Snowmageddon Day 5 update

Doing OK. Still working from home. Still just the one cut down my street but I'm OK with that for now. Really not looking forward to the plow coming to widen the road since the snow is 5 days old now and frozen chunks. Won't be easy to dig out again.
City is lifting state of emergency today from 10am-6pm and allowing grocery stores to open during that time so people can get essentials. DW is gone out to see if we can get milk and bread. But we can manage without it if we have to. I've heard there are already line ups of 400-500 people at the stores. The issue is that the only stock available is whatever was already in the stores before the storm. No trucks have been on the roads to deliver new supplies. Not sure when things will get back to normal.
Other shops, offices, restaurants, fast food, are all still ordered closed, no public transport or airport, schools/university closed at least until tomorrow.
Military arrived Sunday night, mostly helping dig out seniors and disabled persons who have literally been stuck inside their homes since last Friday.
I have never seen this in my lifetime and I hope I never see it again.

Sounds like you guys are dealing with it well. I would hate to be your wife out in those lines. Hopefully they will be limiting what people can purchase.

Well on the third night the city said “let there be street” and just before midnight one forced a single cut down my street. The snow wall at the end of our driveway was about 5 feet high but others were worse.

That's crazy. I remember several years ago we had two blizzards in one week, ended up getting about a foot of snow from each one. The second time I had to dig out the end of the driveway, I was about halfway done and a guy drove up in a little caterpillar tractor and said he'd finish the rest for $5. Best 5 bucks I ever spent.

We've run out of milk and bread but can manage fine.

But...how will you have french toast?

That wall of snow is mind-boggling!

Is it morning yet?

Yes. Congratulations, you made it!

Top O the Mornin Dads! Good to see that Jeff is getting through the snow storm of forever as good as can be expected. Not much here other than way too cold for the south so guys up north shut the dang door. Work is really a mess with leadership, won't get into the details as there are too many but just feel like we are going in the wrong direction on so many things. Been here 20 years and never been like this.
I was off today...
I'm sure you deserve and have earned retirement my friend, but you're gonna go there on us?

Have a good one gents

For those of you who are interested in the Oak Island tour, what dates look good for everyone? It doesn't look like you can do back to back tours for both of them, so I think we should settle on doing just one tour.

I wouldn’t be able to narrow it down much yet. But if I do go to Nova Scotia this summer it will most likely be the second half of July or first half of August.

Sounds like you guys are dealing with it well. I would hate to be your wife out in those lines. Hopefully they will be limiting what people can purchase.

She got milk, eggs and a few other things , but couldn’t get bread. She was in the line about an hour. Something else I’ve never seen
Not sure there was any limit but people seemed to be reasonable she said.

That wall of snow is mind-boggling!
It is for the middle of January
To be fair, we usually have banks that high by the end of the winter, but it happened so fast with this storm, the city just couldn’t cope.

I am good then. Not really sure if we can make this work, but I thought I would try. Maybe plan for a 2021 trip for better planning for all Dads who want to go.

Yes but it is cold here, -25 plus windchill. I'm sure it will be beach weather in Winnipeg though.
Actually, after being cold, it's freakishly warming up over the next few days. We're supposed to be up around the freezing mark!
Never seen it get so warm for so long in January.

Man, I really don't envy you one bit. Makes for a great story, but... you gotta go through it first.

Hey Guys, anyone been to HS recently and ridden Rise of the Resistance? How do the boarding groups work?
  1. You need to have the MDE APP
  2. Need to be in the Park before scheduled opening. Need to be scanned in with MB or card so the system knows you are in the park
  3. Any one else in your party also has to be in the park before scheduled open. They also have to be linked to your MDE account
  4. Get to park at lease 30 - 60 minutes before open time to make sure you are in
  5. Stand around inside park queing up for wither TSL, or Star Wars.
  6. Prior to park open makes sure you turn of wifi on our phone and just run through data and have the MDE APP open and ready to go
  7. At official park open time select the "find out more" button on the APP tied to Rise of the Resistance then select "Join Boarding Group"
  8. At this point it works like FP+ to select friends and family tied to your MDE account
  9. Get a random boarding group number. The App will update what groups are currently boarding and will send you an alert when your boarding group becomes available
  10. You have a 2 hour window to show up at the attraction once your boarding group is called.

... and the ride is So worth it...

Evening chaps, back in the mother country from the mother ship. I've got to go back out there in 2 weeks, so that's a pain in the proverbial. I've also got to hit Prague and Kladno in the next month. Still, beats working for a living.

Jeff look after yourself up there mate, hopefully you got some supplies and Darcy maybe a light sweater would be in order....

Hey, Dads! Late post for me, but had the morning off for my interview. Interview went well enough, though it's tough to gauge how I did from the reactions from the two who were interviewing me. Still haven't heard anything from the court, and hope to hear soon because I'd rather work for them. Anyways, good day over all.

Edited to Add:

Just got an email from the court: They chose someone else. Figures. I knew I had too much experience for them. I may have to go back to work in Boston, something I'm not wanting to do (that would be a 2 hour commute one way), but at this point I may have no choice. I'm going to go home and get drunk tonight.

I forget what year it was, but back in early 2000's there was a January that was in the negative digits for most of the month, man it was brutal, so i feel your pain. I remember when it finally hit 30 degrees people were out in shorts and short sleeves...including me.

How'd the store run go? Hope you guys were able to get something.

I did that one year. We had blizzard after blizzard, and I ran out of places to put snow. Well, this guy was driving down the street in a front end loader. I asked if he'd shove the snow piles back for me so I'd have a place to put the snow. Gave him $10 to do it. Like you said, best $10 I spent.

Evening chaps, back in the mother country from the mother ship. I've got to go back out there in 2 weeks, so that's a pain in the proverbial. I've also got to hit Prague and Kladno in the next month. Still, beats working for a living.

Always wanted to visit Prague.

in case anyone has any doubts about how bad it is over in the Northeast for Jeff...

Blizzard update
WOW, welcome to Hoth! The guy that built a beer fridge is a genius 8-)
:mic: is this thing on??? Hello???
Hello Scott, took you long enough to come back :rotfl2:

For you newer guys Scott is one of the originals and along with Randall the only two Dads to attend all 8 DDCCs

I've also got to hit Prague and Kladno in the next month.
Nice. Want to visit Prague some day. Hadn't heard of Kladno before.
I've come close (Munich, Nuremburg, Dresden), but not quite.
and Darcy maybe a light sweater would be in order....

Well... crap. Hopefully things will turn around for you.
Yeah - like Randall, I've been around the block a few times. :rotfl2:
Do you use one of those walkers with the tennis balls, too?

Happy Tuesday. More load management, tennis, some office time, and watching Australian open. If you have espn+, check out the Halep vs Brady match. Even hotter than the super in shape scantily clad tennis players is the chair referee. She's gorgeous.

Unbelievable Jeff. Stay safe and hoping the army will help folks dig out as the plows can just dump more feet of snow on folks driveways and say all done

Guess I did - had no idea

Guess that was me

Don't remember but guess I did - must have been too much bourbon one night

And getting photo bombed by a very unhappy couple?

That must have been a lot of bourbon. Sad that you didn't invite me.

Peaceful Monday at work for now. Officially it is a holiday so I am the only one here. A little ELP Tarkus cranked up, sorting files and getting ready for the rest of the week. If anyone else shows up, I'll just go home.

From the anti-soci introvert? The older I get, the less people I want to be around.

I LOVE going to work when no one is there, or at the least, very few people are there. I get more done when no one is in the office. Plus, I can listen to my music a little louder and not worry about bothering the person next to me.

Yes, I can usually get a lot of work done before all the distractions from visitors and emails from my 10 bosses.

Afternoon chaps from an hour further to the future, in the mothership in Denmark. So now I can get the UK lottery numbers as well as the US ones.

Mine completely severed whilst playing tennis against the instructors. It's generally OK, but I will always have a weakness there. The good thing was it was surgically reattached, so the risk of re-rupture is smaller, but still there. It's kinda weird the Physio has cleared me for marathons, but still isn't totally cool with me playing tennis, as its more about dynamic pressure than regular punishment.

Did you jump in front of the people behind you? They look like they've got the right hump.

As ever Chief, you're piercing logic cuts through all the chaff. So Mikey, how hammered were ya?

Have a great day chaps

If you play tennis at my level, you'll never worry about re-injuring that Achilles. I don't run for nothing. If I bother to take two steps, I'm going for the winner. It's a terribly poor strategy, but that's all I got.

How many of you have a holiday today?

I have a partial holiday most days. It's called load management.

Snowmageddon Day 4 update - De plow boss! De plow!

Well on the third night the city said “let there be street” and just before midnight one forced a single cut down my street. The snow wall at the end of our driveway was about 5 feet high but others were worse.

Got out this morning and cleaned up as much as we could. Pictures don’t really do it justice but I’ll share a few.

I’m able to keep working from home , which is ok. State of emergency still in effect. Schools, university, shops, airport, all closed except pharmacies and gas stations for emergency.
We've run out of milk and bread but can manage fine. Thankfully I got a new bottle of rum before the storm so I’ll be ok another couple days. Between work and shoveling there’s not much time for drinks anyway.

Have a good one gents

If you're plan is to retire at Disney, you'll need a bazillion dollars.

And this is where Disney continues to disappoint me. I want to be in the parks without depending on my phone. Sure, I take pictures, but that's it. The paper FP at least were a reward from putting in the effort to walk around the theme park. Now, you have to experience Disney thru the cell phone. Ugh! Get off my lawn. :furious:
