Reflections from my house, practicing for this weekend. . .
I had the app open before seven and toggled between the two screens that say “Find out more” and the status/boarding group page at the second it turned 7am. If did not light up red for “Join Group” until exactly 7:01, and stated already in backup groups!
I was also practicing from home and had the app open at 6:59, but didn't click "find out more" until 7 plus a couple seconds. It was red right away and I'm nearly positive it was still on regular bg at that time.

Mine didn’t turn red after 2 click in and out so I hit my status and was able to join through there.

Yeah, I am just trying to decide if better to open the app right at seven and see if that is better luck than toggling or just open a few seconds before as some have suggested. . .
Thanks for the tips above! Might try pushing the status button as well.

6:32 Left Holiday Inn DS via Lyft (so not morning people and took longer to get a driver today)
6:44 through toll plaza
6:58 through tapstyle (way more drop offs today vs yesterday)

BG 89

DH had hard time getting through bagcheck. He didn't get in until 7:11, got him BG 121. Trying to get him moved to our group now.

Gave up. GET is roped off with very slow line. We have FPs and DVC event tonight so prob won't be here when our group is called.

FYI, there is another GET down by RnRC with much shorter line.

Suggestion for bag check:

If you arrive close to opening and you have another person with you, have that person go through the no bag line and scan in while you wait with the bags, then they immediately leave and find you, then they wait with the bags while you go through no bag and scan in, then do the BG process from outside security.

That is a great idea, wish I had thought of that. Additional bag checks were opened at 7, would have been nice to have those sooner, but maybe Disney wasn't prepared for the crowds. Drop off was so much busier today.

I could see DHS trying early EMHs again.
The one time they did it, I think part of the confusion was because they announced BGs would be available at official park open, instead of as people tapped in (which is how they were doing it in the early days), but then made them available 20 minutes or so before the official time with regular boarding groups running out before regular park open.
Now that the expectation of BGs available exactly at park open is better understood and with Disneyland having done Magic Morning with Ride of the Resistance not available during it, I think the pieces are there for them to try EMH in the morning at DHS (assuming RotR would continue to not be available during EMH). For example, they could hold off site guests for a couple of minutes in the holding area after open, to allow off site guests to try for BG and then let them go.
Will be interested to see if they'll move the April EMH or not.
Lol. I’m imagining the scene at ride boarding at official park opening. No one will want to board a ride until they secure their boarding group.

That is brilliant! 💡

So, is it safe to say that there is a real possibility that I have shelled out thousands of dollars for a WDW vacation coming up in the coming months, and we will not be able to experience the ride that is the whole reason we decided to book? Is it still going to be this insane in the coming months?

I see lots of people commenting they take lyft to the park, is this necessary? or are busing running early enough to get us there and in before park open?
Staying at pop century, arrive on Thursday :)
thanks!
We were at pop, buses are running, but few and far between, many people were doing rideshare and this morning at least there was no bus schedule showing on the app so no way to know when one is coming. So many people ride-sharing this AN that the drop off line at the park was a crawl, that was our biggest delay.

Great idea for bag checkers!

Just be aware. I remember reading (or maybe hearing on a podcast) somewhere that if a guest enters a park twice within a very short period of time it can trigger some sort of security alert at the park entry touchpoint the second time.

I'm at OKW today.
Next bus time was not on the app or at the nearest bus stop (at 5:36am).
As Lyft was about to arrive (5:50am), I see the Studios bus. Could have hopped on bus but I didn't want to cancel the Lyft.
If you want to rope drop, I suggest a Lyft & getting to park 75 minutes before opening. 60-50 minutes ahead of opening this morning saw a ton of people arrive. If just looking for BG, sleep an extra 30-45 minutes.

That’s at Disneyland and it’s if you enter one park then immediately turn around and go to the other park. If there are no lines it can be done in under 2 minutes.

It also happens at DW. I now remember that it was a podcast I was listening to in which the host described it happening to him at International Gateway.
