My older child turns 17 this year. Ugh. I got clobbered by tax reform last year.
The tax reform really helped us during last year's tax season b/c the 16 yr old got us 2k( I believe previously 1k) and the older ones, which had been zeroed out, now earned $500 apiece for the other dependent credit.

Sorry you got 7-10. I would wait it out until letter personally, but I don’t like to call. Did you lower limits before? Could you have accidentally used wrong players SSN? It has happened here multiple times. Can be easy to mess something simple up. Hope it works out. Did you ever get your CIP points?

I hate calling people haha. I didn't lower limits. I applied using my EIN for my business so the SSN shouldn't have been a problem?

Never got my CIP points :( I called and they said no dice on those.

So now I am thinking about possibly thinking about Costa Rica for a Christmas week trip. Are the resorts mostly geared toward beach things? We'd be more interested in hikes or wildlife type things.
All kinds of different places. Lots of beachy resorts, but many parts of the country also have amazing wildlife reserves - lots of hiking to look for monkeys and birds. Also lots of kayaking to see wildlife. And the volcano/hotsprings region with more mountainous terrain. The place we are looking at is a beach resort, but offers a bunch of other activities, including hiking, crafts, surfing, kayaking.

Last time we stayed at a resort in quite a remote area and did a rainforest hike (saw lots of monkeys) and a boat trip, plus just the stuff we saw around the resort (we were traveling with a 4 year old, so we didn't do much that was adventurous, but there were all kinds of options). There may be places that are just built up hotels on the beach, but that has not been our experience there.

Its a small country, but a lot of the roads between places are not very good, so its best to pick a spot and do things in the vicinity - short distances can take a looooong time on dirt roads.

While I'm being the Costa Rica Tourism Department - its a good bit more expensive than say, Mexico, because the whole country has somewhat higher a standard of living. Public health is generally pretty good - for example, you can generally drink tap water without getting sick. People are relatively well educated, and there is less preying on tourists (although you still want to be aware of your surroundings). Best thing about our trip was how wonderful everyone was with our daughter - obviously families are close and everyone was used to taking care of little siblings/cousins/neighbors. I remember our 20 year old guide on our monkey hike casually holding my daughter's hand to help her on the trail and tossing her in and out of the car just like she was his little sister, and all the hotel staff were really sweet to her as well.

I have read when you use the EIN they will ask you to fax or mail in a copy of the IRS form showing it.

When I used it for the CIP they didn't ask for it because we bank with Chase (much to my dismay) and they already have copies of the EIN and articles of organization on file. But if it's just that I'm happy to send that over to them.

Did you use Ein for CIP? I think all ein apps go through verification. So it is likely that.

Sorry about the CIP points.

I did but I applied in the branch and we bank with them so they said they don't need anything because it's all on file. But that might be because we applied in the branch.

That was one of my biggest surprises with our youngest. The glucose tests I took with our older three were horrible - fasting and multiple blood draws. It’s way simpler now. Thankfully!
Yeah, I used to teach the gestational diabetes classes where I work and I would hear horror stories from the patients. Now it's a 1 hour non-fasted test for everyone as a screening tool, but if you fail that one you get to do the super fun 3 hour fasted test to confirm diagnosis. I'm so thankful I never had to do the 3 hr test.

I was able to use the SW adjustment "method" to save 24,404 RR’s for our outgoing flight in May to MCO! :yay: :yay: I was also able to change our return flight from 6 am to 1:30 pm, which sounds so much more enjoyable! We should be able to enjoy our last full day instead of worrying about getting up at 3 am for the flight home! Maybe we can fit in a nice breakfast at Citywalk that day (we’ll be at UO for the last 3 nights of our trip). Thanks to everyone who posted about this!

Now - opinions needed please! Right now we’re booked on a 6:10 am flight to MCO, arriving in Orlando at 9:50 am. The other direct option we have is a 10:55 am flight, arriving at 2:40 pm. Would you switch to the later flight? My preference is usually to arrive earlier, but my DH hates these early flights, and they’re hard on the kids too. Also, we’ll be flying out of KC (driving up the night before) and staying at my SIL’s house, and she’ll drive us to the airport. We're also imposing on her to get up that early to drop us off at the airport. Another negative is if we rent a car (which we normally do), that’s an additional one day of rental we’ll need (I think) because of the later return flight. The pro for the earlier flight is more time a Disney! Thoughts?
Go later

Will some link me or just tell me anything I need to know about using a CP that might not be obvious already? Are there any blackout dates that a CP won't work? Any problems using it like maybe on international flights? Can you call to switch an already booked and paid for companion ticket to the CP?

There are no blackout dates. Every day and flight are fair game as long as there is a seat.

Yes, DS has been on many free flights to Punta Cana. You just pay the taxes.

Yes, as long as there is a seat (obviously there ”could” be anyhow if you are holding a ticket you are going to cancel. I hope you used points else you will get a travel credit that you don’t need for the CP. If the CP is on his own reservation, it’s easy to add the companion and cancel the flight yourself. If not, contacting SW is best.

i love the CP! We are already have 10 flights booked with DS flying free this year.
