DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Top O the Mornin Dads! Nice to see a little discussion tied to DaWorld to take our minds off of all that is going on these days for at least a few minutes. Thanks to Scott and Darcy for making us all smile or laugh. With that said and since there isn't anything new around here of interest, what is everyone's top 3 Disney resorts in order. Feel free to explain your reasons so that those of us that disagree will have some basis to give you a hard time 8-)

For the record, my RD is AK as I like to get in safari first thing, work FP for the main attractions and this provides the ability to rope drop Dawa Bar. Night park would be MK with the evening fireworks and Main Street lit at night is a great way to end the day.

DUDE - you're killing me with this MK at night stuff....didn't you hear when I said that Darcy was wrong.....you are wrong Sir! 🙄 8-)

Top 3 Resorts

1. Poly.....because it's the freakin' Poly! Dole Whips, Lapu Lapu's, 'Ohana.....oh my! Not to mention an awesome aesthetic and overall atmosphere, great Pool, and huge rooms.

2. Bay Lake Tower - love that it's a smaller resort....able to walk to MK (hugely helpful after night time fireworks (but who goes to MK at night?!?!)), our home DVC resort so we love it.

3. AKL - AKL/Kidani - Amazingly themed resort. Boma! Sanaa! Zebra Domes! Oh and it's got a freakin' Savannah!

Can't believe you didn't say Trader Sam's at Poly. You're slipping in your old age.

Personally, as someone who rarely drinks, your argument for being anti-MK at night is moot for me. :lmao:

I do have to admit...your comment about BLT is something I hadn't thought about...for a short walk to the room after a day at the parks, it is nice.

Afternoon chaps from a sunny and warm Mother country.

I am like Dan, I spell words properly unlike you southerners. ;)
What he said
Wait a minute. Are we Yanks or Southerners? You can't use them interchangeably. D_mn yankees!
And this, my friends, is how the British ran an empire that took about 30% of the planet. Rock up, get the locals arguing with each other and quietly pillage. Ah, it's nice to exercise the old colonial muscles now and then :cool2:. Now that's over, back to being an old has-been.

everyone's top 3 Disney resorts in order
Me and Scott should clearly vacation together.

1. Poly. This is where we bought on DVC. 3 Great restaurants (and arguably the best QS on property), 2 great pool bars, Trader Sam's, the TS Terrace, and the pool is pretty good. Oh yeah. And Pineapple Lanai. With Rum. MK Fireworks from the pool, the beach, or your balcony. Concierge Level is really good, personal service, and they have free Kona Beers from 11. Biggest studios in the inventory. And the hope that one day you will get upgraded into the Bungalows (I know, its never gonna happen, but it just might....)

2. AKL. Amazing theming, again 2 great restaurants, the Bar lets it down a bit. Amazing Lobby, with a nod to Doc that WL or possibly the GF lobby are the best. And apparently there's a petting zoo there or something, I don't know, something to do with animals. To be fair, its tough to beat sitting on your balcony drinking an espresso looking at Zebras. and eating Zebra domes.

3. Treehouse Villas at Saratoga. A proper retreat. Boat with a private dock to and from Disney Springs. Probably one of the most secluded parts of WDW, a real chance to decompress after the parks.

I do enjoy Trader Sam's - however Rum isn't my go to liquor. Walter at the Tambuu makes a mean Kentucky Mule though!

Poly Studios - gotta love having nearly two full bathrooms!

AKL - that's pretty wicked Dan - eating Zebra Domes while watching Zebras.......I like it!

I knew there was a reason, even though he does wear those funny hats and cheer for Notre Dame.

So I'll jump into the resort discussion. Based on resorts where we have stayed:

  1. POFQ - great moderate resort. Love the theming, it's relatively quiet, transportation options are decent and you have access to Riverside if you so wish.
  2. Pop Century - this has been out go to resort. Love the way it looks, great location, good food court and access to the food court at Art of Animation. Both are also great to stroll around.
  3. Poly - only Deluxe we've stayed at and we got upgraded to Club level. Good restaurants and great location to get to the best night time park - MK.

So let me get this straight. You rank Poly and BLT as your top two resorts yet MK is not a favorite night park? #VDF?! So from my and Darcy's thinking it's MK at night as your "short walk" back to BLT brings you to TOTWL for evening beverages or over to the Poly on the Monorail for a night cap. Evening at MK also provides the opportunity to enjoy a nightcap at resorts like AKL and BWV where you otherwise are less likely to enjoy these great bars if consuming all day at EPCOT or Studios.

Two Words..........Tipsy flippin' Ducks (in love) - ok that's more than two words....but you get my drift.......

Two more words.........Rose and Freakin' Crown......ok I'm bad at counting.....

EPCOT for the win......just sayin. 8-)

To slightly defend my new bezzie mate, its as easy to get home to the Poly from Epcot as it is to get back from MK. Monorail, walk through the TTC past Bora Bora, and there you have it. Nightcaps aplenty after a cheeky day drinking. It's a marathon Mikey, not a sprint my friend ;)

Haven't stayed at many and Port Orleans became our go to. All Star Music and All Star Movies are equivalent in my mind. Hated my first first trip and barely tolerated the second though we brought home a souvenir that was good, by the third it was improving slightly but think I was still posting as notafan then. (If I get really bored I will have to go back and see when I changed my user name.) All Star were a little less busy than POP Century, but the Food Court was better at POP Century so those three are a wash.

Edited...Looking at my list I don't see All Star Movie in there. I would have swore we stayed there. Maybe I am missing one or maybe we just wandered around there at one point. As I've said those first few trips were miserable and it all blurs together.

As I said on the call the other week, I've never set foot in PO, which I think is now the only resort I haven't (if you lump all of the All Stars together). Me and Lady K said we would go and have Beignets there next time we are all out.

So I'm at EPCOT for a nice early dinner, hit my 2nd favorite watering hole at DaWorld in Rose & Crown for a bit after dinner and hop on the monorail to MK. Once at MK grab something from the candy shop on Main Street or get a Dole Whip before watching HEA and seeing Tink fly across the night. Take in the ambiance of Main Street lights while letting the crowd thin out. Then pop over to TOTWL for a night cap and view of MK all lit up at night. BOOM! Mike drop! Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner 8-)

Yeah - bezzie mate.......a cheeky day drinking......nightcaps a plenty! That's what I'm talking about! When you have a choice - always be like Dan!

That's a day drink.

Um no Darcy. What am I going to do with you ????

EPCOT

That is all.

:rotfl2:

Well - if you were to invite me a long on this schedule of events - I guess I wouldn't say no. I do enjoy a chicken dinner. 8-)

Jumping in late on the resort rankings.

1. AKL - tied with Wilderness Lodge for most spectacular theme. The animals outside give it the extra push over the top.

2. WL - Amazing theme. This and AKL do the best job of transporting me away from the real world.

3. Poly - another more exotic theme. Location is awesome, too. And Dole Whips.

Of the moderates, I really liked POR the best.

How about starting at Kona for some cheeky breakfast, swanning over to EPCOT, at lets say 11 ish to hit either Test Track or Soarin and then start your tour of the World Showcase in Mexico. A cheeky couple in Cava, Beer in Norway with a ride on Malestrom, Tipsy ducks in China, a Beer in Germany (with a cheeky Bratwurst placeholder, just to keep you ticking over), a nice glass of Red in Tutto Gusto, A beer out of the kiosk on the right on the American Adventure, maybe a little nap in there whilst the show goes on. Sake in Japan, possibly a Tokyo Sunset. It should be now about 5ish, so the Mixed Schwarma Pate from Morocco (there's your Chicken Dinner Winner), then a Grey Goose Slushie from France, Ice Cream at Beaches and Cream as you dip out of the International Gateway, back in for a Guinness or an Innis and Gun, a La Fin du Monde at Canada. Should be about 9, so Illuminations, and then back to the Poly for a Rosita Margarita to bring you literally in a full circle back to Tequila. Maybe with some pulled pork tacos. And a dole whip out of Lanai.
