Guests Reportedly Asked Not to Use Any Wall-Mounted Beds at Disney’s Riviera Resort December 25, 2019

In the case of the bed that collapsed, the story I read was that the frame came off the wall and pinned the (adult) guest on the mattress underneath it. It was heavy, and took two adults to lift it off her. She wasn't much physically injured, just shook up, but imagine if that were a solo guest sleeping in a tower studio. I agree that this is definitely a risk-mgmt issue. The frames will end up double-anchored to the walls, just in case, but it will take a bit of time to get them all done.
Ok so the sofa pull down bed actually detached from the wall. I was unsure as I knew a 5th sleeper unit detached from the wall as well, but I can defiantly see why they pulled them out of service abruptly. Those are big pieces of furniture and I would not want to have them falling on me in the middle of the night. Hopefully they can find a way to adequately attach these to the wall with some built in redundancy instead of relying on one set of anchor points. I see they pulled these type of beds out of service at SSR that were recently installed as part of the ongoing refurb to look them over as well.
Thank goodness nobody was hurt in these incidents.

No that was the 5th sleeper. The sofa pull down just undid itself when a large man sat on the couch as the pull down are apart of the wall and not mounted like the 5th sleeper

I'm guessing the room configurations will remain the same, they'll have a crew go in and make sure each pull down bed is secured properly to the wall. It will take a bit of time. They may need to open the wall, put cross braces on the metal studs, patch the wall, repaint (maybe, maybe not if it is hidden by the bed) and re-secure the bed to the wall. In the scheme of things, a relatively easy fix, but time consuming.

Weigh in before check in?
Doubt that, but I have never once seen a suggestion on weight for the murphy beds in Poly or BRV, and given their configuration there has to be a recommended range. Anything wall-mounted ever has a weight recommendation, as anyone who has installed shelves or cabinets can state confidently. Studs only do much.

Nothing was sold as sleeping 5 prior to VGF.
exactly my point.

Beds and fixtures are subject to change. I would never expect a unit to adjust downward, but the means of how they meet sold capacity is certainly open at 7, 14, 21 years and beyond.

Yes and no. Under florida law, you can not "substantially" change what was purchased. So going from real beds to a sofa beds would likely not be allowed...hence the continuance of two real beds in OKW studios, rather than a bed and sofa or fold down. Likely going from a real bed with a standard mattress to a fold a bed would be considered a "substantial" change.

Husband and I had a small debate about this. He said well you have to be safe, if they’re not made well then you have to sleep on mattresses on the floor what else can you do? I was like um I’d be so mad!! Especially with high point season in place or peak cash prices. I get that it’s a new resort and will have kinks to work out, but I still would be upset

I agree that it would be something that shouldnt be happening and it would be frustrating to have to use an air mattress or switch resorts..However, accidents happen and while yes, this is a big deal, there really is only so much they could do last mInute to ensure safety.

Now, if there was no offer at all to move them to another resort the next day, or compensation offered for continued agreement to use an air mattress, then yes, I would be upset and actually complain.

Or Disney may look at it as "substantially similar." That buys them a lot of latitude, apparently.
Except, through two full renovations and many soft renovations at OKW since 1992, the configuration has not changed.

Though didn't some of the dedicated 2 Beds (at BCV or BWV) have a sleeper sofa and queen bed in the second bedrooms, where now the second bedroom is two dedicated queen beds in all the dedicated 2 Beds. I could have sworn I read that on here somewhere, but I suppose I could be making it up.

The dedicated that have/had the sleeper sofa was because (according to DVC) the room size specifications were off. They could be they changed them out during a remodel with a more space efficient bed frame. According to some other websites, some of the dedicated units are still off, with some have two beds and some having a sleeper sofa and bed.

Yes, it was at BCV. All dedicated two bedrooms have two queen beds in the second bedroom. It used to be you had to book it to get the bedroom with the two queen beds.

So, I wonder if going from a sofa or Murphy bed to a regular bed could be seen as an upgrade in relation to timeshare law, but going the other way wouldnt?

Interesting fact though!

Can someone link to an article that describes just what happened with the Queen Murphy bed? I have only seen 3 screenshots of a post somewhere that a man was sitting on a couch. We are checking in tomorrow and I haven’t heard anything more, and saw a post on social media of someone checking in to RIV yesterday who specifically asked about sleeping in the Murphy beds and who was told that they had been checked out. Does anyone have any updates from the last 24 hours?

I have yet to find an article about the situation other than the screenshots going around as you said
