Why would you rope drop for something other than a headliner attraction right now?

Boarding Groups and Virtual Queues don’t increase waits... they just cap demand by ensuring no one has an advantage by arriving SUPER early, and ensuring the ride doesn’t run too far past closing time.

I don’t think they’d get rid of FP+ even with a property wide virtual queue rollout. It’s a valuable tool for planning, whereas virtual queues allow for that flexibility people who hate Fastpass crave.
Well if the top rides, like Soarin and FOP and EE and 7DMT and SDD and...., go to BP style then everyone would want to get a BP and would RD the park to be sure and get their desired rides. No?

Is this that while focus on the negative thing? Lol! In my mind, the ride has performed fairly well on most days. Hopefully tomorrow gets us back on track and we can all think happy thoughts again :D
Indeed. I think the ride’s uptime honestly has probably been in the rough ballpark of RSR in DCA or Test Track in the summer when it has to close for rain almost every single day. Probably not quite there, but probably not terribly far off either.

I did have this sneaking thought today though - what if they sent the best techs out to DLP to make sure day 1 went off without a hitch? My company sends our experts in specific equipment to major new equipment installation regardless of where hey normally work, and our other facilities have to use their B teams if anything goes wrong for a day or two.

From what we know, RotR still isn’t running at full capacity though right? I know we won’t have any confirmed answer, but that’s the word on the street?

If the downtime remained indefinitely like with something like TT, running at full capacity should make it a lot less painful.

I think if VQ came into play at the non ROTR headliners (especially in conjunction with FP), it could potentially operate kind of like the DAS does, allowing people to wait their 120 minutes outside the line instead of in. Or like a modified version of the dumbo queue. Theoretically if those headliner attractions currently allow you to get into a stand by queue all day long, they shouldn’t sell out at rope drop like ROTR does.

I don’t think anything else, even the upcoming new stuff, is going to cause the same kind of frenzy as ROTR.

When is your DHS day? We’ll be there the 29th and then 30th at DAK AH. Maybe we’ll bump into each other ;) I hope it’s working much better by our visit! I know a bunch of us on here are visiting the last week of January. Wondering if they will extend hours for the last week due to these issues... longer hours means better changes to secure a BG and ride!
30th and 31st, first solo trip, also hoping hours are extended! Been on this thread since day 1 (trying so hard to avoid spoilers on rest of DIS). We were there over Christmas for a few days, with a large extended family group. After 2 very long days everyone was burnt out so we called off the final park day, which was DHS. I had planned the whole trip and was obsessed with RotR so my husband suggested I take a couple of days off and come back on my own.

The thought of long waits in a queue if RotR breaks down is much more palatable knowing I can read a book and chat to others without entertaining the kids, so I know I’m lucky in that regard.

Will be taking all of the advice and experiences on this thread and will share here on my days. Thank you everyone for the invaluable tips, and especially rteetz and southfayettefan for The Chart!

Not replacing FP+ for those headliners with BG, but supplementing. If you RD, you can maybe select a BG for 1 headliner, RD something else and have your other FPs. But, as I mentioned before, Bags are NOT necessary for anything else except for FoP. The lines at the other headliners may be long, averaging up to 110 minutes often, but unless your avg queue wait is over 150-180 minutes constantly, then they are not nearly long enough to warrant a move away from Standby/FP. FoP fits this bill. The others don't. I'm not saying Disney won't move this way, but I can easily see this being implemented to help AK, and argue that they *should*.

1. Yes, you need to link the tickets to the friends and family you have listed in MDE. I think the easiest way to do this is by logging into MDE on a laptop. Click on "My Plans" and then scroll down to where it says " _____'s Plans and Tickets." Hover over the park tickets icon and click "Link Tickets." From there, MDE will walk you through the rest of the steps.

Thank you so much for your reply. Super helpful. I'm a bit confused about this though. Your comment regarding the laptop seems to indicate I can do all of this before arriving at the park.
When I go to MDE - My Plans I see my party's FP reservation but nothing else.
When I go to tickets and passes I see the names of everyone in my party with their 1day/1park ticket. If I press the plus icon, there is a section to link tickets- however I have nothing to link at this time. I only have a confirmation email from my purchase with a barcode on it.
So my understanding is that I must take this barcode to ticketing to get our actual hard tickets (the plastic cards) and the number/barcode/QR/whatever will be on that card. Then I'll open the app, use the link tickets function and link each plastic card ticket to each member of my party in the app. Yes?
Or is there an easier way??? (Not purchasing magic bands)
(My apologies if there is a better place to find this answer. New to this board and not a regular at Disney!)

2. I've been reading that the general consensus is that a 6:30 arrival time allows you to safely be inside the park by 7am. With needing to check in at ticketing to get our plastic cards, should we allow extra time and if so any suggestions on how much? Do all members need to be present at the ticketing window to get the plastic cards or just the purchaser?
You may want to verify that the ticket booth will be open. When I was there last week, I do not recall the ticket booths opening prior to 7am. You would then have to wait until 7 to exchange the tickets which means that you will miss your chance at a boarding group. If you can, I would try to get your plastic tickets at Disney Springs the day before.

So I was one of the people that was stuck in line for three hours and when they shut the ride down they gave us the multiple experience fastpass After seeing that they were giving free one day Hollywood tickets for the boarding passes not called (but who were able to ride rides while we were stuck in line) I asked someone at guest services at Magic Kingdom if I would be getting an extra ticket like the other people and he said it would be loaded by tomorrow (wasn’t on a computer so didn’t look anything up). Got back to the hotel to confirm the info and they said that I would be just getting the multiple experience fast pass. Don’t know who is correct. Would anyone on here know? Thanks.

Very good thought on the B team to explain the extended outage today at HS --- because all the experienced techs were at DLR for the opening. Makes sense.

I’m confused about what we’re even talking about now 🤣 I think I need to stop skimming posts.

Yeah, we bordered on off-topic while discussing recovery from uncalled BG and the future expansion of BG. Questionable relevancy. I'm a culprit. I accept my punishment of being slowly digested over...a thousand years.

Who did you talk to at the resort? My first reaction (which could be incorrect) is that anyone at the resort is not going to know/have the same info about your situation than Guest Relations at a park.

If 43 days in we’re dependent on some sort of “A” or “B” team for the success of the ride’s functionality, we’re all in trouble. Surely that’s not the operating environment that we’re in, at least I hope.

Although 43 days in it kind of feels like we’ve made no major headway in terms of operation and consistency. Is that just my negative mood today lol?

Seems like every day is still a mixed bag. Are we going to get an awesome day, or do we get a late start with obscene amounts of bananas and chips given out in line? The true lottery.

Unless you have mobile app experience, I wouldn’t be so sure. Here are some of the issues off the top of my head:
  • Location services are off
  • Location services aren’t granted to the app
  • Location services are disabled via MDM
  • Devices without GPS
  • Accurate location can take several minutes to achieve, especially if the user has turned off WiFi
  • Jail broken or rooted devices could easily bypass
I only respond to this because I continue to see folks questioning whether folks can get BG’s from outside the park. Every experiment has shown you can and there is no reason to believe they would ever change it.
That's assuming you're using GPS, which Disney is not. They are using the fact that you've tapped into DHS. And if you tap into another park, then they know you are there and not in DHS. It's pretty straight-forward.

Sayhello

Did you ride?

I went to they concierge and they made a couple of calls and got that answer.

Hmm, not sure what to tell you. I’d keep checking your MDE to see if it shows up. I would tend to trust what Guest Relations told you in the park, but hard to say.

No, we did not ride. We had park hoppers and because how much the ride was closed up and through our boarding pass was called (group 30) we went to Magic Kingdom (which had their own ride issues). I did ask when we got our recovery pass if we could use it tomorrow when we were planing on coming back and they said we could.
