my why-am-I-up-so-early Disney breakfast.

Questions about the type of coffee machines they have in room, can it be used to boil water? We are arriving around 11pm-12am and no food options will be available there, so just wondering if it's a good idea to bring instant / cup noodles to eat for that night.

It's a really basic, low capacity Cuisinart. I don't think it would get the water hot enough to make noodles. It barely makes coffee!

We stayed there 5 days, in and out of the resort at varying times. I saw smokers at the dock area smoking section, never saw one smoking in any garden area I passed by.

It's pretty bad at making coffee, I doubt seriously you could do anything else with it. If you're flying, there are a ton of places to eat where you could pick something up at the airport after you land. If driving, I'd grab something before coming into the resort.

If you're flying into MCO you will be hard pressed to find much even open! That darned place closes up earlier than you'll be landing, we've been caught short ourselves when we arrive that late. It's like walking thru a ghost town!! There is a 24 hr McDees in the main terminal as well as a 24 hr Starbucks that you'll want to hunt down before you get on the bus or you'll be realllly hungry by morning

Thank you both for the input. Looks like we'll be having airport food that night! I am so excited for this trip as it will be our first on-site stay!

We just got back as well. We loved the size of the resort, the quietness, and the pool. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. The food wasn’t amazing, but nothing is perfect. I did like the beignets and breakfast and loooved the Pina-colavas.
We opted out of housekeeping but had no problems getting extra towels when we asked. Overall, we were very happy with the resort and round definitely go with it again - unless we could afford a deluxe, lol!
Do they give $10 per night gift cards for refusing mousekeeping? Also, when you request more towels, do you also get more coffee? Thanks!

Yes. They will bring you towels, but honestly I never got more coffee and I did not decline housekeeping! I would hope if you asked for it specifically, they would.

Can you request bed guards? Or is it best to take my own? Travelling with my 3 and 5 year old and just realised by watching videos how high the beds are

Many thanks
