I've been loosely keeping track of the #tests that CDC has run for the novel corona virus, just by checking their website which is updated daily, based on the numbers reported by 4PM the prior day.

On 2/26 the website showed 445 tests run (by 4pm 2/25). Total. In the entire USA, with a population of 330 million.
On 2/27 it was up to 458 tests. So they tested 13 people in the following 24 hour period.
I missed yesterday's number.
As of today (reporting 2/29/20 numbers) it's up to 472 tests run.

Less than 30 tests run in 3 days. How could we possibly have an accurate number of cases in the US? You can't find what you're not looking for.
S. Korea had run over 66,600 tests by 2/26 and is testing around 10K daily.

Right, this is what boggles my mind. The individual who died in Washington State became ill with respiratory symptoms 3 weeks ago. With a 5-10 day incubation period, this virus may have been circulating in Washington State for a month. There has been next to zero testing in this country. We've had a lot of hospitalizations for influenza in Iowa, but we've had our share of respiratory hospitalizations with unidentified pathogen. I have no way of knowing if those could have been covid-19.

Huh that is weird. Dh got his Venture this past week and it was metal. I got mine last January and mine is also metal.

Note for the ladies, and any of the guys that get one, read what scent your picking for the extras at a pedicure. Mine has mint or menthol and it's made everything much hotter. Though I also don't think it helps when they do half the massage with the exfoliating salt. But my legs and feet are happier.

I found a scientist, Trevor Bedford, on Twitter last night. He studies viruses at Fred Hutchinson in Seattle. They've been gathering flu genome data in the Seattle area for some time now, and he posted yesterday that the COVID-19 isolated from the man who died in WA state yesterday is extremely closely related to the first case of COVID-19 in WA state sampled 1/19/20. I wish I understood how to read the phylogenetic chart on the gisaid.org website well, but the implication is that if those are the same COVID-19 strain then there may have been ongoing transmission in WA state for the past 6 weeks. It's entirely possible that the incubation period of this novel virus is not actually known, the 14 day period being used is based on other coronaviruses. That's an understandable assumption but not necessarily accurate.

I am sure there are many locations. We just keep hearing about us and TX as they keep brining in those massive jets direct from China. Our small airport does not see those size jets very often. I think AF1 is the largest it sees.

That's really bizarre. I just got DH one and it's also metal. You're sure it's the Venture and not the Venture One? I think that's plastic.

Wow, I got sooo far behind! February was quite a month! Started with our trip to WDW on Feb 1st, which was fun, but also a little sad. We hadn't been since 2012, and things have changed! The good/bad news was that DW can't ride 90% of the rides anymore due to a brain injury, so we didn't have to worry about FP or BG. We had never needed FP during any of our other 6 trips, so it was crazy to us to see the demand. It was also much busier than I expected in Feb, which was kind of annoying. But, celebrating our 25th at AKL-Jambo was awesome! That was the best part and worth the trip without rides

Unfortunately, I managed to bring home an extra souvenir - got sick Thursday night - so Friday was rough and Saturday flying home was awful. True to character, I tried to tough it out with work and ended up with bronchitis that royally kicked my behind. I spend the majority of Feb at home in bed or working

Good news - my CSP came right before the trip so it got to go along. Met the MSR a few days ago, so my first churning win! So excited to see this in my account yesterday:


I've also received 2 of the 3 bank bonuses I'm working on, (#4 won't post until April) and plan to open a couple more accounts in the coming months. DW now has her own United MPE that we're working on, and we'll go for the CSP for her sometime this summer.

This is exciting, and I'm so glad I found this thread. I've read the reddit churning threads a bunch, but this one is so much more fun!

Wrapping up last minute stuff for my trip next week. Called the hotel where I am using my IHG free cert for one night and points for second night Got them to link so we won’t have to move rooms.

Then booked boat tours in Glacier for our July trip. Working on DH’s BBP MSR And wanted to use that. Unfortunately they don’t take Amex

I spent most of the morning looking at flights to Hawaii and plane configurations! I am worrying myself too much on that trip. I am having a hard time actually booking. But I finally decided on my date ranges. I should be booking outbound tomorrow when they are released. once flights are se, I can move on to hotels.

What are the expected temperatures in Death Valley? Still as high as they were forecasting last week?

When in July are you going to Glacier? I have that park mentally pencilled-in for next summer. I also want to rebook a North Rim/Bryce/Zion trip that we cancelled in favor of Rome, though I'm thinking late September or early October of next year for that.

Sorry you got sick! We always get sick traveling. I blame it on my 6yo who acts like we are trying to torture him when we want him to wash hands and also has a fondness for picking him nose . I swear I try, but he is so gross!!!

Well I'd rather people think I was pregnant than fat lol. That's what I'm worried about. I think sometimes I just look like I eat too much. I've gained like 21+ pounds so it's not like I'm not gaining weight.

In your case this probably isn't a problem unless you expect your 17 yo to go on a app-o-rama when she turns 18

Mine did exactly that and it worked out beautifully! I'd like to repeat with dd17 when she turns 18yo. Which is why I am closely watching what I add her on as an AU'er to. I got the Bonvoy offer but won't be adding her.
